Yeah i tried running it direct from a car battery, in case the thermostat or bike wiring was at fault, but still sluggish and easily stalled, so i'm confident its the fan itself thats the problem. Thanks for the suggestion though
I've found a wiring scheme online for a 99 techno 250, which looks about the same as what i have on my bike. The black box i mentioned above is apparently the rectifier unit for the fan, and the resistor is in fact a condensor. Not sure if this can be bought seperately or if it just comes as part of the fan kit though :s
Has anyone ever stripped the laquer off the beta frame and polished it? mine looks crappy next to my mates polished gassers so i'm tempted to try it lol

A manual would be a huge help, especially if it has a wiring schematic . My headlight has no wires coming form it and it would be nice to get that working too Many thanks for confirming about the brake levers. It sucks to be the new guy - hate asking such basic stuff, but i'm a fast learner so hopefully it wont happen too frequently lol!

Tried bridging out the fan connection and its definitely dead. We even stripped and oiled it and although it started spinning, it ran really slowly and would stall with finger pressure.
Been looking around at aftermarket alternatives and Spal and Trical do similar sized units with better flow rates than the standard one for around

I've searched high and low for the answers to these questions, but have drawn a bit of a blank.....could be i'm not looking in the right places but the older beta bikes dont seem to have a lot of info kicking about.
Firstly, i broke the front brake lever today and have been looking on ebay for a new one, but all the ones i've come across specify for AJP type master cylinders. What the hell is an AJP type cylinder and how does it differ from a regular one? And is a 97 techno 250 fitted with one?
Secondly, my clutch is as grabby as hell at all times - pull in the clutch and the bike just keeps on rolling. I've tried all the 'freeing the clutch' techniques i've found on here without much joy - sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't. I know it might mean changing the clutch plates, but i've read that automatic trasmission fluid may sort this so i'd like to try that first, but i'm not sure what type to use....car? scooter? If someone could recommend a brand and viscosity it'd be a really big help as it makes it pretty hard to practice slow bike control when you cant control the bike.
Thirdly, the fan doesn't work which means i have to stop all the time to let it cool down or get my balls steamed. I know i can probably get one from Beta UK but moneys a little tight and to be honest i just cant afford a new one at the moment. Is there an alternative 'pattern' type i can use, or one from a crosser or similar that can be adapted to fit, that will be easier to find a second hand one from?
Lastly, does anyone know what the black block with the resistor and four pegs with attatched wires that sits under the water header is called and what does it do? Mines extremely corroded and the resistor broke off today. Looked on the Beta parts list but i'm not sure what its called so i dont really know what i'm looking for :s
If anyone can help me with the above it'd really help me out. Its really frustrating because all i want to do is get out there and practice - i've got 2 weeks holiday from work coming soon and it'd be nice to get it all running smoothly so i can make the most of the time off.
On the positive, the new carb i got sorted out the rough running i was having and the engine ticks over beautifully now.

I injured my lower back at work last year and did a course of physio. A couple of the things my physio recommended were pilates, and inner core stability training. Of the two, the pilates helped the most although i felt like a bit of a dick as the only guy in the class i went to lol!
8 months on and my back is pain free so its definitely worked out. Ibuprofen is a bad idea - its anti inflammatory but it'll mostly just mask the pain, which can make you think everythings hunky dory and make things worse by pushing your back when resting would probably be better. Some physio's do special consultation rates, and check you over to see whats needed....might pay you to see one.

I'm from Corsham, soo not too far from you. You ever ridden at the old Royal Arthur RAF base at Westwells? Some pretty decent terrain there.

A lot of people just assume if its on ebay it MUST be cheap and many sellers seem to use this assumption to charge over the odds prices. Not always the case, as this shows and it usually pays to have a good look around before parting with your hard earned. That said, i'm more used to sportsbike prices so the trials stuff always seems cheap to me......suzuki wanted 350 quid plus vat for a GSXR side fairing panel from me last year!

After a bit of searching i found that its a VM28 (left hand model). Discovered that the one on my bike has had a lashup repair done on it anyway - the bottom of the carb body has been cracked off where it meets the gasket to the float bowl, and has been sealed with silicone sealer. Not a great job really, and its seeping a bit. I sourced a supplier of these carbs and got a new old stock one for 56 quid delivered - will just need a rejet. Beta UK are looking for around 130 plus the vat i think for the same one, so a pretty decent saving. If anyone else needs one let me know and i'll give you the guys contact details

I live in M.O.D central lol - just outside Bath in Wiltshire, and there's a couple of derelict and abandoned bases within a short ride (5minutes). Its a good learning ground for me because its quiet, has a broad range of terrain, from inside buildings to woods and assault course tracks, and the police leave you alone to get on with it. a few of my mates ride there regularly so we'll hopefully be able to meet up there so i can pick up some stuff. I'm keen to learn bike control but its a steep learning curve without seeing how its done.
Stuff i've found wrong with my bike so far includes a sticky carb float, minor fire damage....probably caused by the sticky carb float at some point because it just drips fuel out randomly from the overflow, the header tank doesnt hold pressure because the thread on it is so mauled that the cap doesn't tighten down fully, clogged plug from too much 2stroke oil i suspect, and general visual shabbiness. None of this can dampen my enthusiasm though - i love a project and i'll soon have it fettled and looking presentable hopefully. The engines a belter though so its nt all doom and gloom

Hi All,
Apologies if this has been asked a million times before but i only had the bike a couple of days and i'm completely new to trials bikes. My carb appears to be in need of a strip and clean - dropped the bike earlier and the float appears to be sticking open.....steady stream of fuel from the overflow pipe on the carb bottom. I need to get a gasket kit or whatever to do this i expect but i'm not sure what model mikuni is fitted. Any suggestions gratefully recieved, plus any tips on setting it up

Hi all. Just stumbled across this site while looking for some info on my new (to me at least) Beta Techno 250. Thought i'd sign up and see what its all about I'm a total novice to the world of trials riding - got my first trials bike just last week! I got too envious of my 2 neighbors and their gas gas bikes, and seeing and hearing about the stuff they get up to and the apparent enjoyment they have on them was too much to ignore so i set about finding a cheapish starter bike to see what its like. I eventually picked up my '97 techno for the princely sum of 480 quid. She's been in the wars and has the scars to prove it but with a little tidying and setting up i think it'll be a sound bike Took it to my local abandoned army base today and gave it a shakedown.....quickly discovered that i'm no Dougie Lampkin, and that its much harder than skilled riders make it appear, but despite several pretty hard bails and some killer bruises i can confidently say i'm hooked - its the best fun i've had in ages!!!
Anyway, waffling a bit now, so a big hi to you all!!!
