  1. Have a look at the thread "Ty175 Silencer and Reeds" further down the Yamaha forum. Some good info in there.
  2. That Yellow Majesty is a stunning bike - I want it. How much? Does anyone know anything about the fuel cap breather on it? Is it the "Zeta Uni Flow Cap"? Does it fit on a standard TY175 fuel cap? I won't be able to afford the bike but maybe I could have the bling breather on my bike? Cheers
  3. Thanks. I have got stuff from these guys a couple of times and had brilliant service (even to New Zealand). John is very helpful. But I'm not sure if I'm cheeky enough to ring (or email) him and start asking advice about a second hand part I got somewhere else? Some day I hope to buy lots more from them (gear shift repair kit, electronic ignition, etc, etc) but the way our $ is at the moment - ouch.
  4. So I finally got started on fitting the Sammy Miller tail pipe and it doesn't fit. The "S" bend that goes around the back of the rear shock is too shallow and it fouls the shock. I have talked to a number of exhaust places and they don't really want to know as; 1. It's Aluminium and it'll work harden and break 2. It's already got bends in it and won't fit in any benders Has anyone else had this sort of issue and if so how did you fix the problem? I may have to get something fabricated and welded on which'll end up costing me more that I paid for the silencer? Maybe I should sell it and get one of those sexy WES one piece jobbies from JK Hirst? Any help greatly appreciated.
  5. Thanks for the reply. Good idea to note where the settings are at before I play with it. I am of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school but I couldn't resist these parts as I got them for a good price. Hopefully I won't put them on, not get it all to work properley and then take them off, return it to standard and have to sell the bits.
  6. Thanks for your reply Andy. The TY is running nicely at the moment and I am worried that putting the "trick" bits on may upset things. I'll research on the interweb for info on which screws to twist and why.
  7. I have just bought a second hand Sammy Miller silencer and some Boyesen reeds for my otherwise standard TY175. Has anyone else fitted similar and what changes did you have to make (if any) to the carb settings? Were any jetting changes required? Carbs are a dark art to me and any help will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll be able to understand it.
  8. Yes it is. My problem is too many bikes at the moment - but when I see what looks like a good deal I get very tempted. I might have a look in the week if it hasn't gone. At least then I'll know what else is needed.
  9. Hi All One of these is for sale in my area. I ride old trials bikes (TY175 & TLM200) and don't know much about these modern bikes. The price seems reasonable. Are they any good (compared to other bikes of same vintage)? Any known problems? Reliability issues? It could be the start of my modern trials career? Thanks in advance for any info or comment.
  10. Thanks for your input. I have no excuses for a crap score if it's a pukka trials bike. Cheers.
  11. How does Batmans Mum call him in for dinner? Dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner Batman
  12. Thanks for the reply. Interesting that you reckon the R is a trail version. Mine has nothing that gives off a trail feel - tall gearing, bigger seat etc. Maybe it's been trialized (that must be a real word?)? I figured very little would go wrong with it - it is a Honda. My rear gaurd has been plastic welded and I can put up with it. I've already ordered a "Gonelli" front mud guard to replace the standard, shattered one. I'll look at the air box mod but it already has so much low down grunt (mind you I am comparing it to my old TY175) that I'm not sure more power is what I need. It's great to know there are others out there.
  13. Hi All. I tried posting this in the air cooled mono section and got no answers. This area seems to be all about the four strokes but I thought I'd give it a go. I have just bought one of these. Is there a difference between a TLM 200R and a TLM 200 (do they both exist?)?. Are there any good websites for info on this bike? I'd like to find out about any potential problems/issues and any easy, cheap worthwhile mods, and access to spares. Does anyone else have one because at the moment I feel like an outcast? Thanks in advance for any help/info/views about this bike.
  14. Hi All. I have just bought one of these. Is there a difference between a TLM 200R and a TLM 200 (do they both exist?)?. The guy I bought it off ran it pre mix at 40:1. What is factory ratio? I run my other bikes at 50:1 - would the TLM be OK at this ratio? It would save me having two batches around. Are there any good websites for info on this bike? I'd like to find out about any potential problems/issues and any easy, cheap worthwhile mods. I'm used to a TY175 and this thing has enormous instant grunt compared to the Yam. Should be interesting. Should I have posted in the Honda section (it did seem to be all about TLR version in there)? Thanks in advance for any help/info.
  15. Hi all. Has anyone fitted Boyesen reeds on their TY175? If so did it make much difference and what difference (bottom end, top end etc.)? Did you have to change anything else (jetting?)? I know guys with moto X bikes that reckon these are a must have. Cheers.
  16. Thanks for the reply. The bike is for sale on a New Zealand auction site (poor mans Ebay) - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=158337971 The airbox thing sounds like a hassle, I bet someone has details on how to modify it to make things simpler? Cheers.
  17. There is one for sale near me. Are (or were?) they any good? Any known weak points? I'm a novice rider that's been riding twinshock bikes (TY, KT and Cota) looking for something to play on in "modern trials" on the easy route. Cheers
  18. Good advice and I'm working on it. As for the ratio thing I'll stick with 52/13. Probably more important to shed a few kilos off me - I think the bike would appreciate it.
  19. Thanks for your comments. I didn't mention the weight saving - smaller sprockets=less metal and less links in the chain therefore less weight. With the hundred or so grams that'll save it means I can have a couple of extra Mars bars and the bike will still perform as well.
  20. My TY175 is currently running 52 teeth rear and 13 teeth front. 4:1 ratio. I know standard is 51/13. I am happy with how the bike goes for the type of riding I do (twinshock trials). My sprockets are getting near the end and I am wondering if I replace them with a 48 teeth rear and 12 teeth front (still 4:1 ratio) will the shorter chain and wheelbase make any noticeable difference? My guess is that the few links less in the chain won't be noticeable? Shorter wheelbase may affect things but how? Sprocket wear will be greater due to less teeth to share the work? Is a 48T available anyway? What are you running on yours? Am I over thinking this? Comments, advice, etc appreciated. Cheers.
  21. Thanks for the information.
  22. Has anyone got an idea what parts I'll need for a top end rebuild (piston, rings, gudgeon etc), what they'll cost (rough idea - especially if you've done it recently), and where I can get them (don't mind purchasing from USA, UK)? Cheers
  23. Thanks for the replies. Carb is coming apart over Easter, will also put in a new plug. I'll run it on 50:1 on a good synthetic oil. Cheers Ian
  24. Kill button doesn't seem to be the problem. Leave it overnight and it fires up first kick, runs for about 5 seconds then conks out. I tried swearing at it but it didn't make any difference. Maybe I have to swear in Japanese? looks like the carb is coming apart this weekend.
