    2.9 Torque Specs

HMMM..... you have seen how I ride so you know that we will have to redo the powder coat again on the muffler next year or the year after. I agree a skull would be nice!!! Right in the middle of the muffler. OR all WGASA members should get the WGASA Penguin on their mufflers!!! That Gasser Muffler does look great, and with that pesky restriction gone I bet it runs sweet.

Oh where did me Dingy go?
  3. Yes, snow it happens. The plastics are covered with a vinyl decal sheet actually made for RC car bodies. This particular graphic is black background with grey "carbon fiber" skulls. The decal has taken much abuse and needs to be changed to something else skull or death related. (but no $$ left in budget for making it look good.) I figure why fight it that bike is gonna kill me sooner or later. Gotta admit I love to see that Miata pulling a trailer with trials bikes on it. It's a one of a kind. Back on the off season training thing. I am actually started "working out" on an Arc trainer (think stair stepper crossed with an elliptical) and some weight machines. I think I have picked ones that mimic the motions of trials. Arm and Leg motions. I am also trying to improve my cardiovascular and pulmanary longevity. We shall see how well it works and how long I actually continue to do it.
  4. Biff, Again I would like to say thanks. To see more thanks to Biff Check out the 2.9 torque specs topic in Sherco forum. Look at last Zippy post on page 2. (I couldn't get the link thingy to work) Wow a video of me staying ON the bike. Dang that bike sounds so much better, and looks good too.

    2.9 Torque Specs

For those that may be interested the Sherco is back together and running sweet. Rode it in the drive way yesturday for a few minutes and seems to have much more power definately better throttle response. A big thank you to Biff for coming over and powder coating my exhaust and shift lever. Man does it looks sweet now. Now it is time to break it in. The only drawback to this is now I have lost most of my excuses as to why I ride like crap. Only thing left to do is flatten skid plate, sharpen foot pegs and make up my "highway pegs" The list, REPLACED: rings crank bearings and seals reeds wrist pin and bearing all gaskets in engine clutch hubs and pressure plate (my oops broke the old one was bad day) throttle cable throttle tube assembly grips front brake line in line thermostat with housing front and rear wheel bearings (Thanks to Biff for these, added extra grease also) rebuilt clutch master cylinder CLEANED (AND GREASED IF CALLED FOR): carb all suspension bearings (dog bones, swing arm, etc...) Rear brake lever bearing Front brake caliper (tear down and clean, jury still out if this is working right) Steering head bearings air filter OTHER beefed up skid plate mounts. Flip rear tire around Just for those that might have been interested in the project and why it took so long. I think that is everything.
  6. IT'S ALIVE!!!! as of yesturday it runs, now time to snort 2-stroke fumes in shed.
  7. Firstgear, Yep, pretty sure a few of us could fill lots of video of things not to do for training, or riding for that matter. Sounds like a good idea, and pretty easy to do, wonder if there is a market. Hey copie unfortunatley for me I gotta refer back to the doggone OT at work statement, and my travel allowence from the accountant is pretty slim. But I would LOVE to go to the Fun in the sun two day and the Sooner cup.

    Importer Direct

Well here goes probably gonna get blasted: I am strictly a consumer with little business experience. I appreciate our local dealers, especially the ones that are actually stocking parts and accessories, and bring them to events. If I break something then I can fix it. But for some it is usually easier for large orders to just order direct from from importer. Sorry local guys. I buy from local dealer and they have to order parts from the importer and then I have to drive to pick it up from dealer (1.5 hr drive) for $45 part, or wait for next event to get it and then hope like heck I can get the bike fixed before start time. I order from importer and about 4 days it's on my front porch. Somebody mentioned saving a couple hundred bucks, well heck yes this is a hobby and in order to do it I need to do it as cheaply as possible so I can continue to ride. So if that option is taken away then the customer would have no other choice but to buy from the "larger" dealer. A few not so affluent riders may have to choose between riding and gas to go to work but hey that is life, you do what you can afford. Now having large amounts of bikes, parts, service, etc.. at the events is great, but I don't think that will expand the sport of trials. That will only service and make happy the current participants, which is of course a good thing. I would like to know how many dealers (not importers) have an actual building with a showroom, parts and accessories, where someone can go and check it all out. The other mainstream motorcycle dealers have this advantage, Joe average sees a motorcrosser, thinks maybe I would like that. Goes to local dealership, looks at a few different bikes, sits on some bikes, talks with the staff and walks out with new bike. Now he buys parts and accessories from this dealership cuz he likes how they treated them. OK, Joe Average sees trials bike and thinks what is that, talks to trials bike owner and wants to know where to get one. Trials bike owner says "well come to an event and check out the 3 used bikes that are for sale, or call **** importer, or call Mr. Joe Dealer. None of these guys have one you can check out you just gotta order one and hope you like it." Our biggest problem with getting new riders is exposure we have none, whether it is actual dealerships in buildings or media coverage. Maybe I am for a established dealer network I don't know, I just like to save a couple hundred bucks. My 2 cents, but in this economy really worth 0.5 cents.
  9. My training has been saying nasty 4 letter words at my Sherco (still in pieces) and increasing my layer of natural insulation.
  10. Hey Windfall you will need that CCW in the Rouge. I have looked at my bike alot since Thanksgiving. I have seen the inside of the engine, the frame totally empty, etc.... Too much OT at work at this time of year, not enough time for fun stuff. But pays for bike parts.
  11. BIFF, get your over here so we can finish this dang Sherco!!! I am so jealous, I wanna ride. good to see you got your bike back together, and that muffler looks awesome.
  12. Is that a cardboard gas tank? Don't think it will hold up too long. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH That exhaust looks very well done. But somewhat curious why you chose to go to the opposite side and then back over the top of the engine. To protect the header maybe?
  13. I was just being a bit of a smart and also trying to state what a good idea just a simple poll is to find out what everybody is using. I really thought it a good idea.
  14. I feel so special to be the first to vote. Good Idea to just do a poll might reduce all the "comments" and "gospel" I mean opinions.
  15. No Barn?! I guess this means I gotta sleep in the Quonset hut. You are welcome Sam but not sure if I was really much help.
  16. sorry quit reading halfway through when I realized there was just a bunch of words there to try to complicate things even more and dazzle the "rednecks" (I am one) among us with a bunch of fancy sounding explanations. By the way I never said anything about expressing the ratio itself. Just the wording in the statement should have been reversed to make the explanation easier to understand. What does 4 stroke got to do with this discussion? I done now no more replies from me. I bow to the master of ratios. finito
  17. OK for the sake of argument if more oil makes it richer when discussing fuel and oil mix. Then should the statement then read "That more oil makes the mixture of oil to fuel richer." If we are discussing the oil portion and refering to the oil being richer than the oil should be stated first. And I don't want any "well you know what I meant" type of replies, because if we knew what was meant than there would not be 2 pages just argueing what "richer" means.
  18. Pack the bejeesus out of them with a high quality grease, (I also use anti seize mixed in) So that when you use that EVIL DASTARDLY power washer there will be some grease left for the next ride.
  19. I have replaced quite a few sets of U Joints on trucks, S-10, F150, Chevy 1500, late 80's to mid 90's. Never seen the honda CRV U joints, but I can't imagine that the construction is too different from vehicle to vehicle. I am assuming that the CRV is a rear wheel drive. All of the U joints I have done the rear of the drive shaft has 2 holes (yokes me thinks) that the U Joints are pressed into and out of. (I redneck and use hammer.) The other 2 "caps" are attached to the Differentional with 2 U bolts. 4 nuts total. Just remove nuts and re-install after the other 2 "caps" are pressed into the drive shaft. Just remember to jack the rear of the vehicle high enough so that the transmision fluid or gear lube stays in the tranny when you pull the drive shaft out of rear of tranny. All I have seen are just a splined shaft with a seal that slide in and out. Hope that all makes sense. In all the ones I have done I never worried about doing any type of balancing, because I never did anything to the drive shaft just swapped the U joints and those should be balanced from the factory. Always worked good. Now remember the disclaimer: The Honda CRV may have a different design than I have seen. But I think you may be able to handle it. Just take your time and don't throw tools, (my wife would pick them up and hide them on me I finally learned.) Hope this helps
  20. Not seeing much warming here. 0F (-18C) with a wind chill of -22F (-30C). Have heard that the earth goes through periods where the average temperature rises a few degrees naturally and then drops a few degrees. Supposed to be some natural cycle of things.
  21. HMMM, rubber mounts..................dang it Jay now you got me thinking........See the smoke coming out my ears. I will probably just flatten the skid plate out again (this is done yearly) and mount it back on.
  22. I just like to see how things are built and how they work. That looks really nice, I like the swingarm mount looks mighty strong. Motor fits in there really nice. Is that Sherco frame a year 2000? The rear skidplate mounts look just like my 2000's and there appears to be a crack in the one. (just like mine) I ended up welding an extra plate to the inner side of the mounting tab and a gusset from the round part of the frame to the tab. (yep explanation clear as mud) When I get everything else together (big winter project) I will test them out. Read as "beat the hell out of them"
  23. First off Howard credit where credit is due those are really nice and fine examples of good work. And they look good. Obviously you are one of the Engineeers that can think past the paper phase of things. There are a few of them in the world I forgot to mention that part. My hat off to you as well. Jay, yep what you said.
  24. Well, that makes alot of sense. But one more question............Now that you mention the beer cooler how in the heck do you find room to put even 1 bike?
