Just to confirm that taking a dremel {or similar} to the side wall of the seal works great !
Did all four in my legs in under 30mins + tea break . I did however cut / peel as much of the rubber seal as possible. Thanks to who ever suggested it .
Heres a few images .

Cheers Andy , but getting back to my initial question , how rare is the Hi-Boy Bultaco frame ? ta Greg

Not a problem if its been "gently" vapour-blasted , as its too passive to effect mechanical tolerances , how do I know ? ... I have one plus ultrasonic cleaners for restoration work .

Guys ,
I have been using my Miller Hi-Boy framed 250 'taco at a few club meets {with mixed results} and always well pleased when people come over to check it out .
My question to those in the know is ... how rare is the '79 Hi-Boy frame ?
Cheers

Have you tried speaking to Chris at Elderfields M/cycles in Farnham ?
-
Totally agree with Maxbikes , never powdercoat any parts that need air to cool them, the powder coating
traps the heat and you will cook the item .... you now have the un-enviable problem of getting the coating
off the fins.

Think I've been lucky and found a used one , lets pray its ok ..... but will still show it to a machinist mate of mine and see whats the damage to CNC a billet unit for the future.

Damm glad I've not got my monocoque Suzuki B120 Lampkin special anymore , I'd be skinned alive , seriously though why does'nt the Trials Twinshock world follow similar rules applied in the scramble world ,IE: twinshocks must have cable drum brakes and be period to the year or they get moved into "prototype" / "evo" classes .... personally I'm running a Pinky because I dont want to trash my Hi-Boy Bultaco but after the weekends terrible ride I may just switch bikes and be done with it. But then again am in the over 50's so should be there just for the fun of it , but then again .....
All best

Guys , been told am not the only one and wont be the last to say "my rear brake on my pinkys knackered" , the crank pin has been bogged before but now the pivot pin has given up the ghost and all I had for a trial was a sticking / useless back brake which had me using the front more than I like ... now heres the question{S}
2. Does anyone make a billet unit .... John @ TY says he's looking at it but that does help me now !
3. Will another brake plate work with some mods eg: TY80 ?
4. Anyone else had the same craking/pivots giving up issues and if yes how did you fix it ?
5. Last but not least is there a suitable rear disc brake conversion ? ... eg: will the TY250Z wheel / caliper fit
{with mods to swingarm}
Open to all suggestions , or its going to be a very long summer !
Thanks in advance

Cheers for that , had a practice hour on the bike yesterday and well pleased , just wondered why I never bought one sooner . I hear what you say about the relative thickness of oils , I only use semi-sythetic in my early Bultaco for this very reason . I did however buy the proper Power 1 oil , they do a different one for injectors . But again this was only advice given by the seller . Am looking for a genuine service manual if anyones got one . All best Greg

Hi Guys
Not new to dirt bikes , but certainly new to the Pinky , so any advice gladly accepted and
appreciated .... first dumb question{s}
1. Engine "rattle" on over run ... is this normal ...sounds like the piston is trying to escape !
2. As with above "pinking" ... dont think the bikes had lots of use so might just need a good
blast and will fuel up using Castrol Power1 {old TTS} and Shell V Power {as I gather Pinkys like
high octanes}
Thats about it for now , feel free to pitch in , not looking to set the trials world alight , but some
nice results in the Over 50's would be great ..
All best
Greg
Ps, Big John , don't worry still got my Bultaco !
-
Hi Alt
Am running 50:1 [or 2%] Bel-Ray Semi-Sythetic in my 198 lump , fired it up for the first time today and its nice n clean ...
Hope that helps ,
Greg
Ps, If you google ... "pre-mix ratios" you should get a few sites with a fuel to oil ratio calculator !

Hi Guys
For those that where following my previous thread "Bultaco Mechanic Wanted" ... am pleased to say the bike is NOW running and starting second or third kick ! ...wont go into to many details other than heres the final chapter ... but shortened !
1. Last week the barrel went of to Dave R for a re-bore / new piston etc ...as there was so much wear it would just not run , it was still on its original bore size !
2. This week and barrel is back + box of more goodies ready for assembly !
3. Sat / Sunday ... Engine back together ... wiring mocked up to check spark with the new HT coil , its now very fat and blue !
4. Sun afternoon , all fueled up ready for the big test ... fired up third kick ..and once warm first / second kick !
5. Warmed up / cooled down 5 - 6 times , all looks ok so far ... so next week .. on with final assy of other bits , air-box, side-panels ect !
Am so relieved to have reached the end of a very long tunnel and now got the bike running , just need to fine tune the carb and get entering those meetings , just a quick thanks to those who racked their brains for ideas as to why the bike would'nt run . For those who did'nt follow the previous thread the conclusion was ... fresh crank seals [plus also all oil seals] a re-bore , new HT coil , new Mikuni carb , points , condensor where the main items that had to be sorted to get the bike running !
Cheers

Just read your comment.
Some time back, I bought what I 'believed' to be a Miller Hi-boy frame for a Honda TL125 (and not a Bultaco) but a standard TL engine will not fit the frame's current engine mountings. As the current mountings appear to be not original I just thought a previous owner had cut out the originals to mount a differently sized engine and it never crossed my mind that it might be that the frame is a Bultaco Hi-boy. I also never thought to contact Sammy Miller (as when I spoke to them recently, they said all their records on the TL hi-boy had been lost). I will e-mail a photo to them with a request but if you could e-mail me a photo of your Bultocao hi-boy frame, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Heres pics of the main Sammy Miller "signature" parts of his Hi-Boy '78 era frames , hope this helps !

Of course you don't have to move the condenser, just something that you may want to try. I'm also not using a stock Bultaco condenser, so the outside mounting is my only option.
I can't think of any reason why to use a second LT coil, other than I'm starting to suspect that the Greg likes to mess with things too much.
LMAO ... yes its the "think to much" engineer within .... but it was just a thought lol .....hey dont even get me going on 2-stroke oil & ratios !!
All best
Guys !
Either that or he subscribes to the good ol' American philosophy that "if one is good, then more is better".
