Hi Willy,
My method;
Remove old grips and clean bar end and throttle body (I use thinners or lighter fluid), dry with a clean cloth.
Steal Mrs Wifes hairsray and generously coat all surfaces.
Slip on new grips and leave overnight
Bosh - jobs a good'un
I've never had a problem with grips slipping off using that method but I'm not a 'push it to the max' kind of rider (more of a 'push it out the section' kind of rider). You can get grip glue if you so desire and use a wire 'tourniquet' to be extra sure?

Welcome to TC Gordeee,
not been to Glen Affric for a while but you've sure got some nice trials ground there. I know the Inverness club hold a few trials around your neck of the woods (Tomchrasky?), I assume you'll be joining up and going for it? Enjoy

Somebody won the Heidenau tyre at the Bash on the Ben............ we await your vote !

Hi there,
Firstly, don't let Copeys sense of humour frighten you too much, the summer heat lends some folk to exaggerate a bit (I did find it rather funny though)!
As Mr Faktree says, your bike (top pic?) is set up correctly apart from the airbox join that faktree rightly pointed out. Your mates bike on the other hand needs a bit of attention. If he copies your set up then all should be well? He also needs to top up his rear brake fluid (or judging by the colour of it, flush it through with some nice new fluid).
I also think your thoughts on cleaning your carb / air filter are well justified going by the dusty stuff everywhere?

Finally got the chance to watch it tonight - excellent viewing yet again
...... and extra thanks for the AC-DC tracks

Hope you're on the tyre theme Pete and not the condom one???????
Also - glad Heidenau don't make condoms..... or do they?

Right with ya on that one Zippy

Cheers Zippy - glad someone has a sense of humour

As there's been a few 'what tyre?' topics recently and a suggestion for a poll and the fact I'm bored on nightshift, here goes..............
Let me know if you think something should be added/deleted (Can't add any more brands - only ten choices but I think I've covered the most of them?)
I personally like Michelins so you know where I've voted, they're a bit of a pain to bead in but that's another topic........
Enjoy

Good idea, it'll give me something to do

A very valid point Rob, the 'nose-weight' of a Polo is indeed 50kg (according to Google) so for info here's a few facts;
All cars (not commercials) registered after 1.8.1998 need to be fitted with a towbar that is 'Type Approved'.
A type approved towbar will (should) have a label/plate on it indicating - Maximum nose-weight, Approval number and the country where the towbar was tested e.g. UK is e11 .
Fitting a type approved tow-bar to new cars will not invalidate the vehicles warranty.
If you do not fit a type approved tow-bar to a car registered after 1.8.1998 it could result in you being prosecuted under the Road Traffic Act.(I assume this is addressed to those people who actually want a towbar fitted and is not mandatory?)
If you fit a non type approved tow-bar to a car registered after 1.8.1998 and you are involved in an accident you may find your insurance is invalid.
You may also find your insurance won't pay out if they learn you're carrying more than the allowed nose-weight.
Exceeding the nose-weight could result in loss of front end traction and steering (same effect as strapping your toolbox on the back of a Superdream and instantly learning how to flip your Honda at the traffic lights while trying to impress some hot chicks - but that's another story!)
So - How heavy is your bike? What is the nose-weight of your vehicle?
I suggest that tom6n2 fixes his speakers to the front of the car to even things out?
Hope this helps you as much as it's helped me to pass away another half hour of nightshift............

Hi Davet,
check list - air filter clean, carb clean, mixture screw set correctly?
Confirm the above and see how you get on.......basically sounds like its running a bit on the rich side? Fuel to air ratio rather than fuel/oil ratio.

Sorry HL, I'm more of a banjo 'owner' than a 'player' ! It hangs in the kitchen next to the crossbow to scare away unwanted visitors
I've just always loved the sound of the banjo after being dragged round folk clubs as a kid. Never really got passed Flower of Scotland or the first few lines from Duelling Banjos so I don't really know much about the names associated with them. Do you think Stuart does lessons?
GJ

I also enjoy both but my banjo playing is worse than my trials riding - say no more !
For sure Donald, I'm really looking forward to it regardless of rules, regulations or whatever else. All involved in setting this up should be highly commended by the trials community as far as I'm concerned. I'm going because 'I Love Trials' - no other reason. Watching world class riders, the smell of two stroke, the banter, the midges, the memories etc etc.....
If it was at the other end of the country, I'd still be going. Stop, no stop, whatever, I'd still be going. Trials is a minority sport and I try my best to promote it locally so when someone endevours to promote it on a national (world?) level then they have my respect.
No doubt after the event has passed there will be numerous topics and many opinions on all that happened - that's what these forums are for after all. In the meantime though, let's not put a cloud over what has the making of an excellent event.
The soap box will now be turned upside down and be used for packing essential spectator items........I'll leave the waterproofs near the top though!

Hi Wetfeet,
if my memory serves me right then it should be as follows;
VTR = International manufacturers code. VTR = GasGas
GG = Trials model
1299 = Engine capacity & year (12= 125 + 99= 1999)
0399 = Month of manufacture and year (March 1999)
0162 = chassis number (ie; this is the 162nd bike off the production line)
So if I'm right then your mates daughter has a 125 Gasgas made in March 1999 ?
Hope I'm right and this helps ?

Very nice indeed but why are the championships held in the US if they're all Poles?

Thanks for the reminder Andy, just ordered some more - evil little blighters just love feasting on me, must be the alcohol content ?

Hi James,
75ml or 100ml or anywhere inbetween really? It's a matter of preference. Have a look at this to help you decide - Clicky Here
If you're still unsure after that then the 'Too much is better than not enough' approach works for some folks (Usually the ones you can't see for clouds of smoke) !

P.S. I run fully synthetic at 80ml to 5 litres

If you pre-ordered they should have been posted yesterday so should be with you shortly?

From the DVLA website;
Definition of a moped;
Before the re-vamp of the re-vamp of the re-vamp regarding motorcycle tests and entitlements, a full car licence would also allow you to ride up to a 125cc (with 'L' plates) but this is no longer the case. Not a bad thing in many peoples opinions but it's a shame the car test hasn't followed the same path.
Anyhooz, before I digress further.......get yer moped running, get out on the highway (Born to be Mild -Stepthruwolf)

and here he is......Pipers Burn (but we're still calling him TC). Hope the new owners call him something decent?
it's gonna be hard to say goodbye
....at his first stag party
and just in case you're interested the other four were called; Florence is a Machine, Zebedee Gasgas, Sunrise at Windyhills and WesterWindyhills Magic

I love my Gaernes, very comfy but a bit over budget perhaps? The new Askew boots seem good value at the moment, somebody must have tried them by now? My son had some Formas a few years back that he said were good and the Forma Boulders are bang on your budget just now?
I would imagine they'll all feel great after you've been using MX boots though...........try some on before you buy if you can as the sizes differ between brands.
Happy shopping.
