    Fork Leg Damage

not sure exactly what material your forks are constructed of but I will assume it to be aluminum. Not sure if yours is broke where the clamp would "flex" or where the bolt passes through. but I will share my experiences. On a Sherco I once owned it had a broken off bolt for the pinch clamp. I was unable to remove the broken bolt. So off to the great welder guy that I found. I had to completely dismantle the fork and only take the lower fork tube to him. He then cut a channel where the bolt was and lifted out the material/bolt. Then he filled it in with weld, this also welded the "split" part of the clamp. He drilled a new hole and tapped the hole back to the original sizes. The "split" was recut and the bore for the axle to pass through was smoothed out. I had zero problems after the repair, the repair held with regular torque etc.. of course there was some heat discoloring. I also had him repair my top and bottom fork clamps on the same bike. Where the bolt passed through the clamp portion had broken off. He removed the broken piece and placed a correct size rod of brass (I think) into the threaded hole so the threads would not be affected, and basically rebuilt the end of the clamp for the bolt to pass through using only weld. Then he had to recut the split, smooth out the bore for the forks and bore the countersink for the bolt. This repair (both times) held up beautifully after it was done. It would hold normal torque when clamping the forks and the forks never slipped. So depending on how odd/technical the repair, I would say it probably can be fixed.
  2. Mrs. Zippy just shook her head when I read this to her.
  3. You may do well riding Enduro Cross as well, along with riding trials.
  4. Zippy was being a bit of a twit when he posted about holding the plug and kicking over............................
  5. I Fancy A Coloured Chain And a coloured chain is fancy! (sorry couldn't resist) Friend bought a red chain off ebay for his 04 GasGas 300 and it fits just fine and does the job proper.
  6. Don't know what you talking about Cope? I feel fine :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
  7. This is a site sponsor of Trials Central. So I would assume they are reputable. (Andy don't put up with any BS) http://www.trialendurodirect.com/ Other UK online shops http://www.splatshop.co.uk/ Seen this one mentioned a bit on TC http://www.trialsuk.co.uk/ http://www.johnleemo...ore/welcome.htm I have not personally dealt with any of these suppliers, so I know nothing about them. I just did a google search for "trials motorcycle parts accessories united kingdom" And these came up
  8. hold the plug in your bare hand and have a really good buddy kick the bike over very quickly. you will know real fast if you have juice at the plug,

  10. Welcome to trials and the greatest trials bikes made (GasGas in case you were unsure ) Glad to hear you are having fun.
  11. But if I do that, I won't be able to proudly post that I tried stuff harder than usual and broke the zip tyes! Actually, after the first time I broke them on Saturday I did look at the underside of the rear fender and thought about trimming the stiffeners out.
  12. Last Saturday I went riding for a couple hours and broke the zip tyes holding my rear fender on................twice. So yep I had fun.
  13. I just recently stopped at a gas station with my GasGas in the truck. 3 MX & street riders stopped and chatted with me about trials. The FIRST thing that THEY mentioned was that this is the bike for the sport where they stop, balance, hop around in place and then blast up the obstacle and that is really cool! I had a nice chat with them and tried to point them to the MOTA website for info on our next event and they should come out and watch, maybe in the future they could compete. Trials is UNIQUE in the fact that it is about BALANCE AND CONTROL, and the rules need to find a good middle ground for MODERN events that bridges gap between no stop and stop and hop. Yes I prefer to ride stop allowed, but I DESPISE the "stop w/foot down, take a rest, talk to guy outside of section about how to hit that big log, all day dab" If you can balance (feet up) hop and get set up then ride obstacle you have skill, If you can choose a line and ride through it without stopping and ride the obstacle you have skill. These are just 2 different sets of skills to achieve the same ends. And I believe that the following allows both styles to be ridden. I still think the major points of rules for 5's should be: Stopped with foot down = 5 (you are a kickstand and your bike can do this without you) Stopped balancing = 0 Rolling backwards = 5 (just in the interest of keeping things moving forward in the section) Time limit for Nationals & WTC 90 seconds, out of time = 5 (can adjust lower time if need be) If your problem at club events is section severity, then swallow your pride and ride a class lower that suits your abilities or learn to ride better. Just my opinions
  14. Does Montesa have some sort of Devils Contract with the film industry? Seems like any time a Trials bike is used it is a Montesa! (OH NO now the Montesa nuts are going to post about how it is because it is the best bike in the universe! )
  15. "Oh hey, Look there's a chunk of gold on the ground" "Nope my mistake, was just a shiny rock" Little does he know that the pic of him on the ground is the "gold"

  19. I can think about when I see that pic is "RUN AWAY!!, RUN AWAY!!"
  20. You state that you have tried other 300's and they all seem "flat". The 300cc has plenty of power but the delivery is different than say a 270cc. The 270cc will rev up very quickly right off idle. The 300's take a slight bit longer to rev up/need more throttle to rev up. But when that 300cc is reved up it will rip your arms off. This may be what you are experiencing?
  21. I had a gear box oil leak once on the bottom of the engine at the center gasket. Used some brake cleaner to clean the area up really good and stuck a liberal amount of silicone sealant on it. Making sure to get the sealent into the crack as far as I could also. Held up for a long time..........
