    3.2 Vs 2.9

I also had a new 2.9 for several years in a row. I did not have a trials bike for a couple of years and decided it was time for another one, after reading s lot about the 3.2 I went for it and got an 08, it was a World Round minders bike and was in excellent condition. I was absolutely amazed, it was a true joy to ride, good strong linear power, excellent traction, as my youngest son said, it instills confidence in the rider because it will just go anyplace. It does not seem to care which gear it is in, it just pulls like a bloody tractor. I sold the 08 and have an 09 on order, it is currently on board a freighter heading this way, I hope to have it in 3 or 4 weeks. You do have to learn how to start a 4 stroke and you also must change the engine oil on a regular basis. I HIGHLY recommend the 4t. Wayne
  2. Thanks Chris, that is exactly what I was looking for. Wayne
  3. No doubts are creeping in. The 09 has a different fan motor and a different ignition map along with an additional crank bearing, and the SPS carb is standard. I was just wondering if the 09 owners could tell any difference. If not for those changes I would have kept the 08. I had a very nice 08 that started and ran great except when it got dirt in the pilot circuit of the carb. That circuit must be kept extremely clean. Wayne
  4. If you have an 09 3.2 please tell me how you like it. I had an 08 that I REALLY liked, however the 09 has some improvements that I like so I sold the 08 and ordered an 09 which should arrive in the next 4 or 5 weeks. Thus the question, how does the 09 compare to earlier models? Thanks in advance, Wayne
  5. It sounds like you have some air in the system, make sure that you do not have any leaks and then bleed the system, I believe there is a service manual that covers bleeding the brakes on the Sherco/RYP sites. The information is correct for your 3.2. You may also have a bad seal in the clutch master cylinder that is allowing fluid to pass by it. I would try getting rid of the air first. Wayne
  6. The new SPS carb came with a 45 pilot, that is the one that I used in the original carb. When I took the 08 to RYP for shipping Ryan started Cody's 09 and showed me how it shot fire out of the exhaust, I told him it was lean and he should adjust the air screw. The air screw was set at around 1 turn out, we set it at 1/2 turn and it was much better. The factory says the air screw should be set at 1/2 - 3/4 turns out. Wayne
  7. RL, was that by any chance Chris Johnson?
  8. Sticking clutch solution. People do not like this method but it works and Ryan Young is the one who told me about it. Put the bike in 5th gear and push down on the kickstarter, that will free up the discs, if you are afraid it will start hold in the kill button. Works every time. Another solution is to take the discs out and rough up either the metal plates or the fiber discs in order to eliminate the super smooth surface. Oil on the super polished discs causes them to want to stick together. This particular solution came from RLracer. Wayne
  9. Howard, Where do you live? I have an 08 3.2 4T for sale at a very reasonable price. If you live in the USA let me know. Wayne
  10. I assume that you bought this bike from a reputable Sherco dealer, why don't you take it back to him and have it checked out. It should not take 5 - 7 minutes to start when it is cold. Having to hold the throttle wide open indicates that it is flooded. My 08 would typically start on the 3rd or 4th kick, I left it with a dealer in Oklahoma who is going to sell it for me as I have an 09 on order. It did get to the point where it would not start, I received a note last night that he has taken the carb off and found grease inside of it. I assume that the starting circuit was plugged. I applied grease to the air box spigot to make it easier to insert into the hose on the carb, must have used to much. What technique are you using to start the bike and have you checked the float level? Wayne
  11. I would suggest setting the air screw between 1/2 and 3/4 turns out, also set the idle speed up to a fairly high rate. After it does start how does it run? Wayne
  12. Mark, I am going to leave the bike with RL and let him sell it for me. You will see it next week. We did go ahead and add some rounds to the shock adjuster, very easy job. If you still have the seat that that you took off of your wifes bike would you bring it. I would like to recover it and put it on my new bike when it comes in. Thanks, Wayne
  13. When I get the bike home I will have to turn the shock spring adjuster a round or two, I have not adjusted it since I got it and it has settled a bit. Wayne
  14. Hauled the bike to OK, to visit our daughter and her fiancee. Rlracer took me to Langley and it took 14 kicks to get it started, after it warmed up it was still hard to start. I turned the air screw in about 1/8 turn and it stated much better. Back at the truck it started on the first kick....go figure. I rode his 300 Beta and really liked it, he rode my 3.2 and liked it except the rear shock spring needed to be reset for him. Wayne
  15. We used to have XR400's and one of the things we learned to do to get them started was to turn the idle screw up 1 full turn. This might help with those people who are having trouble starting the 4T. Wayne
  16. How would you compare it to your 07 caby? Wayne
  17. As Mark stated they pull in any gear. 3rd is great for general riding, 2nd is great for most any section, 1st when it is really tight and slow. If you want to race through the woods put it in 4th and hang on. Riding the 4T is a blast more fun than any bike I have ever owned! My 08 sometimes takes 4 or 5 kicks to start cold. Hot, it usually starts on the first kick. If I stall it, normally the 2nd or 3rd, sometimes the first kick. I rarely give it any gas to start. Mine likes a fairly high idle and the air screw is critical around 1/2 turn out is a good starting place. I REALLY like the 4T, my 08 is for sale and I am going to get an 09 4T in the spring. It will be on the Sherco USA's 2nd container. Wayne
  18. When my youngest son rode the 4T he made the comment that it is confidence inspiring. You feel that it will go absolutely anyplace you want to go. It is awesome at climbing hills. Wayne
  19. I got the the carb from Ryan Young Products www.rypusa.com, the list price is $500. Wayne
  20. I guess I have to ask the stupid question? Why would one add a heavy flywheel and a small carb to a new 3.2? My 08 3.2 4T pulls like a tractor, it pulls strong from the bottom and then revs almost like a 2T. So what does the heavy flywheel and small carb do to the performance? I would think sluggish! Wayne
  21. I would suggest talking to John Bliss, since he has one just like it. I know that on the 08 the air screw adjustment is very critical, mine is out about 1/2 turn. Change the oil after the first 5 hours and then every 30 hours thereafter. Wayne
  22. You may have had a foreign object stuck in the blades. Wayne
  23. I was able to ride the 4T up at the club today, first ride with the new SPS carb. The bike performed GREAT, super good power, pulled strong in every gear, absolutely no hesitation and it started on the first or second kick every time after even after dropping it on the RH side. I rode it up hills, down hills, over big logs up steep banks and even on the Hare Scramble course, ran great in every condition. It will putt putt along in first or second gear at idle and then accelerate very smoothly. I am very happy with this bike, I now prefer it to the 2.9 2T. Wayne
