  1. Hi Wobbler, maybe it's worth to check these too: Solomontesa Iv
  2. Japanese trials bikes haven't been popular here in Finland, perhaps due to the hard natural conditions in our country. Simplicity has been more important than sophistication. PS. Yrj
  3. Thanks Woody but I do have the original Owner's Book with Parts Book. I'm looking for a repair book if I'll some time have to repair the engine. However it's written in the Manual that The Montesa motorcycle --- do not require an excessive care for maintenence, only a minimum attention is required to insure a long and perfect serviceable time.
  4. I just found out that Cota 348 is not featured because it was not produced - 1975. It seems that there's no available Clymer or any repair manual for Cota 348.

    Instead Of Amal?

Thanks JSE for info. Maybe have to try some flat slide carb too. Any ideas on which one of them is the best - OKO, Mikuni or Keihin? (OKO is obviously a copy of Keihin?)

    Carbs !

Hi Lee, there are so many classic trial sites, could you please give an address or something? Thanks.

    Carbs !

Hi axulsuv, I see you are pleased with a flatslide carb. I've thougt about if flatslide carbs will work on older twinshocks (I have a Montesa Cota 348). Could you please tell more about your experiences?

    Instead Of Amal?

Obviously flatslide carbs are not legal to use for example on Cota 348 there in the USA? If they however are legal in some country, is it worth to try them? Does flatslide carb work better than roundslide carb on twinshock trial bike? I've heard that they do work fine with full throttle (motocross, classic TT) but not so fine with low rpm. axulsuv is very pleased with OKO flatslide carb on his twinshock Fantic (Fantic > "Carb! Swap from delorto to OKO").

    Instead Of Amal?

Thanks MichaelMoore and hr1. I'll use Mikuni or Keihin on my 348 and will leave my Amal Mk2 for the historians.

    Instead Of Amal?

Thanks, MichaelMoore, I'll do as you suggest. (Maybe some guy after me wants to restore "ex-Jaan bike", then he has an Amal. ) It seems to me that the body of my Amal (Made in Spain) is aluminum and the slide zinc. However I'm not any metallurgist.

    Instead Of Amal?

How about Bing Carbs? They are obviously used on some spanish trial bikes. Are they German or Spain made?

    Instead Of Amal?

I have now on the bike an Amal 2627 (Made in Spain). The slide was worn out but I have ordered a new one. The bottom rubber seal of the choke plunger was a little bit worn so I ordered it too. The first owner of the bike said that he has had problems with cold starting. I have too a new Keihin 28 mm and an older Mikuni 28 mm. Thus I could try which of them works best. However I have no ideas about the good jetting of Keihin and Mikuni. I'd really appreciate, hrc1, if you could look at the jetting of your Mikuni.
  13. Which Carb and what size is worth to try for Montesa Cota 348 - instead of Amal?
  14. In my Cota 348 there's no kind of chain tensioner. However chain tensioners for 348 are available. Do I need a that one?

    Rear shocks?

The chrome springs of the original Betor shocks are badly rusted so obviously I have to get new shocks for my Montesa Cota 348. What shocks work quite well but are not very expensive? How important is the rebuildability? I think it's however quite expensive for me to get the shocks rebuilded abroad and I suppose the finnish shock repairmen don't have spare parts for this kind of shocks.

    Decompressor?

Is it useful to mount a Decompressor to my Montesa Cota? In your opinion, what kind of advantages I'll get? Any problems? FRANCE TRIAL has Decompressor kits (49,80e).
  17. Thank you Ed for a very good link! They have two kind of fork oil seals for 348: 35x47x7/9 and 35x47x10. What does mean this "7/9"? (Of course I could ask this from France Trial but don't want to let them know that I'm just a greenhorn!)
  18. Anyone here knows the right size of Montesa Cota 348 fork oil seals? Mine worn out seals are 35x47x7 but I'm not sure about the 7 mm. Where to get the new ones?
  19. Anyone know where to get a good decompressor for my Montesa Cota 348?
  20. Hugh's Bultaco sells 28 mm Flat Slide Mikunis too, have you tried them? Are they much better than round slide Mikunis?
  21. Thank you very much! Pyramid Parts really have those bearings and they are affordable priced!
  22. Anyone know where to get tapered roller steering bearings for Montesa Cota 348? They should be 25 x 45 x 11 (or 12). (The standard size is 25 x 47.)
  23. Thanks for info and good hints!
