  1. Zippy, would be asking too much some pics? or even some video!!! :D Ims starting today with the build i guess...at least taking some pallets to the spot...

    VIDEO! you say?? OK!

This one is before I got the elevated log, (chopped down)

This is a practice area for the winter that a friend has indoors, no heat but also no snow.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=btgZd0jar0A

This was a couple years ago in a barn in the winter. Video is a bit shaky but try to check out the use of spools and various wood builds.

I never did ride the "pyramid"

  2. Of course, theres situations when no-stop or stoppy-hoppy-backandforthy is advantageous.... BUT... Having someone to tell you when to go no-stop sounds like someone is changing the rules to win or make someone lose his style... Like when kids...Someone in the losing team suddenly proposses a new rule to his benefit... Get my point? Plus, i dont like that its a really subjective RULE... its attached to peoples appreciation of wahts no-stop and whats not.... I think it sucks... In real trials, dont touch the ground, then... anything goes... If you want to backflp over something that can be plainly ridden over, thats your problem... If you succes, its OK, if not..Thats a five anyways!!

(READ WITH EPIC MUSIC AND SOUNDS EVEN BETTER)

Oh I have already made known in other threads my dislike of the No-Stop rules. But it is actually not new wave, there was No-Stop tried in the 90's and back in the 60's & 70's it was No-Stop. But I do think that No-Stop rules are a backwards step.

Now that that is out of the way, there are many other threads already dedicated to that discussion (interpret that as argument).

Back to suggestions. I have a couple of big logs in the back yard and one is somewhat U shaped so that the middle is suspended. really goo practice on that one. I also made a platform that is 4 ft tall 4 ft wide and 8 ft long. I have the intention of some day doing a splatter on it but have not yet. One end of the platform is butted up against one of my logs and the other end currently has a ramp that is removable, for when I get some guts and decide I don't want to use it.

  3. As a youngster on a TY80 I rode over cars very often (kicker log in front) one time I forgot to pull a wheelie off the trunk and the front end came down and tucked itself in under the car. Over the bars I went. Was pretty funny actually, except for the bar that the rear fender attaches to came up and hit me in the ...... bits. :crying:

Due to being slick cars are best ridden "no-stop" just keep rolling along slowly and smoothly

  4. I have had a Sherco and now a GasGas,

I think a benefit to the GasGas design of the starter gear being only a partial is that the gear disengages from the engine at the end of the kick stroke, so if the engine fires up and runs the kickstarter gear is not touching and if you keep the kickstart lever down for an amount of time the gear will not spin and not cause undo wear.

Have heard of the GasGas design is the kickstart gear will break off teeth if not started with the correct technique.

Were as the Sherco the gear stays engaged and you can hear it spin, etc.. if the kick start lever is in the down position.

Also with Sherco there is a "tab" that separates the starter gears when engine is running, this tab will wear thin and then the two gears will "buzz" and cause undo wear.

Just two different designs, not sure if one is really better than the other. They both work.

  5. Brilliant ! :icon_salut: You're not daft :rotfl:

Man, is that ever a subject for debate...... :hyper:

Zippy, maybe you could wear those "Depends" undergarments for people with no bowel control, and get "filtered air" that way.....

    Jimmie

I may not be "daft" but I am surely not exactly normal in my way of thinking. I seem to be able to hold a good conversation with 5-9 yr olds. Teenagers I can hold a conversation for a good 10-15 mins. Adults?? eh many of them just don't "get" my way of thinking.

HMMM Depends you say? I am not socially conscious enough to actually spend money to make those behind me inhale better air.

On to the helmet, I am using a NZ Tri-Vent, it is a few years old. (not sure if still available) Definitely protects my head (don't ask, just trust me it works) Vented like a screen door on a submarine. Drawbacks, I still sweat like a politician cursed with telling the truth, The liner is not removable so every so often I take it in the shower and wash it out. Most aggravating part is the buckle closure rusted right up about 3 months into owning it.

  6. OH so you're saying have the air drawn through the helmet from the front to the back and then down to the belt. This would work well in diluting the exhaust from the rider. and those behind me would greatly appreciate it. Also if you could hang a car air freshener in the front of the inlet at the helmet it would keep your head and ..... exhaust smelling fresh. like lemon, roses or pine.

  7. Trials will help immensely with Enduro.

Enduro skills transferring to trials.......... I am not sure, but I have seen some Enduro and MX guys switch to trials and they are very comfortable with reving the bike and GOING! they seem to be able to take bigger obstacles easier, but are total crap when they have to make a full lock turn and balance.

So yea, I guess Enduro skills will help trials.

  8. It is a good idea what you suggest! Our club has been doing it for years now. At one time we had over 15 riders on our national team. Two to 4 guys would trailer the bikes out and the rest would fly in. We had several corporate and individual sponsors who paid most of the fuel and we always have our own riding gear. Team New Mexico.

Notice the word "Sponsors"..... which as far as I understand the definition to be. "somebody else that pays the cost of"

What Team WGASA needs are sponsors willing to pay for our fuel, entry fee, etc.... and we can showcase how much fun can be had using their products! because there is no way a Team WGASA member would consistently place in the top 3 in a class ..... well maybe if there is only 2 riders in the class.

Showing how much fun can be had may bring more riders in than having a handful of riders "bringing home the win" on a certain bike, certain helmet, boots or energy drink.

Just my wistful way of thinking and hoping.

  9. Ventilation is air movement, if you are not moving then probably no ventilation.

    Here's an idea!!

A fan unit attached to something like a wait belt and an air duct to the helmet feeding/drawing sounds quite plausible

But a fan on a belt feeding air into the helmet would be too close to my exhaust to be feeding fresh air...............well something would be fresh. :barf:

  10. So I shall give some feedback about why I did not attend the Nationals

$$ I ain't got enough of it to spend on trials.... and as Chuck mentioned, I think that is the largest factor. Now is a reduction in entry fees going to make a big difference? I don't know because my opinion is the travel/lodging/food expenses are so high that for most of us a $20 or so cut in entry fee won't really be noticed. Unfortunately the NATC cannot control the other expenses..........

But maybe regional series (East, Central, West or some variation) may be the way to go, but that would also depend on enough clubs willing to host the events, This is a tough one also, getting clubs willing to host a national event.

Not sure if my opinions matter much because I don't ride the nationals anyways and probably wouldn't at this time ride a regional series either.

  11. I try to be careful, or I get ready to catch hell afterwards...

Yep it can happen even when you take the time to think first............I have been there.

    Ben,

In life don't let thinking first stop you from saying what you believe or want to say. Just try to phrase it correctly and be ready for catching hell.......

Internet posting boards are very poor at conveying nuances of speech, emotion, intent etc, so very plausible that Sting32 would not know that Ben was just frustrated.

So I propose we attach this to every post :boobies: , for no reason other than it makes me smile!!!!

OK time for me to "butt the hell out"

GLAD YOU GOT IT FIXED, CHEAP AND EASY TO BOOT!!

  12. OTF,

Talking Smak = It generally refers to the use of intentionally inflammatory language. "My money and gallons are real, yours are mini." OR translated "My lower body part is bigger than yours"

40-50 mpg and you're complaining about $9.80/ "real" gallon. So if you rode one of my "local" events. at 200 miles round trip (I am luckier than Chuck ours are closer) at average of 45mpg You would spend $43.56. My truck gets an average of 14 mpg. (just bike in back) at $3.79/ "mini" gallon I spend $54.14 so yours is still cheaper. And I believe (may be wrong) but for you to attend a local event you only drive a fraction of that mileage.

Now why do I need a truck that only gets 14 mpg? I am not required to explain to anyone but I will. I routinely tow/haul logs/obstacles for events, firewood for family, haul tractors, backhoes etc... basically it is a work truck and I work it. but it is not what I do for work to make $$. It's a big truck with a big motor and big muscle. Also we can only choose from what is available We don't have vans that get 40-50mpg over here, and even though diesel motors are easier and simpler to produce than gasoline motors they add an addition $8,000 to the cost of a new truck, and used diesel trucks are still priced way out of reach at approx. $6,000 more than a gasoline counterpart

Now factor in that many jobs have dropped wages over the last few years, (some production jobs as much as half), most companies eliminating overtime being worked, an increased cost in health care premiums/prices etc.,

I would LOVE to contest the entire NATC series (I rode one national and LOVED it) but I cannot afford to ride them, that's life.

Let's talk about fuel prices: Europe taxes the heck out of the fuel, (not our fault) Other countries and the oil companies keep saying the US should be brought more "in-line" with the rest of the world for fuel prices. So they try to up the prices, but here's the thing, If the gas prices increase in the US to $9/ gal the oil companies will reap a HUGE profit / gal compared to $9/gal in the UK. So of course the oil companies want US prices to go up, and Europe wants US prices to go up because they are p****d off about paying more because their government taxes the hell out of it.

Point of all this ranting and raving in a nutshell this: Economies suck all over the world right now. Disposable income for hobbies is way down for everyone. So choosing one part of the cost to compare without looking at the whole picture is nothing more than an exercise in argument baiting.

  13. It is a good feeling to show up with a 10 yr old bike, 5 yr old gear, and 15 yr old beer gut with no fanfare or big talking and soundly beat the pants off the arrogant big talker with the new bike and gear and boasting how "fast" they are.

Of course I have never been able to pull this off, so no clue how that feels. :P

  14. haha! yes i do really enjoy it! learning more every day :) want to work somewhere really high performance like mclaren f1 when im older :) yes i now understand about the think before you speak lol.

Stick with it and follow your dreams. Only way to get there is to work for it.

Chalk up the thinking before you speak as a lesson learned early in life that will benefit you later on. With learning that lesson you are already way ahead of many adults I know.
