It's a 2 stroke, they smoke. Burning gear oil smells quite differently to 2t oil.
Crank seal on dry side would normally make it run lean, i.e. not a black plug.
Woodruff key tends to be instant, not gradually getting worse, and the result of a stuck open throttle "incident"
If it was running well before, the jetting etc should be right.
-
I doubt the 2t oil is an issue. Have you checked your getting a good spark, ignition problems should not be ruled out.
-
? Think you'll find there has been more development in pre65 's in the last 20 years, than in " modern " bikes

Get a stack of washers, add / subtract till happy. Measure, make spacers.
-
Ignore any negative comments about Yorkshire men, they are just like Scots ? (without the good looks, wit, charm, charisma or happy go lucky attitude)

The hole is very small (which makes it block easily) Soak it in carb cleaner / brake cleaner, blow out both ways with an air line. Guitar strings will clean it but this is NOT recommended. When you last put it away it was running ok ? It so, did you drain the carb ? No ? The fuel will evaporate and leave deposits / varnish, this is probably the problem.

This should have been your first post ...

Is this a question, or just a rant ?

Repsol Honda riders beat them hands (and usually feet) down.

I meant one or other - or neither ?

Gasket was split = leak ?

Messaged you a while ago, don't know if you say it. (TYZ conversation)

@nigel dabster @oni nou half past three in the bike sheds.

Does the chain line up with either sprocket ?
-
? How confident is he ? Probably as critical as any other factor.
-
Colin ? Best to go to a few trials and ask for a shot on the type your thinking of, although as above, a big wheel will probably be a better bet.
-
Can't compare on weight alone as diameter is a major factor.
-
Does it have a reed valve ? Damaged / old reeds can cause all sorts of running / starting issues.
-
-
A hotter plug will only disguise the problem, not cure it.
-
Does the lighting coil and the primary coil have the same part number ? If not, its unlikely to work properly over the full rev range.
-
@lineaway. There you go, someone moving footrests forward to suit their size, just like Danilo Galeazzi !
-
And yet moving footrests on a twin shock is just lazy !!!! Which is it ?????
-
It's to stop the flywheel turning while your removing flywheel nut etc.
If you have a compressor, an air gun will generally work without a holder.
