I recently discovered that the case on my 07 Beta had corroded just below the water pump impeller in such a way that the o-ring doesn't seal tightly. The bike has limited time on it (about 25 hrs) and was purchased as a leftover last Sept. It had the factory coolant in it so it was not a matter of using the wrong product. I think the castings for the cases are sensitive to corrosion and changing the coolant is required more frequently. Ron at Beta USA stands behind his bikes and is getting me a replacement case in Aluminum. He recommends changing the coolant along with transmission oil with the magnesium cases. About every 90 days. I have engine ice in my garage and will be using this coolant. Changing the coolant every 90 days sounds like good preventative maintenance especially since the bike only holds about 500cc.

I would just remove the cover after washing the bike or getting it really wet. It is 3 allen bolts and takes all of 5 minutes to remove and spray it out with WD40 and compressed air. I remove mine every so often just to be safe.

I agree that getting a bike is the way to go. All bikes have their little idiosyncrasies and problems. Choose the one you like the best and go with it. I have found that trials bikes seem to hold up well. I bought an 07 Beta and the only minor issue is the mudguard wears a hole in it, this is not really a big deal at all. All you tend to hear about in forums is the people having bike issues, there are always going to be bikes with problems. Trials bikes are produced in relatively low volume and designed for a niche market.

Primary should be about 0.5 Ohm and the secondary should be 5k Ohm or more depending on if you have the plug cap on since the cap has a resistor in it.

Same thing happened on my new bike as well.

Thanks Dan! I really liked riding your bike. It was very smooth and easy for me to ride. I am going to go for an 07 since I plan to keep the bike for a few years and I feel it is a better deal for me. I don't think I'd go wrong with either the 270 or the 250. I'll get used to whichever bike I buy. I just need to sell my current bike so I can get the new one.

There are a few leftover 2007 Rev's available from the US distributor, there are only a few left and I need to sell my 1999 Techno in order to get all the money together for a new bike. I haven't had much interest in the bike since it is getting close to winter here. The way I see it is that the 2008 most significant improvement is the carb, obviously a 2007 will be worth a lot less than a 2008 in the used market if I wanted to sell it in say a year.

I rode an 05 Beta 270 today and it did not feel any stronger than my 250. It was actually mellow and very stable. I also tried a Sherco 2.9 and a Gas Gas Raga and both were too snappy for me but the Beta was nice. I am going to look around for 07 bikes to see what is out there.

I am wondering if the changes to the 08's justify waiting for them to arrive vs buying an 07 leftover for over $1000 USD less. In most cases I think it is worth it to wait for the new bike since the leftover is really a year old and looses value fast. However I plan to keep the bike for at least the next 3-4 years. I think it may be worth waiting for the new Keihin carb or is the Mikuni fine with the modification recommended on here? I am also wondering how people feel about a 250 vs 270. I currently have a 99 Techno 250 and I am looking to upgrade it.

Steve at Motoplat will give you the resistance ratings to test your stator before sending it to him.

Did you check the resistance across the coil? Both primary and secondary? I had a similar issue and the coil had a short across the secondary windings.

I just spent a lot of time understanding the wiring on my 1999 Techno. Mine came without the lights, and some modified wiring. There are 2 yellow wires coming off the stator, one goes to ground the other goes to the fan. Their is a voltage regulator installed in the fan wiring, then from the regulator there is a rectifier (converts to DC). Their is also a black wire from the stator harness, this is for the kill switch. It is the same wire that goes into the CDI. Wire the kill to this and the other end to ground. These wires are the only wires that do not go into the connector to the CDI. My bike doesn't have the original wiring for the lights at all so I can really answer questions on that other than what is contained in the wiring diagram.

I am working on getting a 1999 Beta Techno running that doesn't have spark (I have a coil on order as it tested bad). I just got the bike and the lighting and other wiring has been disconnected. I tracked most of it down and have a few remaining questions. There are 3 wires from the engine (stator) that don't go to the CDI. They are as follows: Yellow - to Fan circuit (Matches schematic) Yellow - to ground (Matches schematic) Black - disconnected on my bike, It appears that it should go to the Voltage regulator for the fan circuit. Can someone chime in if I am correct? The additional 5 wires go to the CDI through a connector and all looks good there Brown White Black/White Red Black What is the best way to install a kill switch? Should I tap into the black wire going into the cdi from one end of the switch and another to ground? Thanks, Greg

I just bought my first trials bike. I have enduro/offroad riding experience and wanted to try trials. My bike is also having starting problems due to lack of spark. I am trying to find the root cause. It looks like the automatic fan, headlight, and kill switch were disconnected on my bike, is this common? Should I wire the fan back? Why would the kill switch be disconnected? I think my issue is either the stator, the coil, or simply a bad ground. I am going to test them soon to find out. I am looking forward to getting the bike started and learning how to ride trials.
