Thanks for the input. There are a complete set of NOS forks and yokes currently on EBay for a late Sherpa T: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...RTQ:MOTORS:1123 Do you know whether these would fit straight onto my '74 Sherpa Model 125? Thanks, Richard - Mexico City

Hi there, Have finished stripping down the front end of the recently acquired Sherpa type 125 and, as suspected, have found that the triple clamp is bent - is the triple clamp assembly unique to each particular type / model of Sherpa or if I find one from another model will this fit (I ask, since there is a complete triple tree from a '68 Sherpa currently advertised on EBay!). If the assembly is unique to this particular model, can somebody point me in the right direction regarding where to start looking for a suitable replacement? Thanks again in anticipation for your assistance. Regards, Richard - Mexico City

Thanks feetupfun for your input. I have done some more research on the Net and am now confused on another subject (be patient, I have only just boght the bike, so doubtless there will be many more inane questions from me!!). The frame on my bike appears to be different from that on another Model 125 that I have just seen for sale on E Bay - mine has a double tube cradle under the engine with a perforated metal sheet sump guard, as seen in the image below: The bike that is currently advertised for sale on E Bay, which from the frame number is also a model 125, appears to have a different frame configuration, with teh frame beneath the engine being in two halves, with a removable solid sump guard bolted between the two sections of the frame, as in the image below: Can anyone shed any light on this anomaly? Thanks, Richard - Mexico City

Hi there, I have just bought here in Mexico a Bultaco Sherpa, which the vendor was advertising as a 1971 Sherpa 250, but on inspection appears to be a 1974 Sherpa 350 (model 125). It was bought unseen (comparatively cheap, that is my excuse) and when it was delivered to me I discovered that the frame appears to have been repaired / strenthened on the downtube near the headstock. I have had a good look and cannot establish whether the frame fractured and was welded and braced, or whether it has been strengthened - I am inclined to believe the former, given that the forks are slightly bent, suggesting that it may have sustained a heavy frontal impact - the front rim still bears an Akront sticker suggesting it may have been replaced. I am attaching some photos depicting the frame near the headstock and would welcome any views / observations from forum members - is this a weak point on the model 125 frame? Also, my understanding is that the numbering for frames and engines used by Bultaco comprised the model number, then six digits - as will be seen from the images below, however, the frame and engine numbers appear to be one digit short. Thanks in advance for all your help. Richard - Mexico City

The first of a what I am sure will be a series of inane questions - I can only plead ignorance and ask for your understanding as a newbie. Just tried removing the gearbox drain plug to renew the oil and have not been able to shift it. It appears to be a nylon plug which is intended to be tightened manually, with access through a fairly restrictive hole in the engine bash plate - I cannot shift it by hand, and attempting to put some pliers on it to get more leverage, just resulted in part of the plug disintegrating - any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Mexbiker - Mexico City.

Just an update on the recently acquired Cota 348 MRR for those of you who have kindly offered advice and encouragement (great forum this!). Saturday starting in a harrowing fashion - went up into the mountains around my house on the outskirst of Mexico City on my Honda CRF230F (sorry!) with a group of mates as we do most weekends - stopped to admire the view looking down onto the city, only to see a rather large and menacing rattlesnake at my feet!!! Needless to say the ride back was a little tense, watching carefully before putting feet down - now that is a risk you don't run in Scotland, Spain, Oz, etc. Anyway, the weekend rapidly got better when, after cleaning the Cota, replacing all fluids and filling her up with pre-mix, she started on the fifth kick - not bad for a bike which has stood for seven years!! Special thanks to Greeves who stopped me stripping the motor down when it may not have been necessary - carb will need to come off for a good clean, but it looks as though I may have got myself a good deal with the 348 MRR. Once again, a huge thanks to everyone for their help and advice. Mexbiker - Mexico City

Thanks for all the useful data and advice - will get the chance to go over the bike in detail this weekend but in the meantime, having washed this I have noticed that the bike appears to have unusual front forks - excuse my ignorance, but the forks appear to be air filled, with valves for connecting a normal air line. From the photos of other Cota 348 MRR's and the technical specs I cannot see that these were standard fitment - am i missing something. Photos depicting the forks and triple tree are reproduced below: All advice and comments gratefully received and again an apology offered in advance for my ignorance!! Mexbiker - Mexico City

Hi there - new member, being a British expat currently resident in Mexico. Coincidentally, I too have just purchased here in Mexico a Montesa Cota 348 MR Replica. The bike has stood idle for 7 years but from what I can see is both complete and original, down to the miniature speedo on the right fork leg. The engine and frame number on mine are 51M 9740 which I understand makes it a 1976 model. I only picked the bike up yesterday, so have not had a chance to go over it in detail, but the engine appears to turn over and has compression and it appears to move through the gears ok. What would you suggest I need to do to the bike - would I be risking anything by merely changing all the fluids and trying to start her? I suspect that if she has sat for 7 years the crank seals will need replacement - what else should I focus attention on. What I am desperately in need of is a workshop manual - i have managed to find a download the owners manual and parts manual, but does a workshop manual for this model exist (I have the clymer manual covering all 123cc to 360cc models, but only up to 1975 which does not appear to cover the Cota 348). One final question, the final silencer on the exhaust appears, from what I can see from my limited research, to have come off the Cota 348 Trail - does this look right. All comments and suggestions would be gratefully received!! Thanks, Richard - Mexico City
