After some more research I see that I do have a few events that aren't too terribly far away. I definitely want a real trials bike, not a T-Ride or Alp, because I want to learn to do tricks that are only possible on a trials bike. Also, now that I know that there are some events semi-close I will probably enter some of them as well. I really like the look of the Shercos and have found an '09 Access 2.9 that is in my price range, but the Shercos aren't getting any love as trail bikes. The '09 Accesses use the '05 4T frame that I think I have read is stronger than the '06-'09 frame, which should be good for a trail bike. How does the 5 speed in the Shercos compare to the 6 speeds in the other 2Ts? Does it just have a little wider spacing 1-3 and still have two road gears or does it use similar spacing 1-4 and only one road gear? I also found an '07 Scorpa SY 250R. I like the fact that Scorpa offers the Long Ride seat and tank. Thanks for the input so far.

I live in MT, in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. I start riding at 5300' and can go to 8000' in about 2 miles. When I say "trail" riding I mean very steep, very rocky trails. I have a KTM 300 XC-W that does pretty well, but for the real nasty trails or for when I decide to just make my own trail (private property) the trials bike comes in handy. Can a guy still buy most parts for a '99 Gas Gas? It still runs very well, but everything is starting to get loose and rattley. If parts are available maybe I should just keep it and fix it up.

I have a '99 Gas Gas TXT 270 and am looking to upgrade to something newer. My budget allows for something in the '04-'08 range. I have no trials clubs or competitions in my area, so I will only use it for trail and play riding. I don't want to start a brand bashing thread, but am wondering if one brand works and lasts better for trail (not trials) use. If you want to send me a PM or email (scrotis at hot mail dot com) I would really appreciate it. I know very little about trials bikes, because I am the only one in my area that has one. I am looking to upgrade from my '99 GG TXT 270 to a newer bike. From what I have read on here I like what I hear about Shercos. Trials bikes are very hard to find around here, but I have located a couple that are about 8 hours away that I am considering buying. The first is a 2006 Sherco 2.9. Ad says, "I Bought this bike last year, rode it 2 times its just not for me. Runs perfect plastic in great shape tires have plenty of use left. This is a clean bike with little use and no abuse." An email from him says, "The previous owner has been riding trials bikes for many years, and gets 2 or 3 new bikes every year or so however, he doesn

I think I found the bike I am looking for, but want to make sure it is a good bike and a fair deal. What do you guys think? "2005 Beta 270 Rev 3 trials motorcycle. Ridden lightly by amateur. Still looking. Neither of those bikes seemed like exactly what I was looking for. How about this one: "2004 Beta Rev3 270cc I have decided to sell my Beta in order to pay some bills and buy a supermoto converion set-up for my 690 Enduro. Brian R, I live in Emigrant, MT, which is near Bozeman. I am starting to think that neither of these bikes is quite the right bike. I really like the Sherco, but would like find one that really was "used easy." How tough are these bikes? Is the way it was rode even something to worry about? I am worried that the Gas Gas might not be as reliable as I want. Let's throw another potential bike into the mix. This one is listed on Lewisport's website: "2007 Beta 270 New tires, new stator, Renthal bars, Jitsie aluminum pegs, spark arrestor, new bash plate. $4395" The fact that it needed that much new stuff makes me think it must have been rode pretty hard. I would have to have it shipped as well which would add at least $300 to the price.

Wow, not a lot of love for '04 Gassers apparently. I thought it sounded like the better deal. The Sherco must be quite a bit better bike I take it? I currently have a '99 Gas Gas TXT 270. Love the bike, but want to upgrade to something newer. Here in my part of the US used trials bikes are very hard to find. As such, my Gas Gas is the only trials bike I have ever ridden. I don't even know anyone else that owns a trials bike. I have found two bikes that both sound like good buys and need some help choosing. 1st bike - "2008 Sherco 2.9 trials bike. This bike has been used easy for one season. The engine runs very strong and starts easy. The brakes are spot-on powerful. The suspension is top quality with a WORKS PERFORMANCE fully adjustable rear shock. The original rear shock is fine and is included. It has been prepped for the new season with new tires and full service. Ready to ride, nothing to fix. I can say that this bike is very nice cosmetically and near perfect overall operation. $4900" Bike is located 1 hour away, so I could go test ride it easily. 2nd bike - "2004 TXT 280 Pro Gas Gas Trials Bike, Ridden less then 6 hrs, Like New Condition. must see. $3,395" Bike is located 7.5 hours away, so test riding it is out of the question. I was looking to spend $3000-3500, but would be willing to spend the extra on the Sherco if it is worth it. Which bike would you guys buy? Thanks.
