  1. None at all, the front pipe on my sherco factory is titanium and I do the same with that. Used the 250 as an example because the pipe looked rougher on that bike so the difference obviously stands out better.

I usually go over the swing arm + exhaust every 3 rides quickly with a pad to keep it looking fresh. Also stops any build up of rust or anything on the front header pipe by doing this. Nothing worse than a scruffy looking bike to me lol

    Yeah nothing worse!

Already had the autosol on the hubs, bash plate and silencer haha

  2. Use a light pad, spray it with wd40 give it a good going over then wipe all the excess off with a paper towel and wallah.

I use a grey pad on my exhausts + swing arm and also do all the frame on my mx bike frames.

Just gave one of the bikes a quick going over and heres the difference after 1 minute on a steel exhaust, if you want a nice shine you can use metal polish (Autosol or peek) instead of wd40 and that'll give a nice mirror finish.

    Cheers for that!

Will give it a go, think there would be any difference with my front pipe being titanium?

  3. So I am starting to thing it might be bottom end rumble or bearings or something. My other theory is the fuel octane but not sure as it is running super unleaded at around 98 octane. Maybe worth a shot with octane booster?

In your case it may of been worth getting the barrel checked over, as from the video the knocking is pretty loud! Much better than before though really depends on how long your looking to keep the bike and how much you want to put into it!

My bike ran well after the top end was done! loads of power until the coil decided to pack up and god knows what else so now that's been replaced its back fighting fit! Got to say its amazing the difference!

keep us posted on what happens!

  4. Right, just been on the phone to Sandifords who sell the piston kit, and looks like the only option is an "A" piston and putting any larger piston in the barell is a big no no.

Glad I rang because I was going to buy a "B" piston.

Will keep this updated and hopefully an after video next week with a nice quiet engine!

    Did you get sorted mate?

I've just got mine back together and its sounds like new! The letter is stamped on the out side of the barrel on the intake side

On putting it back together there wasn't any problems apart from putting the head on backwards haha but well impressed with the power gain!

  5. guessing you were trying to buy it for spares then?

The pallet was about £45, but then i got stung with a £30 collection charge as he went home at 5pm..10 mins before the courier tried to collect ! .. so didnt end up being quiet the bargin.

But Im looking forward to having it back together. Saving the bike, rather than stripping it :)

    That was the plan!

I was going to do the top end on my bike any way but I thought may as well do a full rebuild if I had a spare engine but you then out bid me! Good luck with putting it back together!!!

  6. Mind the gap! :wall:

I've heard there is nothing to worry about and just to put the new piston and rings in and then I've heard its best to check the gaps?

I've never done this before and currently on changing the top end on my Montesa 315r

    Any advice of pointers?

Do I need to line up the rings?

Do I need to measure the gaps?

I'm a dab hand at mechanics but this is one job I've never done before

    Thanks!

  7. Here is my first montesa,

Im hoping i know where all the bolts go !

I bought it on a pallet, its had a new bottom end, i've just bought a new top end. Time to tackle the rest of the bike :)

  8. Alright cool, I'll see how I get on cheers.

Took mine to bits last night super simple took the radiator out and some wires and moved them to one side and pulled the barrel off! Piston and bearing were pretty beat up but the barrel look sound!

Order the kit today from JimSandifords so will let you know if it goes back together as easy as it was to came apart haha

  9. Finally got round to fitting my original Montesa decals and found a way of recycling the after market ones! Thanks to H & D Racing for sorting me out with the stickers

  10. My constantly evolving 2003 315. Some even more very special bits coming soon for it, but this is how she looked for tonight's trial :-)

Man that looks amazing! I am really thinking i need to join the black frame band wagon!

Is that a 4RT rear mud guard?

  11. Just fully rebuilt my 315 (nut and bolt), Powder coated frame, swing-arm and other parts, all linkage brgs, and forks rebuilt. Full engine rebuild with new piston, cylinder, clutch etc.

Its taken time but am very happy with the results....... :D

Just got to get time off work and get it dirty !!!!!!

Man that looks awesome with a black frame!!!

Here is a better picture of my Montesa -

  12. I use bamboo socks that are extremely resistant to bacteria. I tested as pair for use with my road bike which I ride most days (27,000 kilometres in 2 yrs) and I didn't wash them for as long as I could before they became rank.

I wore them for 6 months without washing I kid you not! No bad smell even then! My wife washed them even though they were not bad she just couldn't do it any longer!

We use them exclusively now for motorcycling. In trials boots (I have Wulfsport), enduro and road.

They aren't even very expensive... about $10 Aussie.

They are great for extended trips on the bike as you don't have to wash socks!

One downside is that they take a bit longer to dry because of fine fibres and the fibre wicks into itself where normal poly is waterproof on the fibre itself, I think.

See if I can dig up a pic! I have sent these to friends in the USA (motorcyclists) and they have come back, Wow! No wash for ages socks!!

    Use these then liner ?

    Mags

That is not a bad shout, i mentioned your idea to a lad i work with and turns out he was wearing a T-shirt made out of 70% bamboo and commented on how fresh it always is! This may imply he doesnt wash mind

Ive managed to find 3 pairs at £5.00 on the net available in a range of colours as well hahaa ive also changed the soles in my liners so they are at least a little bit fresher! Cheers for the advice!

  13. I have noticed a show us your 4rt thread but im not posh enough to own such a machine!
