Thats just not true, I've mx forks over 40 year old with no chips. Chrome has been and still is the industry standard

+1 from me for philipots although not sure they do the coating you are looking

I'll jump on the bandwagon, anything that chips chrome would write off an alloy one.

Any recommendations on where to buy spare seals ? I've seen them quite cheap online . Are there specific ones for each set of forks ? Is it a hard job to change can a amateur do this kind of thing ?

Have you tried letting any pressure out ?

Maybe a class with a pit bike type engine (or maybe an electric motor to be a bit more environmentally friendly -although these seem expensive at the moment) and maybe a rigid frame that you have to make yourself either by welding or bolting together? forks/brakes/wheels could be from any source. Not sure how to source a headstock. I can imagine this being fun to build and ride, with a sense of achievement to have created something unique.

Mountain bike with pit bike engine, sorted.

No changes other than modern foot pegs will not be reversible.  I tend to like a more forward position and just dislike the tiller effect.  I have change stems on 2 ty175s and a TY Mono and have not regretted it.  I always keep the stock items and convert back to stock if I stop riding it.  Just personal preference.  Probably because I came from a mountain bike background.

Any mountain bike I've been on has a stem 40 +mm, yet nobody complains if the "tiller effect "  ?

A couple of years ago I sold a new and unused set of these I had left over from buying a new bike in the day (the Fox Shox I had from the previous bike were better). The guy who bought them thought they were good until he tried something more modern, which he has retained. If you're doing the forks there is no point in not modernising the rear. Take a shot on any bike so equipped if you don't believe me. Technology has moved on.

If fox shocks were better, the originals must have been truly dire !

Go to your local summer trial, go ask for observers, then get back to me

And what about the riders, are they going to have to start their stopwatches (with alarms) everytime they ride into a section or will they all just have minders to tell them when there's 10 seconds left?

It's only a bit of fun, if we all behave like grown ups, none of this would be a problem.

I've been studying the effect the main jet has on part-throttle fueling and learning a lot.

Have found an equation for two flow restrictions in series (in this case the main jet and the needle system) and have written a small spreadsheet based on the Dellorto PHBL 26.

Is anyone interested in the results?  I ask because presenting/explaining them would be a fair amount of effort.  I'm also uncertain what the best way to actually present them would be (I know not everyone is as enamored with numbers as I am).

Would anyone be interested in working with the spreadsheet?  It's in OpenOffice Calc, but I could convert to MS Excel.

If your spreadsheet is based on theory and google, without painful testing, how valid is it ?

Yes.   I'm working on a lengthy write-up entitle Improving 40mm Marzocchi Forks, but briefly...

GasGas says to use an SAE 7.5 oil in its Marzocchi forks. Unfortunately, there is a lot of variability between manufacturers in what they consider to be a 7.5 weight oil.  I strongly suggest that you select fork oil based on its kinetic viscosity (which is measured in centiStokes) instead of by its rated weight.  Peter Verdone has a fabulous table of many readily available fork oils along with their kinematic viscosity. See: https://www.peterverdone.com/archive/lowspeed.htm

Forks run cool, so all I care about is the kinematic viscosity at 40 degrees C.

In the US, the recommended fluid is Golden Spectro Cartridge Fork Fluid 125/150 (which is 26.1 cSt @ 40C).  Personally, I feel that is too heavy and am using Maxima 85/150 (which is 15.9 cSt @ 40C).

    WTF you talking about ??????

Fastest time should have no place for starting order in trials. Either make it random or the top riders start first. If this was a race I might agree. It was a novelty to watch in person, but has nothing to do with who is the best trials rider.

It's the only no stop part of world trials these days  ?
