+1 on this suggestion. A pneumatic impact wrench works great for taking them apart and putting them back together.
-
Thanks for the replies folks! I will be grooving mine this winter. I own a cabinet shop and was thinking about building a jig and grooving them on my table saw with a special blade. I will try the file first.
-
Broomy, Did you groove your own shoes? If so, could you describe how you did it? I would like to do the same with my new Wassell/Penton shoes.
Thanks

First thing that hit me was the rake. That's a serious angle for a Vintage bike. I love all of it though.
Beautiful work! Lots of thought. Bet the floor around your work area is wore out from just walking around it and staring. Can't wait to see some feedback on how it performs. Will it be done in time for any events this year?

Thanks Steve and cleanorbust.
Got my shoes in this week and am installing them today. The Lambretta shoes fit just like the stock shoes. The only difference being there is a 12mm steel sleeve in the holes of the OEM ones, and on the ones for the Lambretta there is just a 12mm hole drilled through the aluminum.
Perfect fit. Thanks again for the help. I was able to find them here in the states too, in PA.

Yes Steve, My shoes have a 12mm hole at one end. The plate has two poles fixed to it that the shoes slide over and are held in with circlips.
What did you have to do to alter the brake plate to make the Lambretta shoes fit? Or will they fit right off the shelf? Any part #s for the Lambretta shoes?
Thanks,
Gordon

Looking for new shoes for my Penton Mudlark. Not sure what the hubs are, other than OEM. I'm told Rickman Zundapp are the same and maybe REH. But I'm not sure.
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks

Here are some pictures from the Vintage event at the World Round in RI. Thought I had my camera set for (sport) but didn't, so they're a little blurry.

Spectators at section 6 on Saturday. Yes, it was amazing how many people came out to watch. And the buses to get them there were very well organized.
-
The start time for the Vintage Trials at the World Round has been changed from 4:00 to 3:00. And it will end at 6:00. Not much more time, but more than enough to finish 3 loops and get the folks to the Friday night banquet by 6:30. Please spread the word. Thanks,

This event is being put on for some Vintage bikes and riders to come out and have some fun, at somewhat of a last minute. We tried to keep it pretty simple and limited the classes to 3 and the sections to 3 lines. I'm sure we could have had more classes. But I learned a long time ago, no matter how many classes you have, someone will complain their bike should be in a different one.

Hi folks,
There will be another ahrma Trials at Unadilla's MX Rewind this year. June 5th. I am in need of checkers. If you are available, or have friends who can help, please let me know with a PM. The Trials is right after the CC race. Several people I know do both the CC race and the Trials, so there's time between events to make your way over. There will also be at least 1st place trophies for novice, intermediate and expert classes, for post 1979 air-cooled Trials bikes with drum brakes and twin shocks, even though this is a non points ahrma class.
Feel free to ask me any questions about the event. And please help out if you can.

Have had good luck with my steel Falcons as well. +1 on those.

Just out of curiosity, I have a Saracen frame set up for a Sachs motor. I would like to put a 175 Bantam in it. Probably a foolish question, but is this difficult to do? Hate to mess up the nickel plating with a lot of cutting and welding.
-
-
Very impressive. He makes that 250 look like a TY80. I wonder if he rides Vintage all the time or if he rides Modern and is able to convert his skills. Either way, the guy is very good and makes me want to get better.
-
Does the (69) in the frame number mean it is a 1969 model?
-
Thank you for the reply. My tank is fiberglass and my plan is to put a Sachs 12515A iron barrel in this bike. I have the same motor in a Penton Wassell and like it.
-
Hello,
I have what I believe is a Saracen Trials Bike. This is a project bike I will be working on slowly. It is set up for a Sachs motor. It has the orange tank, and fortunately, it is in excellent condition. The frame has a lot of tarnished green build up. But underneath, and wherever there was tape, the nickle plating seems to be in good shape.
Can anyone tell me what the frame numbers mean? Mine is 696055
Thank you,
Gordon

I guess I was thinking about the Penton Mudlark USA version versus the Wassell Bantum. It was the Penton like mine that only came with the high mount front fender.
-
Hello,
I have owned a Penton/Wassell Trials bike/Mudlark for a few years. In my research I have never seen a factory stock low fender mount. I believe they left the factory with the high mount and were altered by the buyer. Not sure you can see it in my avatar picture, but I used an aluminum fork brace for my mount. Very slim and works well. The MP forks have the ears on them to hold it also. I have also seen fender brackets that will allow a low mount. Matt Hildenburg (not sure of spelling) carries them.
If you would like a close up of mine, email me direct and I'll send you one. gabrennan@sbcglobal.net
Victor, if you have the iron barrel motor with a buch head instead of the radial head, you have a 5A. Or you have a 5B case cover on a 5A motor. The case cover has the number plate on it, not the motor.

Just saw this one on ebay.

I like that a lot!! I have a Saracen frame, tank, swingarm and Betor forks. My frame is set up for a Sachs, but I like the Hodaka idea.
