Certainly goes to prove Petes stance is correct. How many other clubs who have organised and run road trials so far this year, never mind the ones that intend to, will have complied or as above have decided to run and be dammed ? Very interesting and thought provoking post totalshell.

Will try that thanks. Have a nice holiday.

If i cant find EBC or Newfren reference numbers then as a worse case scenarion i will have to get the old ones relined. However i would probably also have to get the alloy castings machined and refurbished also as the metal surface that bears on the brake actuating pivot is worn also which is why i was looking to buy some new ones and i was then going to perhaps get them relined with a better i.e. softer material and machined to the exact drum diamension. Done this on the James and transforms the braking but the James is easy the hubs use Tiger Cub shoes which are plentiful. As i said these are hard to identify apparently so much more difficult and also expensive to get right.

Heres a long shot. I've got a TY250 mono fitted with drum brakes and the front brake plate has been changed to one that has the brake arm outside not inside like the std TY250 mono.
I dimly remember back in the 80's a popular mod before disc brakes was to fit i think a brake plate off a YZ125 which might be what this has.
I need to order some new brake shoes but everybody wants to know what it's off and i'm not sure nor do i know the year however the shoes on it which need replaceing are OEM Yamaha and are stamped 322-00 ASK 1037 SR2FF so does anybody have access to a cross reference for EBC or Newfren so i can order some new shoes. Tried Yamaha UK but without the model they said they cant help.
Any ideas guys?

Got to ask Frank why would you want an adjustable engine offset as against a fixed engine offset? I've never known anybody make a frame with an adjustable engine offset.
-
You mean bikes didnt have them fitted by 1964 ? surely not LOL
-
No just dont get what relevance trick cycling on pedal bikes has to proper trials on motorised machines.
Stick to the correct forums. You wouldnt post a question about a Beta in the Honda forum would you? Well you probably would.
-
I usually get mine from Norvil. They can also do new ones but for trials purposes i find the used ones, he has loads because he rebuilds and upgrades customers bikes, are great for our purposes as we are only going to machine them anyway. Just another source.

Keep us posted on "developments" BJ

IMHO better off adding an extra head gasket as if you add extra base gaskets you also alter the port timing. If you are thinking of following that route though as per my original comments why not double check the piston clearence, rings and little end ? Worth making sure while you are there and it's easy enough to do on a 2 stroke especially.

And severely cocks up the steering geometry but if thats how you like it ......
-
Good advice however if you ever want to enter the Scottish event then beware 4 bolt are NOT acceptable. As many others have said, and i agree, thats just one trial a year but i didnt want you to spend your money and be dissapointed later on.

Cant help with practice areas but your best bet is to look in Trials & Motocross News regs avaialble and whats on for a trial local to you and go along and chat to people. I'm sure you will find them friendly and they can probably help you out. Even offer to observe everybody is desperate for observers and you will meet the whole field and learn a lot from just watching other riders.
Welcome to the sport and keep your feet up.

Think youre getting confused. There is a seperate forum for push bikes i.e. Bike Trials For those also into Trials of the non-motorised variety!.

Ah the benifits of twinshocks brakes always work. Dont slow you down much but they always work.
-
Great video just shows you what we all could do if only we had any talent LOL.
One thing that always comes to mind when i see this sort of video and there are loads on tinternet is with that sort of bike control these guys could clean up at world level let along national championships so i can only assume they have no interest in trials as a sport. Such a shame really cos i'm sure he could give Bou a run for his money. Then again thats probably it money? Bet they can make more doing other things than they ever could doing trials.
Still think it's a shame but i wish i had even 0.01% of the control he shows in the vid.
-
I notice the Jack Wood Trial is going ahead in the events forum so wouldnt it be worth contacting them to see how they got on obtaining MSA approval? Perhaps they could be helpfull with some hints and tips ?
Just a suggestion after all we are all in it together arent we?
-
No big deal Mike but my original advice is still good.
-
Always felt it a bit unkind how they try to depict Don Smith as a "Laurel and Hardy" sort of figure on this video. Some good footage otherwise though. Funny how when you look at some of the sections though it makes you wonder how we would do today with todays Twinshocks on them.
Strange how things move on ? bet Stuart Hall wont get much voice over work ever again.
Do like the idea of a Superstars event though. Bit of a forerunner to Kickstart. Quite a few names from that era absent though.
Great memories from the halcyon days of trials.

still very cheap, almost cost, if tube type. As per my previous post re car boots and copied DVD / Cd's perhaps somebody has taken a mould off Michelin's and remoulded some cheepo copies as in lookalikes? Look i dont know but i can tell you at that price if they are genuine there is NO PROFIT so why would you "sell" ?As i said before same as with counterfeit DVD's cavieat emptor.

Try getting an old clutch plate and welding a stout piece of bar to it that should lock the centre so you can use an air gun on it to undo.
-
Reminds me of the old "Tango" adverts. Well done with getting her into trials it's amazing how these TY80's just soak up the punishment and the years and just keep on going.
-
Wonder what NFL football would be like if they played that to non stop rules? Err probably have to rename it Rugby LOL
Only playing guys

If they were kosher he would be making very little if any profit which after all is why he is supposed to be there. Sounds a bit dodgy to me after all these sort of events are the same as car boot sales selling pirate DVD and CD's. Thing is with tyres they all look the same and you see people twisting knobles like they know what they are doing but believe me there are tyres that look like trials tyres and there are Trials tyres. Normally in life you get what you pay for and thats no more true than with tyres.
If you just want to improve the price you will get selling your old nail on flea bay, i'm not saying thats you BTW, then i suppose theres a case for it but without trying them out you will never know till you do and after all they are not that much cheaper than the real thing. Mark up on tyres is bu66er all but you sell them hoping the customer will buy something else at the same time.
