Hi folks, I posted this earlier this week, but for some reason it was taken off. I had one response and would like to hear from others. I am looking to replace my Amal carb with a Mikuni on my 73 Ossa Explorer / MAR. Can anyone aim me in the right direction as far as what size and model, as well as what size main and pilot jets. Also I would like to hear from people that have done this, and how it changed the throttle response.
Thanks

Don't mean to change the subject, but I wish I had your problem. It's difficult to find a trials event in New England, and you can forget about Vintage events. AHRMA, to my knowledge, doesn't have any trials in New England. I ride a 73 Ossa here, but have to ride the Modern B Line. Certainly not designed, with vintage bikes in mind. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have to decide which trials to go to on the weekend. You are very lucky, although I understand the financial end of your concern.

Hi folks, I'm looking to put a Mikuni on my 73 Explorer/MAR project. What size and model # should I be looking for? Also what size jets; Pilot and Main?
Thanks

I was at an event this past weekend and another competitor saw me draining my tank at the end of the day. I have been doing this since I restored an old Ossa Explorer. He told me he uses aviation fuel and has had no problems with it in his Ossa. Lead content is 4 parts per million, no ethanol and 100 octane. Anyone else tried aviation fuel out there?

Hey folks, Just watched a great winter time DVD of the Leroy Winters Memorial ISDT Reunion Ride. Loads of vintage bikes and an interview with Jim Holerich. Malcolm Smith and John Penton were there as well.
The DVD was very reasonable and is available by emailing Jay Duchin <jayduchin@comcast.net> Below is a link to a trailer for the movie.

Hi Folks, Hope you don't get tired of me asking these questions. The Bultaco deal fell through. Can someone tell me the difference between a 1972 Ossa MAR and a 1973 Ossa Explorer. They look the same. Are frame geometry, motor and gearing similar to the MAR. Would the 73 Explorer make a good trials bike. And if so, what would I need to change other than tank, seat and sprockets.
Thanks folks, Gordon

Peter, I agree with you, but holding out hasn't worked. The Sherpa's in the states are hard to find. At least the model and condition that I am looking for. My other reason for liking the Alpina is that I would like to run both the vintage hair scrambles and the vintage trials, at Vintage Motorcycle Days in Ohio, this summer. There's enough time between races, that it can be done with some good help in the pits.
Thanks, Gordon

OK folks, I am now looking at a 1978 Bultaco Alpina, model 213. Will this make a good trials bike? Other than changing the tank, seat and sprockets, is there anything else I can do?
Thanks, Gordon

I have found a 1978 Alpina 350, Model 213. Would this make a better choice? I would think I could get away with sprocket changes to begin with. And then look for a smaller tank and seat.

Hi Folks, Thanks for all the feed back. I am waiting on the model #s, but have the VIN # if that helps. PB13700550. I would assume seeing the 137 in the VIN, would make it a M137. And as feetupfun has advised, that model is the most removed from the Sherpa. That's unfortunate news. But that is why I posted this question. I want honest informed answers before I purchase a bike that might not be what I'm looking for.
Thanks, Gordon

Hi folks, I would like to know if a 1975 Bultaco Alpina 250 would make a good trials bike. If so, what are some things I should do to convert it?
Thanks, Gordon

Hi Folks, I'm looking for a disc brake conversion kit for my 85 Yamaha TY 350. I'm told they're out there, but have never seen one. Can anyone out there help me out. I'de be happy with just the front brake kit. Thanks.
