  1. I suggest you try 375 cc of cheap ATF-F. (Cheap makes it easy on the wallet to dump often and works fine) I have a email into my buddy for the Jitsie part number. Another rider who uses them reminded me that the change isnt night and day - but is an improvement.
  2. The thicker the pak - the lower the fingers will be. What oil are you using? ATF-F will give the hardest bite. If its cold out, you will get more drag. for less drag, make sure you dont fill more than 1/2 up the site glass. (375cc - but change it often) Some of the local GG expert riders here are all changing to the Jitsie levers to make for a slightly faster clutch. (I have no personal experience with this mod, but can find out more if you like - but they swear by them) If you really wanted it even harder engagement - you could try a 05 spring. (20% stiffer)But would have a correspondingly harder pull. (like the Sherco IMO)
  3. Your right - I think the 28mm is better suited for the bigger bikes. I do have a buddy who uses it on his 250 and it works well, but not sure I would have to have one on a 250. The OKO and Dellorto VHST are both good (26mm's) alternatives on the 250.
  4. While the Stock Dellorto PHBL is a great OEM carb, The keihin is a nice upgrade IMHO on a 280 or 300. The bottom end is much smoother and cleaner with the Keihin (especially on a 300) The Keihin has a much more advanced Pilot circuit and I feel is the reason for the gain. It also revs out higher due to its increased size and design. I do agree that there is a downside. The pilot can clog easier and I personally think the independent floats on the Dell is a great idea for trials. Only you can decide if you prefer the tradeoffs or not - but many prefer the Keihin.

    fan staying on?

If its your temp switch - change it. Trials bike fans are expensive. You will wear out your fan bearings much quicker if left on all the time, as well as have a bike running at a lower temp than it was designed to.
  6. Just like rudolf - GG is always made fun of from the other bike brands and has a very red frame. But we all know who Santa's favorite is dont we...
  7. From the online photos - he's running what looks to be a Reiger. It is most probably custom valved&sprung specifically for him by factory suspension engineers- as is the case with all the top riders. This makes sense to me as his/there needs are different than 99.99% of the trials market. That said, if it was a marketing ploy, they should do a few more like it as that shock is simply fantastic. Better than the old Ohlins gold bodies and a Home run IMHO.
  8. I hope they showed you the proper method to kickstart the bike. If you slap at it, and kick wildly, you can damage the KS pawl and Idler gear. GGUK might cover it as its new, but they could claim its user damage. It happens! Video on how to KS a trials bike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdM4qkAqywk&feature=channel_page
  9. Stay away from the Ti S3's - they are very light duty and easily break. Mine lasted alittle over 1 season. Bought the Raptors and really like how they feel. Much heavier duty as far as I can tell.
  10. Sorry - Mis read your post. Thought you said light - not tight. Curt is right - 06+ has a lighter spring.
  11. If you dont put the thick plate in 1st, you will get a light pull. (and maybe some slip)
  12. There actually is a factory rubber doohicky that ships with the GG's. I always wondered what it was. Finally asked and found out it was a footpeg stop. Ive never seen anyone use one.
  13. Your argument doesn't hold water. If fact, I think you just made a great case for the WTC's sales influence. Montesa would probably be a top selling bike if they sold a bike that was even close in capability to what that Bou rides and were priced competitively. They arent and they dont. Everyone knows they are one off's and might as well be made buy a different brand - oh wait - they are! Just look at the popularity of the many replica bikes from GG (Raga and Race), OSSA (Fajardo), BETA (factory) and SHERCO (Cab and Pax). These companies are sales driven and respond to what there customers want.
  14. Its really just a matter of value and preference. Its best to have a good ride on both bikes and see which one grabs you. Both bikes have extremely high capability, so its more about you. Do you prefer the clutch on one vs the other? The feel of the rider compartment. Are you more confident on one vs the other? I would also factor in what bike has the best local support as a secondary consideration. Additionally, I prefer to buy bikes that have been gently ridden - usually more senior riders that compete in a lower class and dont ride much.
  15. If your observers cant tell time, how in "bloody hell" will they be able to deal with all the extra difficulty of no stop rules and logistics. Actually, you don't even need to tell time - you just press a button and listen for the buzzer. IMHO, I dont see this panning out in the long run. For one thing, the recent trend for most sports in general has been to get more extreme - not less. Just look at how popular the last man standing Enduros have become. I think no stop works with events like the SSDT as they are brutal to just finish and fit the extreme sense of accomplishment bill.
  16. Louise Bio here. http://www.life-shows.com/life-shows.com/The_Rider.html Way To Go LOUISE! Your Awesome!
  17. If you really want to try it - both Arrow and S3 make long/short Ti header pipes for the GG's.

    Levers

All the levers Ive tried were alittle different than the AJP's.
  19. Im no expert, but unsprung weight would be the 1st thing that comes to my mind. The large mass at the rear of the bike, exposure to the elements, Shock and vibration.... a 2wd configuration might be interesting if you did make one.
  20. You should refer to the specific clubs website for your exact spcifics, but here is a general guideline for trials in our organization in the USA. Might give you some ideas or at least some things to consider before the event. Im sure all the specifics will vary! Getting started Doc
  21. I was also wondering why they didn't just add a few more batteries to make it legal. Price? Space? Future reg changes? Also - where's the clutch? Kind of disappointed to see it omitted.
  22. I think some people here feel the same way and I has seen a local uptick in twin shock interest so that opens up options for the sport. It also appears that most of the twin shock competitors have a modern bike as well - so they get to experience and enjoy both worlds. As I mentioned previously, if many people feel the quality of a product is poor, I doubt that mfg will survive. If its over priced - it wont survive either. I think your argument belongs more in the stop vs no stop debate. I see that as a different argument, but my opinion is similar. Have both.
  23. Your right about the past, but I think they can learn from the mistakes and do it better. Never-the less, the aim would be to get riders on nearly stock bikes. The argument for the one off bikes used to be so that the technology could be tested and readied for future production; Sounds goods, but some mfg's developed bikes that were never intended to be sold publicly. Currently, with established companys offering "reasonably" priced replica bikes and brand new company's offering cutting edge designs and leading edge technology right from the get go - I dont see a need for any limits on the bike other than making sure its not an unobtainable ride to the rest of the world.
  24. IMO - they should get rid of the min weight rule, but have a claim rule to ensure they ride what the public can buy. Might make the WTC more competitive as well.
