Be careful, he may have an '05 Beta for $1500.00 again!!!

I'm 42 myself Charlie. I've been married 22 years and I can't even remember what it was like to spend all my money on me so the PVC fork guards sound good. Hey, you can sit in the garage and mess around or sit in the house and play nintendo(?). Everything I like to do is in the garage. Can't make any sence out of the nintendo. My turn was always up in 30 seconds anyway. Put a picture up when you finish them.

Mabey some camo duct tape so you won't spook all those deer up there in PA.

With a four stroke, I would think that as long as the engine is turning over then oil is being pumped so how would you burn a piston?
-
Don't forget to check the plug. It will tell you whether it is running rich/lean. I always like to start any adjustments with a good plug in the bike. I also have a TL125 that was having similar problems and it was crud in the fuel petcock bowl which was slowing the fuel delivery. The bike was starving for fuel. It would idle nice but when greater demand for fuel was required it bluber because it was using fuel faster than it was being supplied. Cleaned the bowl good and solved the problem. May want to clean the tank out and change or add fuel filter if you don't have one. Just another possibility.

Clark, Did Ron @ Beta have any idea why there was such corrosion? I don't even have a clue as to why it would get that bad.

Just what you need Brian, another trials bike with a power band.

Came across this today. Thought some of you Fantic fans might find something you have been searching for.

FYI.....I didn't use the socket for a seal driver, it was a peice of 1 1/2" PVC pipe. Just keep it straight and tap it in until the seal clears the slots for the circlip.
-
The TL dust deals were just pressed on and once I got a small flat screwdriver blade between the seal and the fork I just twisted it and the cover started to come off. It was on there tighter than I expected but a few gentle taps on the screw driver with a hammer should wedge the tip in there. My friend has a Aprilia with USD forks and we changed out his seals the same way. The only other thing I can think of is that the dust seals on one of our z50's screw on. May check that as well.

Just replaced seals in an old TL125 a few months ago and it was basically the same process. I had to apply heat with a propane torch to get the seals out. They have a steel cup made on them that presses in. I heated the outside of the forks lightly and they came right out. Used a small pry bar to get them out being careful no the scratch or bend anything. Used a big socket that was the same diameter as the seal and tapped the new seals in. No leaks and it took about 45 min. to strip, clean, put in seals, fork oil and go for a ride.

What ever happened to Freddie Crosset? I remember him winning two US National Championships back to back and I haven't heard his name mentioned since. He was a great rider and I enjoyed watching him ride at the US Nationals in Sequatchie. I was looking through some older Trials Competition Magazines last night and saw him winning everywhere back in '01 and '02. Where is he now?

I just did the same thing on my '01 because of some cracks in the intake manifold. Mine didn't have the "special o-ring" either so I ordered it along with the manifold. When I got it it was a large diameter material and there is no grove for it to fit in. It seemed to make the fit rather poor so I just tossed it in the tool box and put everything back together. I can't tell you what it is supposed to do but I can tell you that my bike runs perfectly without it. I sprayed the propane torch ( not lit of course ) around the manifold with the bike running and didn't have any leaks so I'm not worrying about it.

I have been running the Mobile 1 in my bikes for a while and am pleased with how the clutches operate. I do run regular gear box oil in my '74 TY250 and the '73 TL125 though. Is there a real need to run the fully synthetic ATF in the modern bikes? Will I get the same results using regular ATF Dextron III? I change it alot anyway.

Well I got the bike so thanks for the input. What a sweet bike. I went through it and replaced a few parts like a bent foot peg bracket, fork seals, air filter, ect. Nothing major but I want to start off right . Been riding it for about a week now and I am so pleased with the way it runs and handles. You Beta guys were on to something along time ago!! The clutch works perfect and I expected it to drag some but this one doesn't drag at all even when first started. I was going to work on the suspension setup this weekend and basically just set the sag/preload and play with the dampening adjustment some to see what the different ends of adjustment feel like. Question about the rear shock. I noticed it has a knob on the front of the shock at the top and another adjustment screw at the rear of the shock at the bottom. What do those two do? I assume they are compression and rebound so if they are which is which and if not what are they for? The suspension is great now but I just want to see if it can't be better. I won't know if I don't try. My '98 Gas Gas had some adjustment but I never could tell much difference on the front and rear seemed to slow down too much with any increase in dampening. Looks like the Beta has a greater range of adjustment. Thanks for the help.

The sad thing is that some people fall for this. It happens with boats too. A local man here was selling his boat. They sent him a $10000.00 "Cashiers Check" and had him wire the "shipping charges" which were included in the check from his account to them. Needless to say the " Cashiers Check" didn't clear the bank and he had already wired off the $4000.00 shipping charges to these scamers! The FBI traced everything to someplace in Africa where nothing could be done about it. He still has the boat but is only taking cash offers now.

Nice spot Dan! I bet those kids are still talking about that. I have done some demos and shows not related to trials so I know how much effort it takes to pull one off. It's alot more than just showing up with a bike and riding around some. Great job, you really work at getting others exposed to trials. I really like the way Ray rides over the three barels like I ride over the curb!! Rewound that a few times and still don't get it. Nice job.

Thanks for letting us know Dan. Sure has been alot of trials on the tube recently and I got it all taped so far.

I got the 2001 Beta and am in the process of going through it and one thing I am working on is cleaning the exhaust system. I have the silencer cleaned and ready to repack but my question is about the mid muffler. What is the best way to clean it? I am assuming that it has packing in it also so I am not sure if I can run a solvent through it. I have it off and proped by the shed now letting the oil run out of it. I was thinking of dowsing it in degreaser and blasting it out at the car wash with high pressure hose. What is the best way to go about it?
-
Well Ron, you can mark down the STRA with another '01 Beta. Mine is on the way.

That's the bike. Sending the money today and waiting on Forward Air. Danny said it was in good shape and I take him at his word. I hate buying something like a bike from pictures but you got to trust in people sometimes. Everybody ain't trying to rip you off. It's just good to have a little confirmation of what you were told. I've never had a Beta before but I have never ridden one I didn't like so I am looking forward to getting it. My son will be glad for me to stay off his Montesa too. Thanks and I am sure I will be back with a few questions after I get it and set it up.
-
Yea, I have been to the TTC alot and bought a '98 Gas Gas from them a few years back. I sold that bike over the winter and have been looking for a newer bike and they just haven't had a bike I was interested in or could afford. In fact, the bike I am looking at is out TX way at MotoMex. I like to do business with the TTC but looks like I am getting this bike from Danny.
-
It's me Ron. This bike is out of town so I am tring to get some info on them. I getting it from a reliable dealer. He is going over it this weekend to let me know about brakes, bearings, ect. I know you like yours and so does everyone else that has a Beta it seems. I just like the build quality on them and the way the ones I have ridden handled but I haven't been on a Rev model before, just the late model Technos. Just wondered if there was anything particular to look at on them so I know what to expect and what questions to ask before sending money.
-
Thanks for the help with info on the 2000 model pro and cons. Decided to pass on it because I just don't like USD forks. I have found an '01 250 and wondered if anyone could tell me an characteristics or things to look for on this bike. Help me one more time and I'll quit bothering you. Any tips appreciated because I'm going to buy this one unless there is a problem I don't know about with this model. Thanks for any help, there are just no trials ridrs where I live so there is nobody to ask.

Wow Bigfoot, those things make me dizzy!!!
