  1. Hi all

I have just fitted an Electrex ignition system to my Greeves Scottish and discovered that it isn't possible to position the stator plate in the position that corresponds to the instructions - to time it to fire 10 degree BTDC, and I would have to drill new holes in the stator plate to achieve this setting. Has anyone else come across this problem ?. Incidentally, I can position the stator to 16 degrees BTDC (as per original system).

Came across this site, might be of some use.

  2. Congratulations on passing your CSE English language exam McPoindexter.

    Now F*uck Off.

Although I don't think you'll be able to resist the overwhelming desire to share some more of your exquisite grasp of the English language with the rest of the trials community!

You illiterate racist. (look it up in the dictionary)

  3. Only if your name is Gordon or Alistair and you originate North of Hadrian's Wall Pal!

Economical with the truth means they cannot be trusted, uneconomical with the truth means they can - pal.

  4. I read that post by Greeves about boring out the axel hole in the backing plate. Interesting, the rest of the procedure I was familar with holding on the brake before tighten up the axel nut and brake stay, but the hole expansion was new, think I'll try it....

Could you tell me where the post you refer to is.

    Thanks Ross

  5. Curses, foiled again!

It's actually a 350cc BSA Bantam, Post Office Telegram bike I've got and entry with in the Pre-65! Apparently Jeff Smith and Bill Nicholson secretly tested a 350cc Bantam in January 1959 with the view to making it into a big bore two-stroke trials machine.

I have had one specially built using a disguised Husqvarna motor tuned down with programmable ignition and had the frame and cycle parts painted Pillar Box Red especially for this event, should raise quite a few eyebrows methinks!

    Big John

    I thought I was the only one riding a 350 Bantam !

  6. Is this whole topic not just in parallel to what is happening in society in general ? Instant gratification, constantly wanting more, bigger, shinier. Get it on credit, worry about paying for it tomorrow. If it breaks, throw it away and buy a new one.

Pre-65, in my opinion, should be an antidote to all the above.

By the way I'm not 85, and didn't fight in the war etc.

And I dont like tubless tyres either, so there.

Note to self - new years resolution - stop being grumpy.

  7. boy your tax system sounds confusing.

    oh wait so is ours.

Income tax- state and federal- (penalize me for being a productive member of society and support the lazy *******s)

2 or 3 different taxes on gasoline

sales tax (varies by state, where I at is 6%)

    windfall profit tax (for businesses)

    luxury tax.

"sin" taxes - (special taxes on tobacco and alcohol)

Death and taxes the only guarantees in life.

well enough ranting..........I still ain't gonna move to a new state or country so I guess it don't bother me that much.

Yeah - but we are members of the EU, which means we follow every law they introduce, except when it comes to duty on tobacco and booze. Scotch whiskey is cheaper in France than the UK. I kid you not.

  8. I'm curious whether anyone has a basic wiring diagram for a TL320. Mine is not running now, as it has no spark. I've pulled off the electrical tape that was wadded up along the top rail of the frame, and found four wires, two green and two yellow, that are not connected to anything, though it appears that the two green wires may have been connected to each other before I removed the insulating tape. There is also a blue wire, connected to the coil.

I'm guessing that the yellow wires are for the lighting system (and so they are unused on this bike, as it has no lights.) What are the green wires, and where should they connect?

When rotax motors arn't used for a while the points can stick, quick spray will usually fix. If the cam on the flywheel has surface rust this will wear the heel of the points very quickly, worth a check. I have had no real problems with points or condensors over the years, and wouldnt go to the time or expense of electronic ignition. I'm pretty sure I got my last points from a chain saw supplier.

  9. didn't pay it there, have no buisness there. couldn't therefore when back in the uk pay it to anyone as the van vat free was purchased from a belgian, ie no one to pay it to.

However when I registered them, both required signing a seperate sheet to say I would "account" for the vat in my returns, think again I gave my vat number. So I never actually "paid" vat at all.

What I can't work out is how some dealers in spain can send bikes to the uk vat free when I had to jump through a few hoops.

Personally without a decent warranty I would never buy a trials bike this way its not worth it. Second hand I wouldn't chance it.

Surley not paying vat & reclaiming vat are different ?

If your not vat registered what would the situation be?

  10. Yeah, got my tax demand on Christmas Eve aswell. The cynical among us would believe they do that on purpose.....probably with their trousers around their ankles!

So I hope the same God is looking down on our SSDT entry form.

    Good luck for the SSDT.

The only good thing about paying your TAX is the very nice thank you letter you get from Alister Darling saying " thanks for your hard earned dosh, you know I'm going to spend it wisely........"
