  1. Tell us why you know more than the dealer who is going to sell them dabster?
  2. For god's sake don't do that!!! The bearings don't float in the hub, they are seated in place and can't be hammered straight through!
  3. I suppose it's quite difficult to define "high performance" on a trials bike, after all, a load of "trick parts" bolted on to your machine won't stop you from putting your feet down, and trials riders know this. It's different with MX bikes as you could always use more power etc. What sort of trick bits are you looking for?
  4. Apparently, there will be 3 models, 1. A "cooking" basic version
  5. It's pretty much what i expected really, impressive, but predictable.
  6. The jumbo motor is a good blank canvas for modification, you have a choice of induction for a start!
  7. Both Aprilia and SWM had rotary valve induction, not crankcase, although Aprilia were the first with water cooling in 1989.
  8. Yes, i think the real riding revolution really hit in about '87 when Jordi Tarres started winning with the full-on trick riding style, but does that make the Beta TR34 revolutionary?.........
  9. I don't mind the fins, all 'proper' bikes should have those it's the shape of the tank and that god-awful rear mudguard that spoils it, i'm not against the bike, good on scorpa for making it but why not just make it look good as well?
  10. Is it me, or does anyone else think they are ugly as hell?
  11. COME ON APRILIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Probably the TLR is the pick of the Japanese twinshocks, simply the best twinshock suspension bar none, and ultimate grip-finding power. 250's are best but you have to be on the ball!, 200's very capable and smoother.

    Tlr 200

If you are getting a 200, try not to get the white "reflex" model (steel rims, tall gearing etc) as this was more of a trail bike version than the red/blue TLR200. Parts are available from places like David Silver Spares at surprisingly cheap prices sometimes, but, being a Honda you won't need the same volume of spare parts as a Spanish twinshock. Use high quality oil and change it regularly, no more than 5 trials between oil changes max. Generally they are super-reliable and can find grip where other bikes struggle, the 200 is smoother and easier to ride than the 250, which can be a bit harsh off the bottom but has plenty of poke. Try http://www.hondatrial.de/ , it's in German but has pictures of all the Honda 4 stroke trials bikes.
  14. It's easy to see why people spend time and money on old bikes, it's their interest, their hobby and they want to make their pride and joy look a bit different to the others. It's exactly the same as thousands of spotty youths up and down the country "modifying" their vauxhaul novas! At the end of the day, modifying old trials bikes any amount won't make you a better rider, but people ENJOY tinkering with things, especially motorcycles!
  15. The colouring on the alpinestars stops the leather from absorbing any oil you use to try and waterproof them, so they always leak, however i have had mine for a few years and they are still going strong but they do look tatty when the colouring wears away.

    Eating Plugs

In the UK, whiskering generally means small strands of metal shavings spanning the plug electrodes!! If you have this problem then some component in the engine is busy "machining" another one away!

    4t

Sorry Dabster, i think i started them off down that road with a simple question to which i got the reply above! There is something seriously wrong with the school system if 12 year olds can't compose a simple sentence.

    4t

What fuel do the 4 strokes use at the SSDT?
  19. Those pics have been published somewhere before a while ago, definately.
  20. Check the fuel tank vent hose is clear, and also the tap and fuel filter in the carb are also clear.
  21. Actually the silencers were very similar to the old SWM ones, probably a direct copy as they used the same engines. Those 280cc rotary valve engines were capable of a lot more power than a horrible old TY250R, you had to alter the disc timing first.

    'boost Box'

If i remember rightly, Boost bottles were fitted to the Yamaha majesty I think to divert inlet mixture when the throttle was shut, then, when the throttle was opened again, the engine was fed by this charge held in the boost bottle for a more instant response. I'm sure someone will correct me but i think that was it's function.
  23. Doesn't everyone use antiseize on their bikes? It's the first thing you do when you get a bike, especially a NEW one!
