  1. how much weight are you saving with the s3 pipe on a 290? cheers
  2. sooooo - all great info - sherco250, how did you make out with your carb issue, what have you tried? cheers
  3. all the forums i've been on, motorcycle / truck / car etc they have a pre check list plus a basic run down of your set up. this helps the experts, (not me) help that person. also, alot of people just want to get back to riding. i've never seen where is stops dialoge, but it does help the person in need and the repeated posts of did you check this or check that. i.e. i'm running this setup, i've checked all this out, my symptoms are this, i have a trial tomorrow, help me please. i'll bet you the guy gets to his problem quicker. it's just a "suggested" list to help people self diagnose cheers
  4. I couldn't find anywhere a list of "suggested" checks and recordings before posting with running etc issues. It might help others help you. By all means add to the list, I can summarize in a final post for one stop shopping or you can just post. Suggested checks and recordings before posting: 1. Gas cap air vent clear 2. Fresh high octane (mixed 2t) gas 3. Pet cock, petcock screen, gas line, any gas filter clear / run gas through to visually check flow 4. Carb checks a. Fuel line screen b. Remove and clean / check all jets
  5. well, after reading your post i thought you might like to know what the factory caby setup is. you've done some real nice testing there, i'm glad it might give you and sherco250 an alternative to test out. i can't imagine my bike running any better, i have no need to touch anything in the carb. if you ever get to testing the caby setup out i'd be interested to hear your thoughts. it's interesting that sherco has set up both the 2t and 4t keihins where the air screw is turned out to around 3/4. i've read where the norm is around 11/2??? regardless, both bikes run well from the factory. cheers
  6. my 07 caby factory kiehin setup is: (i was told they are pauxa tuned???) existing manifold 122 main 45 pilot JFH needle on second clip from top 5/8 turn out air screw slide measures 3.5 mm (stamped #4 on bottom) i think the only difference from a 08 is the 07 caby has a different head i tried boysens but is didn't run right and i wasn't interested in changing jets at that time. cheers
  7. pilot jet needs cleaning cheers
  8. sherco250 - any update?? cheers
  9. well, i know this sounds "too" simple but i've seen this on a number of trials bikes, have you tried just running it wot in 5th for a long stretch to heat up the muffler and blow/burn out all the crap. you've done the air filter and carb but i didn't see if you had cleared it out with a good hard run. it a realitivley new bike so maybe running a "run in" oil mixture has gunked it up??? cheers
  10. here's a place to start - click me cheers
  11. the sherco home page calls it a "thermodynamic cylinder head"??? be nice to know for sure what that means, i thought it was hi compression?? cheers
  12. i have an 07 caby, i have had the timing set in positions of factory, -1mm, -2.5mm and -5mm, it has not kicked back once ever, i guess the differences in our bikes is keihin carb and hicomp head, still running stock reeds, just thought i'd let you know...oh, btw, i'm currently at -2.5mm and finding it a good mix, stock and -1mm was too much power for me. cheers
  13. copied from sherco usa manuals: 23. With a razor, thoroughlyclean off allresidue of all gaskets on inside and outsides of cases and the bottom of the cylinder, but especially around the intake manifold area of the cases. 24. Using parts washer and contact cleaner on a rag, clean cases 25. Wire brush rusty cylinder studs, spray with WD40 26. Clean all bolts before reinstallation Reinstallation, General Tips 1. As a general rule, when reassembling any motorcycle, alwaysreplace all gaskets, O-rings, cotter pins, piston pin clips, lock washers, snap rings, etc.. 2. When torquing bolts, nuts or screws, start with the larger-diameter or inner fasteners, and tighten them to the specified torque using a criss-cross (star) pattern. 3. Clean all parts after dismantling, and when reassembling, coat all sliding surfaces with the same type of lubricant that will be used during the operation of the engine. 4. After reassembling, check to be sure that each part is securely tightened. cheers

    07 Caby Suggestions

i'll check the jets out, i was surprised to find it at .5 turns myself, in checking it out it's right on the edge of when the engine note and running changes, i'm assuming the factory purposely set it that way . i had previously checked the plug and it was med to dark tan running 70:1 and taking it easy for breakin. i'll defintely now try backing it out a bit to see the difference. cheers add: jets are 45/122, anything less or more on the mix screw and it doesn't run right, i'll continue to experiment with 1/8 turns out but for now the bike runs great

    07 Caby Suggestions

your probably right, i did turn the mixture screw out a full extra turn from the factory half turn, maybe i didn't do it enough. i have no experience with keihins, i decided that if i needed to get into rejetting and fiddling too much i'd just go back to factory setting as i was very happy with the way it ran. i'm very happy with the way everything is right now i think i'll just see if i can learn how ride cheers

    07 Caby Suggestions

hi mark, well, i did retard the timing 5mm and installed a slow throttle and was very happy on map 1, could put it to map 2 if i wanted more. i tried the boyesens reeds and it was not good at all. low end power was poor, did not run well and even the exhaust note changed. put the standard reed back in and it was great again. i guess it is either retard the timing "or" install boyesens. but doing both was not good??? cheers bob
  18. yep, kick stand in an 08 add on, everything else is standard 07 caby cheers

    07 Caby Suggestions

i had the boysen's in my 2.5 sherco a really liked the change, i will definitely make that change once it's broken in and i get a good feel for how the bike is at the current setup. my timing was factory set at almost full advance so we did retard the timing about 5mm which places it mid tab, and installed a slow throttle for a starting point. seems to have brought the caby allot closer to my 2.5 but with more tourque and a little more hp of course, but very manageable from my first impressions. after it's broken in , boy is everything tight, i'll start to dial the bike up as i start to look for more power. i'm just getting back into riding so i'm going to error on the conservative trying to rebuild my confidence. i can alway hit the "map 2" , i just wonder how many degrees it advances the timing? maybe 2 degrees??? cheers
  20. just purchased an 07 caby, now that the 07's (standard or caby) have been around for a while any suggested changes once broken in. to start off i'm retarding the timing and fitting a slow throttle. if and when i want more engine i know where to get it i've searched mosts of the posts but now that the bike has been around a bit it's worth tapping into your valuable experience. cheers
  21. i know this thread has changed a little from the initial question, the above comment is on the mark. anything you can do to exercise close to real world in a controlled fashion will benenfit much more. i've had 7 left knee operations of various kinds over the last 30 years and lots of experience with doing many different sporting activities in that time on a bad knee. small things i do may help: 1. always warm up 2. always stretch after warming up 3. ensure you remain stretched out during the day 4. always ice after riding, pain or no pain to limit any potential inflammation, inflammation of course is your enemy! 5. don't over use, take days off to heal, stretch ever day regardless 6. braces are a stop gap measure, get rid as soon as you can 7. my bible for knees, i like the Home Care and Prevention pages link cheers
  22. the original olle shock dampening seems very slow on my 1999 sherco 250. i've tried the standard and heavier spring at different preloads but just can't get it where i'm comfortable. i am considering replacing the shock as the bike is in very good condition otherwise. the trp lists shocks for 01 to 07. is the 01 the same fitting as the 99? not sure about ohlins if they would fit or what the model number would be? is it 36dr? any suggestions would be appreciated. i just getting back into trials and looking to update the bike a bit, also i like to tinker, part of the fun? (i did put new carbon boysen reed in which made nice difference in power delivery).
  23. did you order a trp shock and from where at what price? cheers
