    What Tyre Choice?

In my limited experience all tyres are good when new, Michelin's seem to be good for longer ! I always run 4.5lbs rear and 5 in front. Tried softer and harder but always come back to these pressures.
  3. Andy Approx when did this happen as I would like to look up the details in the local papers. Regards Ross
  4. British Labour You have two cows, they break out of their field, set the hay barn on fire, smoke, drink, take drugs, make all the other farm animals lives a misery. They are taken to court and sent on an all expenses paid safari in Kenya.
  5. If you use this method only change one bearing at a time, (to keep the axle square) and never be tempted to hit the axle as this put the load through the centre / bearing, rather than the outside of the bearing.
  6. Take the plug out and kick over. Check plug for signs of water. Drain carb. Clean check air filter.
  7. Agree with other comments. I use a metal rod approx 10 mm x 300mm, push through from one side and lever the central spacer gently untill you can start gently tapping the bearing out. Go round & round so the bearing stays square to the hub. When replacing with new I use a brass drift, this will do less damage if you do hit the hub. When replacing the bearing try only to drift it in around the outside ie the surface that fits into the hub. (remember to replace the central spacer having cleaned it and covered in a coat of grease)
  8. You obviously didnt make yourself clear - you should have said the other other side. Yes I and blond myself.
  9. Like every one else said, quite common on Bultaco's, basically if the timing isnt spot on, and you give it a half harted kick, the piston doesnt go over TDC and fires in the wrong direction. Moral of the story - ease the clutch out.
  10. I agree with all the others, to speed thingd up, if you can get them on. stand in a river untill they are saturated, walk about untill they soften up. When they are about half dry put any oil based treatment on and stuff with paper. This tends to draw the oil right into the leather. They should be fine.
  11. How do you stop Gordon Brown drowning ? Take your foot off his head.
  12. Go to any large cycling shop, mountain bike jackets have to do all the things you ask for, and there is a huge selection to choose from. How good it is depends on how deep your pockets are !
  13. Kendal Classic MCC are running Trial & Scramble 16-17/08/08, thanks for the info, e-mailed Ken Shuttleworth (shutts87@aol.com) who forwarded details. Thanks Majesty 320, t-shock 250 (hamish?) and Woody. Cumberland sounds good to. Ross
  14. Hi, I'm told there is a two day pre-65 trial in the lake district during August or September, but can't find any info. Any info / pointers appreaciated. Ross

    Boyer V's Pvl

I've heard good reports about PVL, but found it hard to believe it could be much better than my existing Boyer system. What you say seems to confirm this. I have seen some B40's with a smalley primary chain chase (off a C15?) which narrow the engine significantly, which may be the major advantage. Many thanks. Any more info ??
  17. I have no experience of 420, but run 428 on my B40. I replace the chain regularly and have found the sprockets last really well. Some people run 520 on B40's, but no one has ever said there was any advantage to me. The only thing to be carefull of is heavy duty chains fouling the engine cases.
  18. Has anyone fitted Boyer and swapped to PVL ignition ? I am particularly interested if fitted to a B40, but any comparison would be interesting. What are the advantages / disadvantages of each ? B40RT
  19. Big John How about a report on travelling to Robregordo, time taken travelling, route, documentation etc. Appologies if this has all been covered elsewhere. I would be intrested for next year. Many thanks Ross

Tyres dont look new, or seat ,or foot rests ?
  22. There's an article about wheel maintenance if you go onto the main page, click the "other " header, Technical article, Ron Milam collection no 9. Havent read it all but should give you some pointers.
  23. Hi Michael Had a KT many years ago, and although I had a lot of fun and did my first trial on it, my main memories are that the front end was never right. The stearing was unpredictable and the forks were also poor. The Kt, when used on the road used to pop and bang on the overrun, and I was advised by the dealer to open the plug gap to 75 thou ! I can also remember on wet days putting my hand on / near the engine and getting sparks jumping several inches. Most riders did away with the two stroke tank and went to pre mix. I'm pretty sure that I still have the original hand book somewhere which I thing was A4 size and fairly comprehensive. Ross
