  1. Got a free online owner's manual with the bike but had to pay for an online repair/service manual which, frankly, has very little useful info in it. But, GasGas is KTM now ...
  2. An interesting side note in all of this - several online sources state the torque specs for the 300 head bolt is 18 ft/lbs. I just bought the Gas Gas service manual - it states the spec to be 11.1 ft/lbs. Second lesson in all of this - even multiple sources on the web do not ensure accuracy. Dang, this is a maddening lesson. 😡
  3. Thanks for the pointers. I've got lots of years with a torque wrench, but what I had prior to this mess were too big for the job. I ordered a 'highly rated' 1/4" drive wrench off of Amazon ... and it didn't work. Shame on me for not testing it first on something less critical.
  4. Thanks for the pointer to the TIme Sert. These are new to me and, dang, they're expensive (but cheaper than a new cylinder). As for the OEM vs third, I found a couple options out of Europe ... but learned they're for the years up to 2022 ... and no longer available. Do you have any insights into how much room there is for an insert? It looks like the space between the thread well and the cooling tunnels is quite thin.
  5. The short story - the threads for two cylinder head bolts are stripped in the cylinder barrel. The bitter story - DO NOT buy torque wrenches from Amazon. My question to this esteemed body - should I replace the cylinder or try helicoil or some such repair? If it is to replace, OEM or third-party?
  6. @faussy - I was hoping to see the obstacles you're building but the links both return a 404. Did you take the images down?
  7. After 43 years of no trials bike, I did it - I bought a new-to-me '23 GasGas 300 TXT. In my earlier days I had a Yamaha TY250 then a couple of Sherpa T's (250 and 350). I was never very good but, heck, there's no better way to clear your head and sharpen your focus than riding a trials bike, right? Now, given my advancing years and the numerous replaced or wobbly joints, I've retired my motocross and enduro kit and taken up ADV riding (Africa Twin). It's great fun, but I really needed a heavier 'dirt fix'. Hence, the Gasser. I live in Southeast Texas outside of Houston, which can make a billiard table seem bumpy, so I'll be building my own sections to refresh my skills. My hope in joining this community is to look and listen twice as much as I speak (which is a really hard thing for an old Texas boy). That said, I'd love to glean some ideas for building sections, developing/improving technique, and finding likeminded riders in or around the Houston area. Here's the Gasser - first day on the farm! So new, she still has whiskers on the tires!
