Hi all, have searched but no joy. Has anyone opened up a wes or sammy mid box and taken pics or measurements? I would quite like to fabricate something similar as I cant afford to buy fancy parts and also enjoy that sort of thing. Or some good info on what exhaust characteristics the ty250 ts enjoys. Have the '74 model but may change barrel and head to the c or d as I've read they had better porting etc. Thanks.

Why not contact Wes in Spain directly ? I'm sure he would be delighted to give all his hard earned information for nothing, it's not like its his lively hood or anything.

The very early red/white SWM used a smaller flywheel that the yellow models.....Sammy Miller used to list a bolt on flywheel weight in his catalogue many moons ago.

While in the flywheel area.......one of my talented SWM contacts has converted his bike to electronic ignition, with some very good results. It is utilising a kit thats already available on the market, and I have one winging its way to me shortly, to see if its as easy to install as he makes out..and whether the improvement is significant enough to warrant the money.

Will let you know the findings soon.

    @martinm pretty exhaustive testing ..

If you use a water-cooled piston in an aircooled engine it may seize up because of the tighter tolerances used on an water-cooled engine.

No, this is true. I read it on here so it must be ....

Breagh there was a serious post from a schoolboy dad on here a few years ago, they lived on the Isle of Wight. He thought it was completely out of order to drive as far as Yorkshire for a British Champ round ???. Even when the north east of England centre stage a British champ round there's still an awful lot of the UK North of that trial

"School boy dad" when I was a lad etc ...

Moving on and going back to where we're from.

This site regularly has posters that state there location as Northern UK.

Then they go to say they're from  Cumbria or Newcastle or even York?

Who are these people and how do they ever get to a Trial let alone finish one.

    Don't they own a map,

    Where is Fyfe anyway ?

Lanyards: Not perfect, as I commented on an earlier thread after witnessing what happened to Pol Tarres at the world round.

The lanyard definitely made that situation dangerous as Pol couldn't kill the screaming engine without taking his hand off the clutch which would have fired the bike off into the distance.

So not having it fitted would have made a difference ? How did it make a dangerous ? Vert few things are perfect in every situation.

Looking down the 2017 entry list makes me wonder.

WTF is the difference in :

    British

    UK

    English

    Scottish

    Welsh

    Irish

    Manx

    Costa Rica

It's a bit like putting your location as TeXas, instead of usa !

From an environmental point of view we should all have efi or do something to prevent carbs leaking fuel. I'm not so concerned about what comes out of the exhaust.

On an efi system the fuel is effectively sealed to prevent spill if a one way breather is fitted to the fuel cap. On a carb system the bike spills fuel when it gets passed a certain angle of lean in any direction. Keihin / Mikuni much worse than dellorto in this respect.

How difficult would it be to fit a catch tank if that's the only (non) issue with carbs.

It's an old trials bike and things have moved on from when it was made. I just don't really get why people are so preoccupied with making them  ride like a modern bike. If you enter the right trials meant for that bike it's fine the way it is, that all im saying.

I keep getting told I have to modify the foot pegs and get the old suzuki top yoke to make my Beamish Suzuki better, I'm well no I don't, I won my class with it the way Beamish made it, beating plenty of modded 70s n 80s bikes,  so its fine as is lol

Where did you get your Dunlop Trials Universals from ?
