My wonderful wife makes sure that the furnace in the garage is turned up to a very comfortable temperature when I wish to work on my bikes. This keeps me and the bike parts in the garage and not on the kitchen table or living room carpet. She either really loves me or really loves the table and carpet.
A neighbor I once had rebuilt a V-8 in his living room. with complete use of an engine stand. Funniest thing I ever saw.
Have known some people that have stored motorcycles in the den and living room also. I am kinda jealous actually.
If you raise the engine compression too far, it WILL NOT SPARK!
And that is why as my cylinder gets progressively more carboned up I appropriately increase the percentage of Diesel fuel that I mix with my 50/50 93 octane and 110 octane at an 80:1 ratio of purely synthetic olive oil (going healthy here).
What I meant to say was that the coverage and conversation of Knighter's actions is taking away from the coverage and conversation of the fact that Taddy kicked butt and won. If Knighter had not Ghost Rode his bike we would all be talking more about Taddy and Colton and Geoff and the various other trials riders that rode the event. Again just my opinion.
Congrats to all that rode the event no matter what type of bike, although my opinion is that the trials bike is better suited for said event.
Here is a speculation: How different would the race have been if the top 3 guys were riding trials bikes. They got those positions because they is real good. How much better would they have ridden if on trials bikes?
Yup, the bearing box had c3 at the end of its size (that's the expansion tolerance/play ,yes??).
Rest assured after all this work I will be making a big effort to keep the crud out...anyhow I only got water in when I washed it.as with all my Shercos???!!!.
Cheers,
Wayne
I only get water in mine when my bike and I go for a swim in a Canadian stream.
OK I will give it a go to try and explain the exceedily amature technique that I use. Bear in mind the tallest thing I have splatted is about 3.5 to 4 ft.
good kicker is needed placed on ground same distance as obstacle is tall. (so I am told)
first few times give yourself plenty of run at it. Not so much to build speed as just to feel comfortable,
as you approach the kicker,
rev the engine,
compress the suspension (get down on it)
as you bring your body up, this begins to "spring" the suspension up ---dump the clutch.
The entire time you are doing this look at a point ABOVE the obstacle, do not look at the leading edge of it.
when the rear tire hits the face of the obstacle absorb the impact with your legs, lean forward a tad, and pull in the clutch.
At this point you will either "clean" the splatter and be on top of said obstacle or sitting on the skid pan. Either way you ain't falling back down.
also good to have a catcher just in case you don't make it. And they can give you a hard time if you don't make it.
If there are any more experienced with the splatter that can point out any problems with this explanation, don't be shy.
The 2005 manual quotes the mains seal dimensions as 24-40-7 and that's what I have ordered but... I have now stripped the motor and the old ones are 25-40-7.
Can I get away with using my new 24-40-7 seals or is that 1mm too much difference?
Cheers
Wayne
Depends,
are the old ones labeled as 25-40-07 or did you measure them to be that size. If measured they may just be worn and that would cause the difference. If they is labeled as such, I would call my friendly Sherco dealer and ask what they suggest.
I was reading that and the missus asked what was so funny. I explained that some guy wanted to route the exhaust back into the turbo and she just laughed. This is a quote "I am a woman and I know that ain't gonna work!"
My dad had rented one a few years back, Whilst sitting on the PWC at the dock, the POS, sorry I mean PWC, rolled to the side, Dad reached out to catch himself on the dock and promptly broke something in his shoulder.
Hey whoa ya'll gotta warn me ahead of time that thar is gonna be pic like that.
I am scrolling down through the posts with the missus at my side talking about .......who knows I wasn't listening anyways. And all of a sudden WHAMO!!! a really nice pic of a good smile. And then 1 second later WHAMO!!! I get hit upside the head.
By the way it was well worth getting hit upside the head.
You know ive been kinda bummed out that the trials comp forum is gone and that there is so little activity on this tc usa site. I really thought these forums could help grow the sport a bit but then there are those who try to tear one make of bike down. . All 5 makes are good, The one that happens to be talked about at this time happens to be the most popular bike in the USA. I find it strange that if they break down so much why do they sell so many. If i was a newcomer reading this forum id think trials bikes arent very reliable which just isnt the case.
here here!
Trials bikes last a longggggg time for the simple fact that most of us cant abuse them enough to cause any major faults.
Ride what you are happy with. Ride to be out there. If your brand of bike needs to be proven it will be in the woods.
--Biff
Wait even Biff can't abuse a bike enough to kill it? say it isn't so!!!
Does this mean you are going to stop busting my chops about riding a Sherco?!
It just won't be the same if you do.
Heck I don't want my Sherco, I want a 300 GG. Just can't afford the switch. but the next bike I buy will be a 300 GG.
I gotta learn to ride so I might have a chance at one if somebody gives them away in a place I ride. Or maybe I should drop 3 classes and be able to get 3rd place.
In MOTA the individual clubs decide the trophies. Usually it is a medalion with the MOTA logo on it attached to a colored ribbon. The color of the medallian denotes place and the ribbon denotes class. But some clubs have decided to take the medallion and fashion an award around it. Examples: Mugs, very nice wooden base with the medallion set in the center.
Just remember "If there are only 3 riders in my class, I am going home with a trophy!!"
oohhh! how about a trials rider doing a big splatter, nose wheelie, or pointing part way down the rock and about to lose balance so one leg is stuck way out. I would like to see some really cool trials specific trophies.
I crashed over the side of a 55 gal drum (it was laying down) and placed my right foot into a tangle of small logs and promptly twisted my ankle up really good. I found out that if a tendon is tore 3/4 of the way through the doctors still call it a sprain. It is a severe sprain, I thought that was interesting in the fact that a sprain can be alot worse than just stretching things. Anyways I was off the bike for a couple months. My first question to the Doc was "when can I ride my motorcycle, I know the trials bike is out for a bit but at least when can I get on the road?" he gave me the usual don't sue me super vague answer of "we will have to wait and see how the healing progresses" As soon as I could sit on the road bike and hold it up with my "bad" ankle I was on the road about 2 weeks later I was back on the trials bike. Of course both of these times of re-entering the motocycle realm were about a month or two earlier than what my wife thought was a good time line. God bless her, she cares but just doesn't understand my frame of mind. I can be a from time to time.
Don did you have to hijack this tred(hahaha) come on you had your say in the "Lane's apology" thread. let it go. Oh and why is everyone backing up their opinions? In Don's world you do not have to take responsibility or explain what is meant about what you say or type.
The topic for this was a request for a new forum.
Andy has been kind enough to add such forum.
therefore there is no extremely important reason to keep this thread open, Andy pleas close this one. The original desired result has come about.
