    Suspension setup

Most blokes do nothing with their suspension and then go on to say how good it is. Strange really because suspension gets worse with age. Set the front & rear spring to get 1/3 sag when you stand on the bike. Be accurate with this and get a friend to help set it up. I check this every 6 months(ish) because springs set with age. There is no law for setting damping settings for your riding style. There are few of rules though......Expensive dampers work much better than your factory shock - sad but true - try one they are great, Dampers and the oil wear out and need rebuilding (if the rebound adjuster has no effect to speed on the shock - it needs a rebuild), Compression damping helps resist bottoming out, Rebound controls the action AND GIVES YOU TRACTION!!!!! (set it fast to do tricks...... and it'll suffer up the hills or in the mud), Roughly set the rebound so it slows the rebound action - then experiment either side of this setting.
  2. Squirt of spray paint on the grip and the bar. Push it on. No lock wire. Done.
  3. What a load of balls. Do you fall over when walking or stood still? No? Then you will be fine, you have enough balance. One tip on balance is to keep your torso vertical and shoulders horizontal while riding (not stiff like a board though!). If you dab a foot down it is likely you leaned away from the bike a little or dropped your shoulder. Watch a friend walk up a hill / bank / stream..... your body position should be the same even though you are riding a motorcycle. Ralphy

    Chain tention

I agree with RichT..... set it slack so the tensioner is just off the swing arm when in the carpark. My chains last ages so i am finally doing something right. Also use the spray on Maxima Cain Wax.... brilliant stuff and i never have to degrease the chain/sprockets.
  5. If it helps you then turn the rebound adjusters out........ But be warned you will KILL traction that your bike can get when things get difficult such as hills, mud, rocks. Rebound damping is put there to control the shock..... not so you can turn it off to help a hop.
  6. Hey Jase welcome aboard. Happy to talk Beta 4T any time. Ralphy
  7. Sorry but isn't that a little dumb. ...you should chose the bike you love/enjoy/want not the one the accountant wants you to have.
  8. Remove a glove. Press it over the tail pipe to block the gasses. It WILL work..... but it WILL be hot! Never failed for me.
  9. I've ridden a modern beta 125 and have been amazed how much power it has. It will rev lots and sometimes you need to ..... but mostly you don't rev it much harder than a 250. Give Paul a call and talk to him. You'll get an honest answer
  10. Most of the jumping comes from technique rather than suspension settings...... if you have the suspension too soft and bouncy you will loose traction on the slippy stuff. Saying that start by checking you only have 1/3 sag at both front and rear when you stand on the bike. Adjust the springs until it is correct. Then adjust the rebound damping to just slow the stupid fast spring action.
  11. I saw this bike in the weekend. I'd say it is in great order. Paul is a careful rider and i can't remember seeing him throw the bike. Price seems fair. FWIW this 125cc bike pulls an adult around, is dead light to ride, he never seems short of hp and he'll place some where top in his class Great bike Ralphy
  12. ....Errr i haven't seen the advert, but poor spelling is not such an indicator Totalshell.
  13. Feck they are way out. Were you on the bike with a stance as in your normal riding? Most bikes have between 165 - 180mm rear travel. You will need to find the spec for your bike to check. But........Taking an average of 172.5 then 1/3 of this is 57mm sag. You'll have to get a spring 'C' spanner and start winding some tension into the back spring. Front is typically 160mm travel so you should set 53mm sag. One of the fork legs should have an adjuster on the top to tension the spring.
  14. Straight up and down for the first portion of the bars (the lower curve) sets you up on the bike for a comfortable stance. Then try it a little forward and then back to experiment.
  15. Hey Tom. All trials bikes should be set to 1/3 sag with you on it. Front and back. Be mm accurate! Use a tape measure from two fixed points. Have a friend help you get this right and use a wall for balance (don't let it influence the sag). If you have to wind on some tension to the spring, you may have to readjust the rebound damping. The rear shock should have a damping adjustment - turn it in or out to so that the shock just takes the speed out of the return action. Soft-but-not-fast is what you are looking for. Don't forget to do the front. REMEMBER without rebound damping you will struggle to find traction . Ralph

    Ssdt 2011

    Great video... well done.
  17. 20mm higher bars for me and I'm 6'2". Brilliant. Get em.
  18. Well if money wasn't an issue i'd buy....... EVO 300, put on a TRP shock, put on an Arrow exhaust to save weight and a bit more go, and if it was still down on power (not likely really) then i'd get a factory cam )
  19. I rode one for 10minutes (so not that well informed really) .... and thought it was a nice bike, good go up top end revs, hesitation at the bottom (could be air screw adjustment), a wide feeling and looking bike. I went for the beta cos of the lovely engine and lower price.
  20. Left right up down.... the Vincent had an upside-down shift action. Barmy but brilliant more tan once i shifted the wrong way.
  21. I've had both. You guys my be missing a point. Servicing! I have my Beta4T apart to do the valves right now and it is a demanding/technical job that many people don't know how to do. I find it easy and enjoyable but do have friends that wouldn't want the hassle. Oh and i bet i spent less on oil with my 2T than i do on the 4T. I still think the 4T is a better bike.... for me.
  22. If the nail varnish fails try a hard black paint.

    4rt Temperamental

Check (carefully) for high voltage leakage between the plug and coil.... you may have insulation breakdown and the plug isn't getting a spark.
  24. That is just nuts. Clean the freek'n thing with clean petrol and let it evaporate over night. I bet a lot of money it made no difference.
