Errrr hello everyone
you know I said that the 6`- 4` cable wouldnt fit my camcorder....well after a slight bit more persuasion than i was giving it.....it fitted huh would you beleive it ...
Anyway ....done my copying now,4hrs of film to edit but while I was messing about ,I found something better to use to edit the files ,which came with `Nero` as part of the software to go with my new DVD Writer, which I found better than the one that came with the firewire card
Everythings going on DVDRW `s now ....I`ve only got half the discs I one had....
BTW ...good links those Ian ,Ive saved them in my favourites for when I get stuck next time
HAPPY NEW YEAR

Cheers kinell
Its a Panasonic NV - GS11
On the side its got the 2 connector ports ...one for the USB cable and the other says DV above it (which is the one I thought the firewire cable would fit into ...but is slightly the wrong shape)
Then on the front ...1 AV socket for the mini jack To 3 phono and a microphone socket .
As I`m writing this I`m looking over the thing ..its also got an S-Video socket (dont know if its in or out...but presume its out)
The software that I got with the firewire card looks really good ...and I presume that if the connector fitted ....would get excellent results ....dont know why it doesnt fit .
will try and post pics if it helps

After having an excellent rate of exchange while in the states,I bought myself a digital camcorder and saved myself a few quidcompared to buying it over here in the uk.
With already owning a digital camera and seeing (eventually) how good the images can be,I expected something similar of the camcorder.
When played using the supplied cable ,(which is a mini jack to 3 phono ...mini jack in camcorder - 3 phono into tv`s AV socket)the picture is excellent ... twice as good as our old analogue camcorder ....stereo sound aswel.
What I want to do is transfer all the `movies` to Disk to play on our DVD player rather than VHS cassette
The software they supply with the camcorder for the PC only lets you download and edit `still` images and not movies for some reason What the hell is that all about??????..all done through a USB connection. The still images are not a patch on what my camera does
My digital camera can download 170 better quality ,larger images through the same sort of connection ,so surely that cant be the reason.
I went out and bought a "Digital video editing kit" with help from my old friends at PC World ,thinking that this would solve my problem...."Create the ultimate home video" it said "ready to record to VCD"it went on
It was a firewire card and a `6 - 4` fire wire cable and software.I put everything together and guess what.....the connection doesnt fit my camcorder ???????.
I then tried the "TV card" that I used to transfer my old `analogue` handycam tapes onto my PC ,then copied the files onto Disk .....the result was a a very much reduced quality picture and a slightly distorted `mono` sound track
So...Does anybody out there know how to extract the digital movies from my camcorder with the quality that is seen when using the mini jack and 3 phono connection on my TV.
I would be very grateful

Ron - Would the "Suzuki" Pro Taper bars be an exact Replacement for the "Domino" bars that came stock on the 98 Techno.
just looked up the Dealer in Orlando Florida ,where I`ll be on holiday shortly, Priced at $89 ...seems a good price.

Not at all Andy It was an offer that I couldnt refuse to take from Thomas Cook
I would like to see what trials events are like for the ordinary clubman in other countries.Meet nice friendly people and maybe blag a ride on a bike or 2 to while I`m there.....
If its anything like other events that they put on over there ....should be pretty good.
Mr Dabster....I cant wait to go either...never mind the kids.

I`m off to Florida on the 11th of December till the 26th and wondered if there are any trials related events on around the Kissimee area during that time and any trials shops to look up also.
Its a family holiday so wife and kids will be tagging along if there is anything on....but she doesnt know yet, best left till the last minute and say "I`m sure I said something about it before we came".
I came back from working in Southern France a while ago and missed a really good event due to work commitments ....hope that wont happen this time.

started to strip the wires off as was told by Lampkins ,but....
using the electrical diagram in a photocopy of a manual someone sent to me,the wires are not the colours they are supposed to be and there are more wires than there should be.
eg. diagram says that 2 wires come from the fan ...one goes to regulator one goes to thermostat...but 3 wires come from fan
that is just an example
by having no replies ,I take it no-one has has had a problem taking the wires off before....Ah well

I rang Lampkins about the wires,They said to just take the loom off and it would leave 3 wires
2 Yellow ones
1 black
The 2 yellow should be joined up or the fan wont work
The black one just goes to an after market kill switch
can anyone confirm this pls

Pottering about with my 98 techno the other day and thought there was a lot of wires under the central plastics which made it quite bulky.I would like to make it easier to fault find and to maintain so want to get rid ,if possible.
There are no lights on my bike anymore ,but whoever took them off left all the wires behind.
anyone help me ,or know where I can get the info ,as to which wires I can take off without doing any harm...I did hear that certain wires have to stay on regardless of whether they are being used or not ,to prevent something or other happening

I`ve often wondered about torque settings .
All or most of the bolts on my 98 techno must have a setting but it doesnt give any in the manual, well.... in my manual anyway
I wouldve thought that some of the bolts settings to be very important. to gain a mention.
I suppose all Beta owners have to keep ringing up J.Lampkin
Dont know about other makes

thanks for the advice fellas
BTW - The key sheared straight across and not angled, so I`m assuming that it was sitting level as it should be.It must`ve been that I didnt torque it off correctly and the nut worked loose.
I`ll order 5 more and when I put it back together I`ll do all the checks to make sure its fitting correctly this time. Quite annoying, not to be able to ride because of such a small cheap part.
Ahh well ....You learn by your mistakes

I went out on my bike yesterday, but before I did ,I checked the electrics out ,cleaned all the terminals up and took the flywheel off and gave it a liberal spray of WD.
After 20 minutes of riding and being about a mile from my car, the bike cut out and wouldnt restart.I changed the plug but still it wouldnt start so I checked the spark.......no spark.Thoughts of what the hell have I done and why did I mess about with it if it wasnt broken were running through my mind.
I couldnt find the fault until I decided to check if I`d done anything behind the flywheel, when I took the cover off ,I could tell straight away...snapped woodruff key.The flywheel was just spinning and the nut to keep it tight was loose,I undid it by hand.
What the hell did I do wrong....I`ve taken the flywheel off and on many times to clean it ,and reassembled it in exactly the same way and never had a problem. If the key had snapped ,fair enough ,but for the nut to be loose aswel.
So,just to be sure, has anyone got a sure fire way of re-assembling the flywheel ,in case I`m not doing it right and have just been lucky the last 18 mths or so.
help is always very much appreciated.

Dont know if you got my mail `Hutchph998` but...I`ve just found out that I`m off to Toulouse on Monday for 5 weeks (working).
I`ve re-read the reply you wrote and fancy going to one of the trials and trials shops you mentioned,so any info would be appreciated before I leave, and ...if possible a contact number while I`m there, because I doubt I`ll have access to this site while away.

All very useful information

Just one thing about checking ,then deleting......on my small LCD screen on the camera...the pictures dont look blurred .Its only when I see them on my PC that I can tell

Cheers Andy
Its right about not costing money....but .....its costing some really good pictures which cant be taken again...My wife and I have ruined some really good one off pictures because of this

This digital camera is a pain......using the old 35mm was dead easy ....aim... click....picture
Took a few pics of my bike earlier...downloaded them ...and some the wife took at a party today...99% where blurred...( see below)..not the crystal clear images we where promised when we bought the camera
It seems that you have to hold the camera absolutely still for about 3 seconds to get a clear image....neigh on impossible for me without the aid of a tripod.

Sounds like a good idea about the card reader.
took the thing to "Boots" the chemist today to see if they could see the pics I took last night to verify that the card was ok......and it was ok.
I`ve sent an Email to Samsung customer help dept ....so I`ll wait on the answer to that (if I get one) before I get a card reader
thanks for the help

I`m running Windows XP and the internal memory runs perfectly with that.
I`ve tried everything I can think of....the camera reads the card ok ...I can edit the pics on it if I wanted...I even checked that the pics were going to the card and not the internal memory.
when I connect it to the PC with just internal memory ,the viewer programme opens it up straight away ....but when the card is in ....a box appears which says "auto play" and starts searching ...then stops ...box disappears ...then nothing. then when I disconnect the camera (using the remove device tool) the camera is locked up...I have to take the batteries out and reinstall them to unlock it
looked in "my computer" and it has the removeable drive there ,so its reading that its got the camera connected ....but no images
I did the device manager thing and it says "device is working properly"
so I did "trouble shoot" but that said it couldnt help
does it sound like a camera problem ....PC problem or card problem....Anyone got any ideas
