  1. Your right and there is a thread about it so why do you think it is beneficial to start another thread?

Sorry, didnt notice the reference to the change in start arrangements regarding the Pre 65, where was it ?

  2. There's been a lot of discussion regarding moving the start of the SSDT, most at present, want to stay as is.

The start of the Pre 65 Scottish was ALWAYS at the old school, which has now been replaced by allweather football pitches (or something)

Not a word, didn't affect the trial or atmostphere as far as I could detect, so the question is -

Why would a move (admittely further) make such a differance ?

Covered parking might encourage more traders to set up stalls and add to the hussel and bussel which seems to have been missing.

    Just a thought.

  3. I sent my entry away about 6 weeks ago and have not heard anything yet Ross.

I don't think Ken Shutt has done the entry list yet.

I rode last year and had a great day on the easy route on my Sherpa.A few testers but nothing too hard, even the hard route did not look too bad.

There was long queues at some sections due to the large entry but a very enjoyable trial.

Also worth camping and making a weekend of it to watch some great Classic scrambling on the sunday. Some of the best racers in the country

ride on the sunday. Then theres me at the back of the twinshock field,if I get an entry.

    Hi Davie

Hope to see you there !

  4. McComisky, jumped in to fast, found another spelling (and I think this is the correct one)

No Charlie, not guilty, but I have had a quick shot on Jocks C15, feels very light and first impression was that it handles well. But obviously forks and shocks have a bearing there.

Dont know about eligibility, and not opening that hornets nest.

  5. Only 2 things kill bearings in engines on trials bikes & they're dust &/or water.

First is caused by sloppy maintenence ie filter not fitted right/torn or dirty, take your pick.

Second is caused by us setting sections in streams, if you drown it don't just put it away wet, dry out airbox & fit dry filter then run for 1/2 hour minimum to heat all the water out of the bearings

As far as life of the rest of the engine goes there is no hard & fast answer to when to replace parts like with mx bikes, top guys do piston & rings once a year if they don't sell the bike before then but most guys who upgrade every year or two may never get inside theirs

Normal strip for bearings will need all gaskets, crank seals & bearings replaced along with anything else you feel like doing & is not hugely expensive

    3rd thing - low ratios 2 stroke.

  6. The two hole are there for a reason.. the plain one is for the ignition wire from the points to feed through. The extended one is for the engine breather, which works from the cam. Its timed and blows into the outer case, and then out through the hole at the back. If you block them both you will have nowhere for the air pressure to go and oil will leak from everywhere..

Can you not put an extension on and take a tube up under the tank to get round this ?

  7. I found it hard to believe that after 6 years the main bearing are already gone. I have oldtimer 2T scooter with 50 years old bearings that stil doing fine.

Bet your not running it at 50/80 : 1 though.

  8. For me, my opinion, tradition rules. SSDT is fort william. Arrive saturday morning, see the flags, trucks in the parc ferme, week has already started.

Traditionally the trial started and finished in Edinburgh. Times and traditions can change !

  9. Two bits from a future competitor. I have since my youth wanted to ride the Sottish Six Days and am now putting together a group to do just that in 2011. I have never been to Scotland, but offer these thoughts: To move the centre on the event out of town would be a mistake, this has happened where I live, and it has only resulted in greatly diminshed spectator and participant numbers; spectators often being the future of the sport.

What does Fort William think? Do they want the event moved out of town?

    Spencer

Will you not come if they move the parc ferme ?

  10. Sadly, the tone of the message at the top of this thread suggests to me that the decision is already made.

This "consulutation" is just an unsubtle PR excersise. I hope that I am wrong.

There is a link between this initiative and the arrival of the World Trials Championships in 2010. May I expand on this-

I feel that the SSDT in 2009 was a wonderful success and the organisers have been rightly praised for their handling of some unbelievable meteorological conditions.

They do, however, need to consider the wisdom of their decision to allow the 2010 World Round organisers to hijack the opening parade.

Spectators at the SSDT are thin on the ground these days.

What a bad idea idea it was, therefore, to allow an event to promote itself in front of the very people who may choose to attend that event next year instead of the SSDT.

The SSDT relies on an enormous amount of goodwill from the local residents, authorities and Police who tolerate motorcycle, which are barely road legal, to travel backwards and forwards virtually unchallenged for a week in order to access the wonderful terrain which all competitors enjoy.

That goodwill is based on one benefit to the town which is, quite simply, an influx of people spending money.

Moving the heart of the trial out of town can only diminish it's links with the community, and ultimately the goodwill which leads to the above-mentioned tolerance. It may also, unwittingly, lead to the event becoming off-road only (and, god forbid, on pre- something or other bikes).

Promoting the World Round was an error.

World Rounds are just indoor trials held outdoors, which have no relevance whatsoever (in riding terms) to 99% of trials riders. They merely have some shallow entertainment value which, in all probability, we would get bored of watching very quickly.

TThe SSDT is one of the last real motorcycle trials. It is held outdoors - and that includes mending the bikes.

It is, in principal, not broken. So don't mend it.

    Slightly cynical analyse.

Pre something or other bikes - now thats a good idea.
