  1. Hi Zippy, what model of vivitar camera did you use, cheers.

Vivitar DVR 685HD Picked it up for about $30 US

(not sure if still available, may have been a closeout type thing)

It requires a micro-SD memory card (not included) it will accept a Class 4 or higher card up to 32GB. It has 2 modes for video LO and HI.

what I shot was done in LO mode with a 2GB memory card that is so old there is no class rating on it (came out of an old phone) So I suspect the quality will improve when I get a better memory card.

With some slight modifications it can be used with Go-Pro mounts.

Here's an example with a chest mount:

That is a much better angle, but does it have to be so muddy if I use a chest mount?

  2. Thank you for the kind words.

It is a great place to practice when outdoors is less than desireable to practice in.

Worst part of it is no heat, so for the first hour or so fingers and toes are pretty cold. But once you are moving and warmed up it's not a problem.

OK Question, What about the angle of the camera? Is it good or should it be up or down one "click" on the swivel?

  3. OK here we go. Team WGASA is looking forward to the 2014 Trials season. So much so that we started training on 26 January 2014 at our super secret indoor training compound (one of the members has a building we ride in). This Buidling is great for our use, we ride on the second floor so there is a stairs obstacle and it is well ventilated.....read that as no glass in the windows. Also there is no heat.........the day these videos were taken it was a balmy 11 degrees F (-11.5 C for our European friends) So some of the "smoke" you see in the videos is actually me breathing.

Info on vids, I am using a Go-Pro wanna be made by Vivitar (actually works pretty good) mounted to my helmet. The other guys ride much better than I do, and the videos themselves tend to have some boring bits in them because I still need to learn how to edit etc..... warning there is a swear word or two in one of the vids. but sound is so low because of the waterproof camera holder blocking the microphone. We had a balanced group of bikes, 2 GasGas and 2 Beta.

    Enjoy???

  4. I plan on doing some indoor(?) riding in the next few days. (it's inside but no heat and VERY well ventilated......at least there is no wind)

So I looked the bike over real quick. Last event I rode back in September I broke the long bolt that goes through both dog bones. I figured it was because it got loose. Well I had to tighten it again when I looked the bike over yesturday. It was replaced with a friends bolt off his bike (he was observing the event). So i am thinking new lock nut with a little dab of blue loctite to fix the problem. thoughts? I also don't like the thin washers that are on there, they bend and deform too easily. I want to put new regular thickness washers on the outside of the dog bones, there is not enough room to put regular thickness washers in the middle, but those don't appear to deform because of full contact on both sides of washer.

  5. My dad twisted his knee up really badly years ago riding twinshocks, when twinshocks were the tricked out technology. He tore ACL, had many surgeries, etc... He used a brace that would have looked right at home in a torture chamber. It was prescribed by his doctor. This brace protected from sideways motion, twisting motion and limited range of motion to keep from hyperextending his knee. They worked great when he was riding, but he walked funny with them on. They also would leave marks, sore spots etc...

Now fast forward many years, Much technology has changed with braces.

I had a knee injury and arthritis showed up about 13 years later. I had a "floater" in my knee, and a grinding feeling when walking/squatting. A scope surgery took out the floater, took me about 6 weeks to recover to where I was riding the trials bike again, I rode my roadbike to my 4 week check up. If you have surgery, Do the physical therapy after the surgery, you will heal much faster. My doc prescribed a knee brace for me, my brace is designed to hold the knee apart just a little bit to soften the impact in the knee joint where the arthritis is. I also take celebrex daily and that works for me, I tried the glucosomine thing but it did not make a difference to me. It may work for you, won't hurt to try.

I was very up front and honest with my orthopedic surgeon about my hobby. I showed her a video of me riding and she said "You need a new hobby", I said "that will not happen", she responded with "You need a knee brace".

When the brace arrived I took my riding boot with me for the fitting, to make sure the boot and the knee brace would work together. Wifey thought I was totally mental.

    asc,

Hope the pain stays low or at least tolerable. I have also noticed that the more I move and stay active the better my knee feels.

  6. Stupid question but do you thank the observers at each section as you go around or at the end of the day? (I've yet to compete)

    Cheers

I always thank the checkers, most often on the last loop about halfway through the section I will tell them thank you. Sometimes there is an observer in the middle of the section and a puncher at the end. So I make sure to thank them both.

I do try to thank the others involved but I must be honest sometimes my brain just draws a blank and I am in my own little world.

    1. When in a section does leaning against a tree with my body or bike count as a dab?
    2. Is there normally a fuel area like at an Enduro or can you just go back to your car and fill up when required.
    3. In between sections are you free to stop/get off repair bike/eat/sleep or whatever?
    4. What do you do about food and water, I see trials riders don’t carry a rucksack with their provisions?

    1. depends if the observer notices or would like to count it as one. Don't argue with them. (brushing against usually no dab, leaning against and supporting yourself usually a dab)

2.Generally after every loop I will stop at the "pit area" where the car is, and fill up.

3.yep, do as you like between sections, but remember if you sleep in the trail you will be traction for somebody else. (but yep, observers waiting, so don't be too long)

    4. Provisions, again after a loop get some refreshments the same time I fill up the bike. Food- well some bring a little and some bring an entire kitchen's worth (I usually park next to these guys) water?? is that a new type of Beer?

Hope this helps........or at least made you smile

  7. Hello all.

If there are any local riders to me maybe I can get some tips on how to stop face planting the earth. :)

    Chris.

Welcome to Trials, you will have a great time riding.

Most of us on here will be able to give tips on HOW TO face plant, butt plant, step off, etc...... :chairfall:

How NOT TO do those things escapes the majority of us.

(If you ain't crashing, you ain't learning)
