I ride every section in first at 10 - 42. If you're geared up at 11 - 42 you've got no slow option when you're shagged towards the end of the week. There's nothing worse than been pulled up a section by a bike going too fast, makes a tough week tougher.
I suggest you acquire a 10t sprocket for next time you visit, both AG & I ride virtually all our sections in first gear.
Would a compromise not be you leave the front alone and take a couple off the back ?
lol, those coppers did that just up the road from here, I thought it was fair play them doing it, but they did get a servere bollocking apparently. Dads Army game FFS, imagine what things will be like in 5 years time????? at this rate, I see France are trying to do the right thing though
was thinking of useing rachet tye downs rapped round the flywheel and foot peg for support
can you use the rachet gun without a holding tool
A ratchet strap wound 2/3 times roumd the flywheel (so it over laps) and the free end clamped to the foot peg with a vice grip will do the job, even with a ratchet and socket.
As you turn the socket the strap will tighten more than enough to stop the flywheel turning.
(You just have to wind the strap on the right way)

Thanks mickmetcalfe.
Which of the inserts require the smallest diameter hole, as you say there isnt much to play with.
