As Stork955 says, it might just be air pressure. I would slacken off the tops to let any excess pressure out (might have been alot colder when you rebuilt them) Tighten up and try again, before doing anything else.

SOMETHING TO PONDER OVER
Common knowledge?
Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 600 employees and has the following employee statistics:
29 have been accused of spouse abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
9 have been accused of writing bad cheques
17 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shop-lifting
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
84 have been arrested for drink driving in the last year
Which organisation is this?
It's the 635 members of the House of Commons, the same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us inline.
What a bunch of to**er's we have running our country - it says it all. And just to top all that they probably have the best 'corporate' pension scheme in the country .

Drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it continuing, and other small holes to zip tie it together.

You can get the rubber strap thing in B&Q, if your in the UK.

I dont know, could be the old casing cut off at the web and a flat plate in its place ?
-
Thanks Woody.Very practical mod, but not very pretty. How much smaller is a PVL system than the standard Lucas generator? I've seen some B40's with a much slimmer cover on the left than my one. This would be quite a athsetically pleasing mod. The PVL goes in place of the generator and doesnt need a battery ? Are the old covers interchangeable with the later one ?

Was looking on ebay and saw this

What have they done to the right casing ? Says Rex Gaunt ignition, how does that work ?

Try looking on You Tube, quite a few gas gas videos showning various repairs.

Loo's arn't the same, but there's sure plenty of sh*t going round.
Thanks for the suggestions, will lookout for Belgom Alu'.

At best is ok. They can flip up of their own accord, and will flatten your finger if it happens to be in the wrong place. (long story)

Came across this, you've probably seen it. Still interesting.

I really enjoyed the event, kinda glad I was on a modern bike though.
Also really glad I was wearing a helmet having hit a branch hard at section 13 (?)

Trust washer is available, but not sure if required, as you say. Under load the plates lock up and all forces are transmitted through the gear box shaft, I hope.
Thanks Alan
Anybody (Wayne) wish to confirm.
