Yep thats right, you have the two screws, the hole is just a hole. Its not threaded and is closed at the other end so nothing goes in it. Must be something to do with the casting process i guess.

Download a program from the drive manufacturer to complete the first format.
In the case of Maxtor drives the program is 'Maxblast', Seagate also have their own.
You run this program, it will complete a quick format/setup and windows will be able to see the new drive.
Should sort it.

I have a different model carb, a CS apparently. 2 adjustment screws though.

Hi,
Glad you got your oil change sorted.
For thes rest I would change the spark plug and clean the carb. Usual mixture is 80:1 (63ml of oil to 5L of petrol), running with 50:1 mixture is likely to have fouled the plug. Carb should be cleaned as sitting for any length of time the petrol can evaporate and 'gum up' the internals. Make sure you air filter is sparkly clean to, fairy liquid works well!
All that said I still foul my plug at 80:1 and have oil dripping from my silencer Somethings a little rich somewhere I think, going to experiement with needle position and see if I can make any headway. Will let you know if this sorts it.
Cheers,
John.

Hi,
I used the Haven Trialsport friction plates first but what really made a difference was changing to the Apico steel clutch plates from BVM. They are dimpled which holds oil better or something.
I still get a little drag starting from cold but after that its fine - ie. I start myself rolling, tap it in to first, catch it on the back brake with a bit of revving and slipping and its good to go for the rest of the day.
-
Standard baffle packing, you can buy from many people.
-
Thats the problem! Too many four strokes these days, no where near as fragrant!
-
I reckon it's because they don't have to pay for the new top ends!
-
I use 500ml so i can get two changes from a 1 litre bottle. But I am a tight ass.
-
Try changing the throttle from a 'fast action' one to a 'slow action' one. Throttles Link
You could also gear it down a little depending on what setup you have at the moment. Try changing the front sprocket for a 9 tooth one if it's still on the standard 10T one.
-
If its the part i'm thinking of then a good welder could do it but the positioning needs to be spot on as it'll effect to the performance of the suspension if its even a few mm out. I'd be looking for a replacement from ebay or someone like ellastone offroad.

As a rule 6psi in the front and 4psi in the rear works well in most conditions. The lower the better on mud but it depends on the tyre and age of it, new tyres and different makes have different stiffness of sidewalls. I was running my IRC rear at 2psi for the last two very muddy trials but as it's broken in I've put it up to 3.5psi as I'm worried that it'll come off the rim. Not had a tyre come off the rim yet so i'm not sure quite how far you can push it.

Doesn't help my cause to find a cheap 2nd hand 4rt, they're holding value well it seems. I'm guessing high new prices are discouraging people from selling.
-
Should still be able to get one for the '02 from my site - Link
Only differences will be the forks and the carb. I've not come across for the '99 model yet but if anyone has one I'd be grateful.
-
Have you checked the spark with the spark plug out of the cylinder? I was wondering about the coil.
I can't remember the jet sizes in mine at the moment I'm afraid, but have you checked the float height as well?
I'd agree it sounds like a carb problem but you seem to know what you're talking about and carbs are reasonably simple so I don't know what else to suggest!
You haven't changed the front pipe recently have you? I put the later (2000 onwards?) chrome front pipe on my older bike to replace the black one and it had baffles in it that I had to grind out.
Are there any air leaks in the rubber bits going to and from the carb?
And (don't hate me I have to ask!) 80:1 is about 63ml of oil to 5L of fuel?
-
Does it die if you open full throttle when going over flat ground? Or just when going up a hill?
-
It does look like mine! The black chrome stanchions are the giveaway that it's a '99. No idea why mine has the later '00 decals though......
-
-
I would guess at it being electrical and would check the resistances are in tolerance on the Coil and on the Stator (or Magneto or whatever it's called).
-
Mines a 99 and has a rubber thingy, doesn't look like the one shown in the parts diagram though. Its just a rubber oblong that fits round the outside. If you've anything missing Sandifords will be able to sort you out off the shelf.
-
The filter should be lightly oiled and fit snugly into the air box opening with a rubber oblong thing on top to hold the shape and seal the edges and then the cover screwed on top of that. Not meaning to imply you are daft or anything but the filter will only go in properly one way. Try turning it round 180 degrees? Other than that, is it the correct filter?
-
I got my steel clutch plates from BVM as well but mostly anything you need Sandifords will sort you out. I got clutch friction plates from Haven trialsport and FeetUp trialsport usually have an exchange Barrel, Piston, rings etc in stock in you fancy going the whole hog and doing the full top end.
Changing the plates and the top end can be done with the engine in the bike. If you're fully prepared and careful you could have it all done in a day no bother. Even if you get stuck, with the engine in the bike you can still put it away while you wait for bits/advice. Just make sure you cover any openings to the engine with a clean rag or something. And make sure you get a manual for it, torque settings when putting it back together are very important.
-
You can get Elf mail order from BVM moto.
-
Depends on condition, anywhere from
-
Elf oil is great but pricey and hard to come by, PJ1 Ultralight is a good substitute.
If you still have problems with these oils consider replacing clutch plates. I found swapping the metal ones for the Apico ones had a good effect but it does still drag if I use an oil it doesn't like - so far Castrol MTX and Rock oil are no no's.
If you have a search in this forum there is a lot of info on this issue which could help.
