  1. mmmm...cheers Howard..and there was me thinking there weren't any alternatives for the Beta. Sounds like the Dellorto and the PWK would be worth a try..(when i've got some spare dosh!)..think I'll give the Keihin a miss though, with all the adjustments being on the wrong side.
  2. Credit where credit is due!!!! The Beta dealer in Hong Kong, not only delivered me a rear brake pedal on a SUnday..(yesterday)...but also fitted it for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Now there's service!!!!... SO a BIG thank you to them!! Its true...trials folks ARE the best people on the planet
  3. Lets just try to stick to the alternative carb chat on this post guys!!...there have been so many posts over the years regarding the "other" topic/issue. THat Dellorto is sounding more and more interesting Carl..........I see the one in the picture is an R9359, and you give your jetting info for an R9354.........is there any difference?
  4. Cheers Bistlu...all ideas are welcome...at this stage I dont really mind what it is..just trying to keep to a rather tight budget is the restricting factor at the moment. Will keep my eye out for a VW as well then!
  5. I was expecting that post from Billy!!!!!...and sorry if you think I've stirred this up a bit Billy I actually followed your instructions ages ago..and mine is fine too.....so your help IS appreciated. I'm just curious as to the "other" fixes that get suggested and their effectiveness or not? ALSO..please see my other post about alternative carbs...again, that was just out of curiosity as to why Beta owners dont SEEm to dabble with alternatives. personally I have no problems with my Mikuni, and certainly dont have anything against them. It is also very much the case with me, that any problems I have in trials is ME and not the machine!!!!!!!!!
  6. Mmmmm....now this is getting interesting...thanks for some great info Mike and Carl....it certainly sounds like the Dellorto would be interesting since the bits are all on the correct side. I wonder if Keihin DO make one with the adjustments on the right????..anyone know? keep the ideas coming in guys and girls
  7. ages ago BVM also told me that they can do a mod involving drilling the carb It would be good to see some pics of one done....I guess its similar to the kdmoto thinb, so I'll have a look at their website too.
  8. mmmmm...cheers bikespace..good ideas..and I'm definately gonna start trying to have a few spares handy. Just frustrated me the other day that I couldnt think of a smarta** way around the problem for a temp. fix I love a good bodge when its possible! Bush mechanics as my Australian friend here calls it!
  9. yeah kal..would be very interesting to get more comments from that guy...and some pics if possible...I would guess its pretty difficult to get one to fit on
  10. Oops..should have said...its a beta rev3 and it snapped, where the pedal disappears from view..behind the frame!
  11. Just thinking aloud again!!!!!! Broke my rear brake pedal the other day, and couldnt find a replacement quickly, so had a ride around anyway. SO...the thing that was frustrating me the most,,,,was...thinking...."I bet there's a temporary fix that I could do to this, IF I was a bit smarter"!!! I'm sure some of you die-hard more experienced trials riders out there would have known what to do....so..if you do..please let me know. I'm sure a rider doing something like the Scott trial would have come up with some brilliant temp. fix......or do you all carry spares around with you in UK... or maybe you just dont brake things as often as I do!
  12. Yeah...please post pics of the findings etc....theres several guys here would be interested since sending a carb over to UK for a fix from here, means being bikeless for FAR too long I'm very interested to know what mod. BVM do, IF you do go down that route. Damnnnn....wish I was back in time for that novogar round....NEXT year..definate!!!!!!!!!
  13. OK...sting..I guess the original SIDI sole was a BIT knackered...as in the grip had been eaten off it.....I COULD have stayed with that since it still had plenty of thickness in it...but that combined with the fact that cobblers are very good and VERY reasonable here, I thought..OK..give the Gaernes soles a try... that was the only reason really. Thats a cracking offer in TMX...mind you..the new ones..I THINK dont have such a tough upper as the old ones like my pic.....but they still seem to be very good boots. Oh....also..not only do the new ones have a softer upper...(not so good in my opinion)...but they also have a completely different sole now...the new sole..I think is MUCH nicer than the old one...but again, a bit softer, so might not last as long?
  14. Ooooohhh...theres a few replies to stir the pot up a bit..
  15. yep...99 percent sure that BVM said they had one to fit the 02
  16. Damn...I thought I'd got away with my wobbling and convinced you that I really CAN ride Heath.. you must have seen through it all. Them twinshockers will still kick my ar**
  17. Hey....'bout time that Hong Kongs Number one rider did some more posting!!!!!!! good to see you on here Michael...now how about some tips on how to control all that power as well as you do! I'm definately still too faint hearted!!!!!
  18. Had some interesting chats about that float bowl extension thing neonsurge,,with someone in the know..who reckoned it only really made a big difference when doing huge splats and the like, on the bike.....hence I didnt get one!!!!!...mind you...a carb that would run upside down might be REALLY usefull to me! One thing that got me really thinking about this...(and yes i'll repeat myself again)..is not necessarily to chat about any problems there might be with the standard carb,....but if anyone had tried a different one. Mostly 'cause a mate of mine just put a Keihin on his Sherco, and the difference in performance alone is amazing. If it was the same with a Beta...(and ...ahem..going off topic,..it DIDNT dribble) then I might be tempted to give one a try
  19. mmmm.....good luck! SO......HAS anyone out there ever fitted a different carb to their Rev3????
  20. Mmmm...cheers clarkp...I;m pleased you think its a good topic...personally I think so too!!!! I hope the topic stays clear of "how to fix it" etc...since we all know there are plenty of opinions on that....I'm mostly just curious, like I said, why owners of the 'other' bikes sometimes use alternative carbs altogether, and Beta owners dont tend too. keep the ideas coming folks
  21. Cheers bistlu...cant make the August one, but Bowley Court sounds good...know it well...hope you have fun! Will be back early october, so I'll keep my eye on TMX as soon as I get back. Cheers...STU

    Rev3 Carb.

Just thinking out loud...not something I'm gonna do yet, 'cause mines OK... BUT.. seems like quite a few people experience niggling problems with their Beta mikuni carbs...(which I know before anyone gets upset) can be sorted out.... anyway..my point is...it seems on many other bikes like Gas Gas Sherco etc, people switch to a different carb alltogether. Never really heard of anyone doing it on a Rev3....and so I was just wondering why...just curious??... yes probably mindless curiousity..but there you go...any comments will be interesting to me at least
  23. Theres a couple other points James...which have been mentioned many times on previous posts...so do a search....but to be honest they're only very small things, like the exhaust mounting points etc.....(which are really much better from the 04 onwards)...but like I say its only small points...I would think basically its just down to which one you like to ride the most/what your budget is/which colour you like!
  24. sorry you're still having problems Marky ...mines allways been OK..but I know where you mean for the leak...and have seen many leaking from there. BVM do a mod for the Beta carbs which they say cures everything....if its not too pricey, it might be worth posting it to them to get it sorted once and for all??
  25. Not a very excitiing topic, but every now and again someone asks about opinions on boots.... well, to be honest, I dont have MUCH experience of other boots...but I just want to say.... WELL DONE SIDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!.........my trials boots are now over 2 years old...have seen, I think well over 600 hours of trials use, and probably half as much again on the road with my road bike. You can see by the pictures, that they still have some life left!!...all pretty good for just over 100 pounds...(here in Hong Kong) Yep...you'll see I did re-sole them with a Gaerne sole, but to be honest, i didnt NEED too, it was more an experiment than anything. Anyone thinking of doing that...I would say, well,...its a cheap way to get a boot with a fresh sole on it, but find youself a good cobbler, mine said the SIDI soles were the toughest/strongest bonded sole, that he'd ever had to remove from anything.....I think he almost regretted taking on the challenge. SO...thanks SIDI..I'll definately be buying your boots again...but I probably wont need too that often...hee-hee
