  1. Got a concussion, had to go up a bank with a medium size log in the center, the direction I came at the log there was a tree branch above my head. When I unloaded to go over the log I shoved my head right into that branch, Thank God for helmets, there was a horrendous cracking noise that I heard but unsure if anyone else heard it. Right after it happened my buddies were telling me to sit down and relax in the shade, to which I said "Sure OK" and promptly stood in the sun with my bike for a little bit trying to figure out what I was doing. A few minutes later and I was off and finished the event. The Missus was really upset when I finally told her about 3 days later, She said something about wanting to know when it happens not later. There was a section that the exit was on an uphill, the end gates were about 3/4 the way up the hill. The Missus was watching this one. I had a clean going to the exit. My front axle passed through the exit gate and somehow the entire bike and myself went tumbling down the hill on the outside of the section. Once everything stopped moving, I jumped up and yelled, "THAT'S A CLEAN, THE FRONT AXLE WAS OUT!!" As my wife and the observer were concerned with my health and safety, they looked at me like I was completely out of my mind. A buddy of mine who rides pretty well in our Intermediate class was going up a steepish hill, he just did not have enough juice and gently rolled backward into a tree with his side. Unfortunately the tree was none to gentle when it broke a couple of his ribs.

    2007-290-no Spark?

From one of the "Wayne's Guides" "The factory torque is 73.2 ft lbs" This last time I used my torque wrench set at 73 ft/lbs and one of those rubber strap wrenches wrapped around the fly wheel to hold it in place. Bike was in neutral. HOORAY HE HAS SPARK!!!
  3. OK for the record: The 1999 Gas Gas 270 is a 270cc motor. The 2003 Sherco 2.9 is a 270cc motor. (2.9 or 290 just a marketing ploy to make it sound bigger) Beta is the only manufacturer to have a 290cc motor and that is with the new EVO 2 stroke. Correct me if I am wrong.
  4. The typical Redneck Tool Box Hammers ------4 lb sledge, Ball peen, 16 oz Claw, rubber mallet. Adjustable wrench ----- SAE and Metric Vise Grips -------3 sizes Pliers -------slip joint, channel lock, needle nose. Everybody else had such good serious replies thought we could use a little stupidi.......levity. Start out with just getting the tools you will use the most. Combination wrenches. Ratchet and Socket set. Screw drivers Borrow the big stuff until you have saved enough to buy your own. It took me years to acquire the mass of useless junk that I have.
  5. Just practicing the day before observing my clubs event---riding sections in thought I would try the next class up. Easy 55-Gal drum on it's side, with some little logs next to it. From standing start front wheel inches from barrel, did not give enough gas or enough unloading and got bash plate onto drum and promptly tilted to the right side, "Aaah I thought I will step off and life be good" It was alot farther down than I thought and my foot got tangled in the logs twisted ankle up really good. I came back the next day on crutches to watch for a bit. Wife was worried I was gonna slip and fall in all the new fresh mud from the rain that morning. Many numerous times going over largish log and missing the little "catch" log on other side for front tire and promptly going over bars. It is really kinda funny because it seems If you have a huge crash you break the bike but your body is ok. Little silly crash the bike is fine but you mess your body up.

    Joke

So true, So true. My wonderful wife read this one and promptly said "If you get moody I will slap you upside the head and tell you, I don't care about your silly bike!"
  7. Are sidecars always mounted on the clutch side of the bike? or can they be either side?

    2007-290-no Spark?

Yep itsa lefty loosey. All I got left as suggestions are: 1. Check ground. 2. The "magic box" that send electricity to plug. 3. Pull Flywheel check key (unlikely), check stator. (That's the thingy behind the flywheel that sends electricity, right?) 4. BFH and apply sharp rapid blows to any part of bike you like. Won't help at all but you will feel better.

When my key sheared the flywheel loosened itself up so much I could just pull it off with my hands.

    2007-290-no Spark?

Hey Sam, Not sure if this is gonna help, My bike ran excellent last I had it out. 3 weeks or so later I took it to the barn and would not start. Turns out I sheared the flywheel key. Cheapest I found if no can get locally http://www.mcmaster.com/#98490a160/=oqlaz Didja check where the Spark plug boot connects to the spark plug wire? Justa thought.

    Brake Pistons

Remove and disassemble the caliper. Using compressed air blow air where the fluid passes into the caliper. It is a good idea to have a rag wrapped around the caliper to catch the piston. Replace seals, clean and inspect (possibly replace) piston. Repeat for other half of caliper. Hope this helps.
  14. OK I have a major problem with the part where he states and I quote "It's like so many other things in the stimulus bill, most people don't know really what's in it yet" Also stated "But the dirt bike provision here is a pretty serious thing," This legislation has NOTHING to do with the stimulus bill. This act was passed last August 2008. If he is going to complain and be against a piece of legislation he needs to get his facts straight. Just another loud mouth Republican trying to make the new administration look as bad as possible hoping they will fail. Thinking this is a win for the Republicans. Now that I got that off my chest.....I do agree that the government needs to stop trying to save us from ourselves.

    Interesting

OH WOW!!! I need one of those for my Sherco!!!
  16. well they do say that presentation and first impressions are everything!!!!!
  17. Ya know the typical Redneck Tool Box Hammers ------4 lb sledge, Ball peen, 16 oz Claw, rubber mallet. Adjustable wrench ----- SAE and Metric Vise Grips -------3 sizes Pliers -------slip joint, channel lock, needle nose. Seriously, The usual combo wrenches SAE & Metric, Allen wrenches SAE & Metric, Screw drivers yada yada yada. Ya know all the proper tools to do the job right, or at least very close.
  18. Us Rednecks would use a BFH (Big ****ing Hammer) Where exactly is the tank contacting the frame? Is it possible the new frame is just slightly tighter on the sides and a good firm push would make the tank slide into place? Heat gun may work, but for some reason my brain is screaming BAD IDEA! with heat and flammable vapors and all. But the heat source is not an open flame...........................I dunno maybe bad idea. My 2000 for some reason, age of tank or the fact that frame was knackered and rewelded, my tank did not fit all the way down at the seat area. My fix was to drill a new hole for the top mounting bolt closer to the steering head, in effect moved the whole tank forward and up.

Super Sam, Are you going to debut one of those at your event in April?
  21. It is a shame that it happened. But at least he was doing what he loved and not being miserable at some job just existing. I have seen the video of it and it is a brutal crash.
  22. I bought by 2000 Sherco 2.9 based on the following criteria. It felt and rode better than the 1995 Fantic Section that I had. It was available It was relatively cheap compared to the other 3 or 4 bikes available. After test riding a few bikes over the past few years now I am considering a gasgas 300 when and IF I can afford a newer bike.
  23. Just got to really looking at the new Greeves. If that Big boxy black thing under the rear mudguard is fuel tank, it sure looks like it would be very easily damaged and leak fuel all over.
  24. May want to check the size of the photo. Maximum resolution is 1024X1024 pixels. Max file size is 300K So if file size is for example 250K but resolution is 1250X1250 then the pic will not work. You will need to edit your pic first and resize the pic.
