Change plug, clean carb.
try a different technique. I went from a Sherco to a GasGas and the starting technique is definitely different.
For the Old BAGG (Old Bad Ass GasGass) I have her either on a bike stand or leaned against a tree or other suitable holding device (truck, friend etc.)
Stand on the pegs (both feet)
place foot on kicker and gently push down until feeling resistance. (gears engaged)
swift, smooth kick downward and vroom vroom .
After replacing piston and rings she starts up 1st or 2nd kick now. cold or warm.
before that when cold took many kicks and when warm would require the choke to be on.
good luck, hope you get it sorted and have more energy to ride instead of kicking the bike over.

I too use the 2 winds of electrical tape. but I use compressed air to expand the grips to put them on and then wire tie them.
No issues with movement.
I use Pro-taper grips soft compound full diamond pattern. (cut the end plug out to accept bar end plugs)

I will forgive Freixa a few deep breaths.................hell I get winded walking up a flight of stairs.
But I will not forgive his minder for adjusting the section. a well deserved 5 in my opinion.

You have my congratulations and condolences for being married 39 yrs.
-
I may or may not be a geezer at 43.
I have been part of that wonderful institution known as marriage for 23 yrs. So that means I don't need to worry about impacts to that zone, due to the bits that would be injured are stored in my wife's purse............
-
the Old BAGG is getting new fork seals, they started to leak. which tends to happen to the best of us as we age...........
-
I had an issue with my rear brake that would lose pressure/grip
I rebuilt the master cylinder twice and it would work for a little while.
turns out the bore of the master cylinder was worn out. bought new master cylinder and have not had a problem since.

Four seasons really had me confused, so much so that I was wearing pants and a jacket...... total departure from my normal shorts and T-shirt, but in my defense I was an Observer not a rider this time. I am happy that the final season Mother Nature decided to end on was sunny spring day............it was touch and go for a little while there.
Now speaking of my Observation skills............ I totally missed that Phil, his wife and her family checked out the event. I was being quite observant of my beverages .
I did see the Smagical van and the two new riders, nice guys and I think they had a really good time. They both had big smiles

Use said Goldwing to pull trailer that carries the trials bike to the venue. then you won't have to worry about car keys.........................Motorcycle keys will now be a concern, but the car key problem is fixed.
-
Are you replacing the entire throttle assembly or just the tube?
The problem may be the inside of the "tube holder" (the part with the plastic wheel that the cable sits in) having a part of that worn away or rounded off.
-
HAHAHA He said we are knowledgeable........... that opinion will probably change pretty quick..................
-
It may be a bit heavy to carry around though........................
-
Welcome to the weird world of trials.
I thoroughly enjoyed your story and look forward to more.
-
Welcome to the weird world of trials. GasGas makes really good machines, I thoroughly enjoy mine.
but they can be a bugger to start sometimes.
Try this technique for starting the GasGas.
(use the choke when cold and sometimes when hot too.........)
Lean handlebar on tree (or some other solid object that won't mind handlebar marks)
Stand on the pegs, slowly push kickstarter down until you feel resistance. (take up the slack)
kick downward in a firm smooth motion.
should start 1st or 2nd kick.

In 2003 there were two models of 280.
the TXT Edition 280 and the TXT PRO 280
the TXT Edition 280 had the older engine and frame.
The 2003 TXT PRO 280 had the new pro engine and the new frame.
(I have a 2003 PRO 300 and has been very reliable, the 2002 bikes were the first year for the PRO and were not very good, but some had been retrofitted with upgraded parts)

Found this for the 2011, not sure if everything is the same on yours.

Page 20 shows the crank case. It looks like it is one unit, does not split.

any day riding is a good day, I still rode in T shirt and shorts! But I have been told I ain't quite right
and yes many WGASA renewals....
Had a good time.
-
How about
stopping is ok, balance keep feet on pegs.
stopping with foot on ground or other support not ok and you get a 5
Problem solved. it's ok to stop and get set up time while maintaining control of the motorcycle.
It is not ok to be a kickstand. the bike can do that without you.
enough rules mucking about. the vids are enjoyable
-
Hope you don't forget where you put it when it is time to go home.....
-
Not to worry, at the next marker/section split you will need to turn and use full throttle to blast up the hill,
-
remove flywheel and inspect.
Stay in garage, won't have to see wife's face................works for me
-
Possible pin hole in the diaphragm

What could be better than a smart a$$ comment???

I indeed have an Apico switch. and you bet the poles are reversed.
I may have said Jitsie, originally that is what I was going to order. but being the cheap ******* I am, I went with Apico, slightly less $$$$
