When my son was 6 I had him on a little 16" BMX bike I picked up new and cheap. I then welded a loop of EMT on the bottom of the frame to act as a skidplate. I also made him up a small seat out of a seatpost, more EMT and some foam to give him some more clearance. I also added in some hand brakes for the front.
He still thrashes around on that thing occasionally. Amazing how much use it has seen.

Fill out your profile so we know where you are located and can refer you to someone possibly.
Clutch in / Clutch out / under load / under deceleration / constant / intermittent?????
Could be clutch, could be bearings, could be gears.
Just too many variables, and not enough info, to give an accurate diagnosis.

I will take all you can deliver at that price Ish,,,,,

C'mon Craig
I was not there Mr. Miller, so beat's me, but a couple of thoughts from the side.
www.natctrials.org
Brian's report on there seems to indicate that what your rep's said about maybe a little arm twisting or pressure could be true. He does state that not many came forward wanting to hold events.
I would suggest calling on some of the reps that were there directly or maybe e-mailing them, as I would bet that the story will vary slightly as to what they would be willing to report on an open board.
Jim Watson is an very experienced rep and he was there from TI, and Dan Brown was there from STRA. I am sure either of these gents would be happy to speak with you about your concerns. Maybe contact Brian B himself would be a straight forward approach.
I do wonder how your club had 2 reps, but I am guessing one was there as club rep and one as an importer.
It will probably make for an interesting discussion how a club took a formal vote and voted against having an event, then found themselves on the National schedule.
Anyway, best of luck and hope you guys resolve it satisfactorily.

Wow, I think there are several of us that would not like that 50cc rule if it was too come about. Then again, can you say, machine modification?
However, I do believe that there needs to be the over 250lb class wearing glasses riding with a kid under 10 (subject to go to 11 next year) on an 80 class..... Yeah, that's the ticket, if we write it specific enough I am sure I can be class champ...........
I do not know what the true answers are, but I think this discussion (with the exception of my tounge in cheek additions) are what will create a positive change in the sport.
-
So all I got to do is ride like this?
-
I would buy it being real.
I know several of the bike movies I have seen have similar rides. At some point, it just comes down to the balls to do it that high up.
-
I have to think he is saying,,,
Fall to the right, fall to the right,,,, fall to the right,,,, the whole time.
-
Good Gosh, I do not have any idea who the rider is leaning in the door, but man, you guys must be blind!
I sure would like to meet that team rider though!
-
Not sure this will make sense to others or not..
So I aired on my left grips, cut for the bar ends and away I go.
As I ride, my hand naturally positions the grip "inward" towards the center of the bar.
I am wondering, will it stop moving in? I would think it would reach a position on the bar where my arm / hand was comfortable at, then settle in too that position.. So,, Should I cut off the extra length of unused bar??? about an inch at the moment.
So what effect would having unequal bar lengths relative to the center have? My right arm is clearly stronger than my left so would it not make sense to have the left bar longer than the right? But my little experiment is doing the opposite. Would my throttle assy move inwards if I left it looser and slid in the front brake perch?
Just looking to see if others have thought along these lines before.

As Mark said, probably just broke the shifter spring.
www.rypusa.com and go to Sherco, then the manuals.
The shifter has a spring under the right side case that centers it and gives you the "feel". Easy task, so long as nothing has swirled around in the engine. Make sure that if an ear of the spring is missing, you take the time and find the piece. And do not run it any more to "demonstrate" it to anyone.

Measurements to the side, I usually do not have a ruler handy when setting chain tension.
As I was explaining too my son yesterday, about one of my fingers between the swingarm and the top of the tensioner, about two of his.
Sometimes, you just hit stuff that knocks them off, no matter how perfectly everything is set.
For once, I did not say "Read the manual",,,, But thinking about it, Dab is right, it is all covered there.
-
I guess I am not sure what exactly you are sealing up with silicone.
I seal across the back of the airbox, onto the rear frame support with a piece of duct tape usually.
I believe that ishy runs some home weatherstriping foam in some strategic places around the airbox to seal it too the fender I believe.
I guess if you could explain what you are sealing too what, maybe we could lend some extra insight.

Hands down powdercoating too me. I hate painting. Try a different powdercoater, if they are good, concientious, the holes should be plugged or masked and you should have to do a very minimum of cleanup work.
-
No, it is the difference between cleaning an engine of a car with spray on cleaner and rinsing it off, and spraying it with a steam jenny. Hands down the Steam jenny will bet it substantially cleaner.
Besides that, it is cheap, effective, repeatable, and easy. As far as maintenance things on your bike it just does not get any better.
As a side note, one of the other things that came up in the last discussion about this, was the possibility that the rapid heating and cooling cycle could cause any dispersed air to head on up the tube and out to the top of the master. That was a debated point.
Also, as you do this right after installation of pads, you are in effect seating, or matching the pads to the disc by the steady application, which also helps breaking effectiveness.
I myself believe it is a steam cleaning, but at some point, I just do not care, it has proven effective time and again for multiple people on troublesome brakes.

FWIW, I think you will quickly hit a wall on price / performance ratio, we are at such a point of diminishing returns on weight savings at this point, it almost get's funny. Heck, take the kickstand off of most bikes, and you saved as much weight as going to TI fasteners or the like. (this is just an example folks, I have not weighed everything out)
I myself like to tinker quite a bit, and have a son that rides and was in between sizes of bikes. I very seriously considered mating a Sherco 50 and 80 together, but as I sat down and looked at the costs involved, even though I consider myself committed to the sport and willing to spend some jack on the project, I could not even rationalize the money spent for the possible performance gains, and that was me doing the work with a helping hand from Sherco USA and RYP.
I guess my point is, I think you will be hard pressed to find a market for a substantially more expensive machine then what is currently available. Some folks will reach the extra 10 to 20% but I think you will be extremely hard pressed to find someone willing to double the money.
It sure would be neat too see though and as processes and practices become available, that is how progress is made.
I met a guy at one event that did Kevlar and Carbon fiber stuff for F1 as a business, I cannot remember what all he had made from CF and the like, but I can assure you their costs if you had to pay to have them made would have been in the ludicrous department, but it sure was cool.

Paul tried to e-mail you but it bounced back.
Maybe you could e-mail me at trialsalan at bellsouth dot net

It would be awful presumptious of anyone on here to second guess an expereinced mechanic with the bike in his hands.
Try and develop a relationship with them, and ask them to more fully explain and show how to check the various "symptoms" that you are seeing.
Fan's are pretty easy to check, ask them to show you how. I am sure they can also provide you the price of a fan if needed.
Also go on www.rypusa.com and read up all about your bike from the excellent library that is provided to you there.

We had a ride off at my last event between 2 of the experts, it got to be a tossup how to break the tie because I had done a shotgun start, and then they had decided not to start where they were supposed too anyway.
But, I will say, I like the "rideoff" resolution far better.
I think I had to add twists to the hardest section (that nobody in that class had cleaned all day and they both cleaned it in the rideoff) 3 times before we came out with a winner.. It really was fun and neat way to end it, and I felt a lot better as the trialmaster that the tie was broken that way.
At the Youth National Dean tied for first with points 2 days and lost the tiebreaker math both times. It is the way it goes, but that does not mean we have too like it.
-
Yep, sure does suck to be rider #2 but that is the breaks sometimes.
Did they both start on the same section?
-
As was said before you picked up your bike, get someone familiar with them to have a look and a listen. It is virtually, if not totally impossible, to describe in written words what is wrong, or even if there is anything wrong.
Get linked up with some other riders in your area. There seemed to be several that offered to help.
Get linked up with a good dealer close to you. You kind of end up hat in hand though because you did not buy your bike from one.
Those two groups of folks will make the experience a joy or a pain.
Did I just read in the fork seal post that you are rebuilding this engine? I thought you just bought this bike a week or two ago. Did it sound that bad then?
-
At least somebody got it.....
My humor is usually too obscure...
Thanks, it made my day.
-
Service with a smile, after all......
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaraunt...
Bah dum, dum dum....
-
BS, can you get more of a description?
I have heard of some folks doing it with Oxy Acetylene but they are bolder then I. The temp range would be so narrow between success and a miserable molten pile of aluminum and steel is just too narrow for my tastes.
Would be interested in seeing / hearing / whatever how someone else is going about doing it.
Is this the place?
