Simpler way of doing this........slacken off the top fork nut, slide the complete leg from the yokes, turn it upside down and use a T handled allen key to undo the damper rod bolt (if you feel it turning the rod, apply some downward pressure to the allen key, and the spring will stop the rod from turning)

1964 Bultaco calander...........presumably, they were developing trials bikes in 1963. No wonder Miller only took 2 weeks to sort the bike, it looks like it was pretty well done 2 years before he got it.
-
I now have been informed from "a man that knows" that Millers Bultaco 669NHO was running a modified Matador frame......so technically a M10 4 speed did not exist pre 65 in any form.

Very good Dean.....I spotted your April fool.....thats Elvis in the blue shirt !!!!!

Just found this for sale on a French website for

According to the DVLA website, Miller's Bultaco 669NHO was first registered 26.11.1964.
So....the fact it was built pre65 and used in a trial pre65....surely makes it qulaify. If you use the arguement that it was not available to the general public, then in theory most of the BSA Bantam/B40's should be not be eligible either, as they were only produced as a road bike (with the exception of the rigid D1 competition !!)

Anyone got any simple ideas for removing the crud that builds up when 2 stroke has been left in the bottom of a carb ????
This is a fine example of what I am talking about...
-
Hi Steve
No, its from an 89 aircooled TXR (the purple/red one)....it allows you to use one finger on the clutch instead of the two hands required to use the standard set up.

In amongst the van full of bits I collected from Italy last weekend were a selection of "works" modified front pipes.
The top picture shows a standard chrome finish front pipe with the modified ones either side. I had a quick attempt at fitting them on my bike, but both would need the fins removing from the head before fitting...which I might try at a later date.
The third pipe fitted straight on my bike, and has a couple of extra bends before it hits the middle box, and looks similar to the production front pipe on the Jumbo 350's. It looks neater, but I cant say it runs any different.

The "Handsome Paparazzi" is Italian trials photo journalist Giulio Mauri......how do I know that, I hear you ask......because I was sat drinking red wine with him in his kitchen on Saturday evening

Here's a different slant on youngsters getting involved.
My sisters boyfriend and two of his mates....all in their mid 20's, all ex mountain bikers.....decide to have a go at trials, and promptly go off and buy themselves 3 bikes. This was back in the autumn, and they had a crack at a couple of trials, but felt they needed more practise as none of them had particularily ridden motorcycles before.
Then comes the "where can we go practising ?".......which around our neck of the woods is a bit thin on the ground...or so I thought.
I had given them the lecture about, sneeking off into the woods and peeing off land owners/members of the public/police etc and told them about a bit of ground that we used a few years back pointed them in the direction of the landowner and suggested they stock up with, cash/bottles of scotch/chocolates etc and see what happens.
Now these guys are keen and as the novelty of the bikes hadn't worn off were quickly bored of the area I had told them about, so they started asking around and in the space of 6 weeks had 10 different areas they could practise in with the owners permission.....3 of which were excellent venues that were used for trials 20 odd years ago.
The point here is that with a bit of enthusiasm there are still loads of fresh venues to use for trials, all you have to do is ask....maybe go back through some of your clubs old venues or venues from other clubs that have packed in running trials or clubs that no longer exist.

Does the top of your piston look anything like this ??
.....if so its pre-ignition, so check out your timing.
Martin
-
Yes, you can bore out a 240 barrel to take a 280 piston.
The 240 cylinder head will fit onto a 280 barrel but the squish areas are different.
Cheers

Got my sister in law snow boarding off the back of the Beta today.....dont often get the chance to do that in Somerset

PS. I know we should have been wearing crash hats, but you gotta seize the opportunity when you can.

Not bad, would prefer this

Think you are all slightly wrong.....its a 1997 JTX270.
96 JTR270 (silver forks, silver crankcases).....JTX Gold forks & red crankcases.

Hi Jim
I dont know if they ever used them on the works bikes. The Aprilias were still using points ignitions on their air cooled bikes right up to 1989.
As for the works bikes....a friend of mine here in England has 2 of Bernie Schreibers works Jumbo' (both with points !). He kindly let me display one of them on my stand at the Malvern show a couple of years back
As for Burgats bikes....his World Championship winning TL320 is displayed in Joel Corroys shop in France.

Hi Jim
No it wont fit for several reasons.
1. Right side of the trials crank is about 2 inches longer than the mx/enduro
2. Stator plate for MX/enduro is mounted on the inside of flywheel cover.
3. The MX/enduro flywheels are about 40% of the size and weight of the trials version.
I am sure that if Mr Seales spots this thread he will chip in on his electronic ignition story.....he got one manufactured and reverted back to the standard points set up because it ran better.

What an idiot, does he not realise its the Black box flight recorder !!!

He has some new original 300 seats in stock, I saw them there last week !!! His number is 01934 510333

Try sending Jim....Virginiatrials....on this forum a message. Last I heard he had a spare set of yokes that would fit your bike.

I have a lead on a few New SWM plastic tanks in Italy at the moment, anyone interested drop me a pm.

Spotted at an Italian autojumble over the weekend..... KTM trials, now thats gotta be rare
-
Alternative theory number 3....one of yours bikes has hit something hard on the front end and has bent the frame. Check the 2 bikes with the tank off and see if there is any arching of the top tube.
