  1. My head gasket is .5mm. Motor just rebuilt so I should be good there, felt stronger today, maybe a bit of runnin is needed???. I'll double check the timing. Starts first kick. I don't have the compression that you're talking about but it's a fairly strong kick required. I have Rock shocks on, so far I'm pleasantly surprised at how good the back end is. Front end still needs to be dialed in. Totally different bike from my MAR cheers
  2. good to know that the cush weight is standard, I'll look more at the jetting and exhaust etc. Seems to have a blast of power around midrange so I've got some sorting to do. Using a OKO 28 which worked well on my 250 Mar and a friends 350 MAR. thanks
  3. I've rebuilt the motor and was surprised to see such a large counter weight / flywheel on the cush drive. My 1972 Mar 250 has no counter weight. Any one experimented with removing or reducing this extra weight? Looking at it it almost strikes me that it's a factory add on for those who wanted to tame the bike in the day? bike runs fine, just looking to put a bit of snap into it. this seems to be an obvious but need to get a little insight first. cheers

    Bernie's Book

I have Don Smith's book "Ride It" and Bernie's book, no better way to understand where trials came from in the 60's and 70's and early 80's. I still refer to both books today. cheers

    Cabestany 07 290

If my memory serves me it's 5/8 to 3/4 turns out at sea level at standard jetting, give or take an 1/8 turn on any given day. as copy says, must have a fuel filter, the pilots plug easily. cheers
  16. I've have used Falcons and presently using Rock Shocks. I like the Rocks better and what's most important is you can adjust damping yourself with a little knowledge. They're also totally rebuildable by yourself. I was able to dial them in to what I liked which was quite a bit different from the way they came standard. Suspension is about your bike and what you want it to feel like. The standard shock may be the same for a MAR and Fantic but how a rider may dial them in to suit each bike and their individual taste could be quite different. Rocks are aluminum and light, I think you can get aluminum falcons. cheers bob
  17. Hi all just acquired a 1990 tr34/alp 260. are there an parts manuals or specs around. To start I need to know fork oil wt and amount? Front end is too soft with little or no damping. any help much appreciated bob
  18. yes metisse, I have a practice area at my house and many riders new and not so new come to ride, did two motorcycle shows this winter and of course i talk to many people interested in a trials bike. The main or common negaitve feedback I get is poggostick riding, dangerous and no seat. People simply can't relate to trials or the bikes, except if they're from a bicycle trials background or their dad used to do trials. The price of bikes is climbing, and the market is shrinking. just look at the price of the montesa, greeves and my guess the new ossa for a start... Lower the costs of the world rounds to the manufacturers somehow, that will lower costs of the bikes (my math has it that bike prices are at least $1500 higher to support a world round team, bring the sport back to where people can relate and enjoy. i had a friend ride a world round bike and said it was extremely powerfull with a on / off clutch, no comparison to a production bike. A few small adjustments fy the FIM could make a big difference. cheers bob
  19. Hi all again: Forgot to mention what originally started me thinking about this way back when in 2008 I think. It was an article by Sammy Miller. I agreed with with him then and still do now. cheers bob
  20. Hi all F1 has struggled to keep going and made many changes to keep Teams and sport alive. Trials or the FIM should take a look at this. Here's some suggestions or topics areas for trials: Maximum engine displacement of 250 cc Minimum weight of 155 lbs at tech inspection - 70 kgs Minimum seat height of 30 inches FI, programmable and 2 or 3 map ignitions banned - (have you ever priced this stuff out?) Production models must be used in competition by world round riders. results: - a bike that the public can better identify with much lower manufacturing costs and R&D sections difficulty will have to adapt to lower power and heavier bike. (world level) lower bike costs for the customers, trials target market will grow, trials will grow, manufacturers won't have struggle to stay in business. cheers bob

Hi Nigel I do know that Australia, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Iran, Japan, Canada, UK, South Africa to name a few are importing. US is maybe soon to come, that's a secret . We only have about 500 competitive riders in Canada but I am very happy with my sales, I'm on my second order for 2010 and western Canada is opening up . The bigger market in Canada is the X-trainers and pleasure riders, it's probably that way everywhere. Havensport in the UK are selling XiSPA's and I do know the importer exists. I'm told there are two brands warning off dealers around the world (if you sell XiSPA they will not supply their brands). Short term that works, long term my guess it won't. side note: if a brand runs a world rider and team then they will easily need to raise their base price by $1000 to $1500 per bike. that's just the math part of it. The second XiSPA fields a world rider and team you will see the price raise dramatically. Bou, Raga, Caby, Fuji, etc and their teams are all paid by the punters. Trouble is these guys ride at a level now that no one can relate to and many are scared off by. (I can't ride like a poggo stick, it's too dangerous and i need a seat for trail riding, is what I hear from my perspective customers) I am trying to stay on Andy's good side so everyone take my posts with a grain of salt as a view's from a dealer / importer. I'm simply adding my perspective. best regards (long answer to short question) bob

Hi Joe Kick lever is good now and doesn't touch the frame, 2010's have a new shock with more adjustability. The bikes runs great so I think maybe you had carby issues. I haven't had enough time on a 2010 to say anything yet but I do "see" the impovements I was looking for. I've ridden and seen the bike in about 15 events so far and a lot of pleasure riding. best regards bob

well, well, well - the 2010 has a new shock, 09's tended to be soft with 16 stone riders, not sure about 13 stone as that's my weight an I have no issues. What was your damping adjustment set at? - I have had no issues with the forks - can't help there but I would have definitely liked you to demonstrate what you claim. - kickstart levers have been replaced on warranty, issue resolved - Keihin / OKO carbs need a fuel filter otherwise the pilot will plug continuously, my bikes start second kick every time from right out of the box and run very well. ($4) resolution and clean your carb - plastics (are durable) and decals are very good compared and a little armorall after a wash bring it back to new. Am I right in reading that you only had the bike for a week? Did you really even try to sort out any of the issues. Sad that you lost that much money in a week. Now, I read on another thread in the "general area" about the price of mudguards and their durability from another brand. Do your homework and investigate what a XiSPA mudguard spare is and how they fair with durability. I've broken one mudguard on a sub zero day bashing it off a rock. I've seen them put through a lot and have not seen one other broken. All my decals are like new. I will guarantee you the other XiSPA spares are very reasonable also. I'm looking at this customer/rider from a dealer/importer prospective (cause I am) and what experience I have had and feedback from other dealers and importers from other countries. I am a dealer / importer so read my post with caution cause my glass is half full. cheers bob
  25. Hi Matt I treated my Ossa tank to Caswells this winter, click me - the tip came from another thread on this site. I beleive Shell premium has no ethonal but i could be wrong on that. I'm near Cambridge ON. cheers bob
