  1. Find a cheap Mini truck , make it reliable , and go ride !!!

I've got a 2012 Nissan NV 1500 Cargo van , That I bought expressly for hauling bikes and camping , but I don't get enough time to go compete , so I use my van for a Daily driver ....But I might put a trailer hitch on my hot rod Miata , just for fun ! But I do LOVE my van !

    Glenn

Talk to Biffsgasgas about how to get that hitch on a Miata.  he successfully pulled a 3 place open trailer with his for many years.  Was the coolest car to roll up in the pits.

And moved some logs etc around the trials property as well.

Also if you need a roof rack on the Miata he is the man that know how to make that happen.

  2. Honestly I don't think it matters which direction they are facing.

I and a friend both have 2003 GasGas 300's and our snail cams face opposite directions.  both work

  3. Change plug, clean carb.

try a different technique.  I went from a Sherco to a GasGas and the starting technique is definitely different.

For the Old BAGG (Old Bad Ass GasGass) I have her either on a bike stand or leaned against a tree or other suitable holding device (truck, friend etc.)

Stand on the pegs (both feet)

place foot on kicker and gently push down until feeling resistance.  (gears engaged)

swift, smooth kick downward and vroom vroom .

After replacing piston and rings she starts up 1st or 2nd kick now.  cold or warm.

before that when cold took many kicks and when warm would require the choke to be on.

good luck, hope you get it sorted and have more energy to ride instead of kicking the bike over.

  4. I too use the 2 winds of electrical tape.  but I use compressed air to expand the grips to put them on and then wire tie them.

    No issues with movement.

I use Pro-taper grips soft compound full diamond pattern.  (cut the end plug out to accept bar end plugs)

  5. In his defense, Freixa has been out of the game for quite some time and is something like 38. So we can probably forgive him a few deep breathes.

I will forgive Freixa a few deep breaths.................hell I get winded walking up a flight of stairs.

But I will not forgive his minder for adjusting the section.  a well deserved 5 in my opinion.

  6. Propa geezer at 63, been into trials for a whole 3 months, also no need to worry about bits as have been wed for 39 years today.

Wife is on holiday in Spain with her mates.....no problem with my `bits` creating any excess baggage problems

You have my congratulations and condolences for being married 39 yrs.

  7. I may or may not be a geezer at 43.

I have been part of that wonderful institution known as marriage for 23 yrs.  So that means I don't need to worry about impacts to that zone, due to the bits that would be injured are stored in my wife's purse............

  8. I had an issue with my rear brake that would lose pressure/grip

I rebuilt the master cylinder twice and it would work for a little while.

turns out the bore of the master cylinder was worn out.  bought new master cylinder and have not had a problem since.

  9. So we renamed it the four seasons trials. it was sunny it snowed then sunny then warm then more snow..... gotta love michigan... or so they say.

on a positive note we had a cool new novice rider and his brother (i think). they showed up in the smagical van!!! WTF im thinking.... well as it turns out its Phils inlaws. Royalty in our little world. Then Phil, the Mrs and her family came and checked out the event. very very cool to have a Smage show up at a local event.

Welp it was a struggle but thats where Bent fenders excels in bad weather.... Its on to Florida when Fanticmatze shows up on wensday. Then a week of me being a hippy in the gulf while she is scared of sharks and such.

    see you all out there!!!

Four seasons really had me confused, so much so that I was wearing pants and a jacket...... total departure from my normal shorts and T-shirt, but in my defense I was an Observer not a rider this time.  I am happy that the final season Mother Nature decided to end on was sunny spring day............it was touch and go for a little while there.

Now speaking of my Observation skills............ I totally missed that Phil, his wife and her family checked out the event.  I was being quite observant of my beverages  .

I did see the Smagical van and the two new riders, nice guys and I think they had a really good time.   They both had big smiles  :D

  10. Car keys? Leave the car at home and ride (slowly) to where you're going.

    Plus points.

    1) Never lose your car keys!

    2) The wife/husband can use the car, thus distracting them and allowing you more time riding.

    Minus points.

    1) Running out of petrol (like I did last week, 10 miles from home in the middle of nowhere!) Thanks to the kind old fella who game me a lift to the garage!

    2) Pheumonia from having the heavens open on you 10 miles from home (see above!)

    Conclusion.

    1) Buy you own land to ride on, preferrably adjacent to the house.

    2) Get the wife/husband to take/collect you from the venue.

    3) Buy a Honda Goldwing (their tanks hold 32,000 litres with an additional 12,000 in the top box and panniers)

    * I don't recommend the Honda goldwing off-road unless the top box and panniers are removed.

Use said Goldwing to pull trailer that carries the trials bike to the venue.  then you won't have to worry about car keys.........................Motorcycle keys will now be a concern, but the car key problem is fixed.

  11. Welcome to the weird world of trials. GasGas makes really good machines, I thoroughly enjoy mine.

but they can be a bugger to start sometimes.

Try this technique for starting the GasGas.

(use the choke when cold and sometimes when hot too.........)

Lean handlebar on tree (or some other solid object that won't mind handlebar marks)

Stand on the pegs, slowly push kickstarter down until you feel resistance.  (take up the slack)

kick downward in a firm smooth motion.

should start 1st or 2nd kick.

  12. In 2003 there were two models of 280.

the TXT Edition 280 and the TXT PRO 280

the TXT Edition 280 had the older engine and frame.

    txt_ed_280.jpg

The 2003 TXT PRO 280 had the new pro engine and the new frame.

    txt_pro2801.jpg

(I have a 2003 PRO 300 and has been very reliable, the 2002 bikes were the first year for the PRO and were not very good, but some had been retrofitted with upgraded parts)

  13. Great time! Heavy rain and cold on Saturday but walked away unhurt and with a bunch of new wgasa membership renewals.

    --Biff

any day riding is a good day, I still rode in T shirt and shorts!  But I have been told I ain't quite right  :dunce:

and yes many WGASA renewals....   :rotfl:

    Had a good time.

  14. How about

stopping is ok, balance keep feet on pegs.

stopping with foot on ground or other support not ok and you get a 5

Problem solved.  it's ok to stop and get set up time while maintaining control of the motorcycle.

It is not ok to be a kickstand.  the bike can do that without you.

enough rules mucking about.  the vids are enjoyable
