Hi Ross, 44t was a disaster. Any slight amount of throttle and the front wheel was in the air. I can post it to you if you want to try it? it was good to meet you at Martins stand on Saturday. Cheers, Paul
Hi Paul, sorry, a bit dim and didn't work out it was you ! I have had a shot on one in Spain and the gearing was "normal" with a 38 on the back. I will have to try and find out the gearing on the crank / clutch basket is where the difference lies. The water pump was driven from this so this might have necessitated the change ?
Ive tried your world remember Ross ☺. Those happy nights in the garage cleaning drums, cramp from pulling the clutch in, praying the kickstart doesn't snap when you kick it over. Is that defined as soul ?
did you actually fit the bikes with the wheel on ?
can you please give me some advice in order to avoid demolishing the car ?
thanks
2 bikes in sharan no problem, take bars off for 2, or drop as said for 1. Back wheel in first for both. Use the seat anchor points at front, purpose made anchor points at rear for attaching ropes. Tie the bikes together first, as high as possible and at least 2 places. Then pull them apart, with ropes back and front. Zip tie bars loosely to forks to avoid damaging cables etc. Cover them with a black sheet and they become virtually invisible if you have tinted windows.
"I would be looking for a four seater vehicle as I would have to have this for work"
That rules out all the van versions of Berlingos, Connects, Doblos etc. because they are two seaters. If you are looking at the "people carrier" type versions you will be needing to remove seats to get the bike into them in one piece.
People carriers are very good, but you have to drop the bars to get bike in. Seats are easily removed in VW, Seat, Ford derivatives, but are bulky and heavy.
You can have four seats in with the bike in the middle.
