  1. Remember I am in the UK where trials are now pretty well all no stop rules.

The most important precise control in trials is throttle - why are cables used for that if they are so poor in comparison to hydraulics?

Karting - braking is one of the most crucial aspects of Kart racing yet quite a few drivers prefer cable to hydraulics.

MTB - I have limited personal experience of this but have found both hydraulic and cable disc brakes to be satisfactory and well up to the job. I know of quite a few MTB riders or dads of who find working on hydraulics intimidating whereas most can fix cable systems. I know of a group were on a MTB holiday in Skye and the western isles. The only one who had brake trouble was the rider with hydraulics. He lost 3 days of the weeks holiday and incurred quite a bit of expense travelling back to Oban to try to get his bike fixed.

I reckon the price difference between hydraulic and cable systems is between 2 and 4:1.

Send us hydraulics here please because they may not work for you or your region but they sure make it fun to ride here. Many inaccuracies with your statement but I don't think pointing them out will be constructive.

Why exactly is there a desire to have a world of absolutes in these topics? Sure there are advantages and disadvantages of everything but cramming personal opinions down peoples throats without an open mind and with bias takes away from whatever is attempting to be communicated. One mountain bike rider who took three days to fix a hydraulic system won't exactly sway me against the system.

  2. I don't think there's anything wrong with Vertigo doing development in the open. But the impression people seemed to have gotten was that when the bike was announced, it would be for sale soon after. The fact that its been so long and you still can't buy one takes a lot of the bloom off the rose.

I was thinking that too. The Chevy Volt was talked about for years here in the states before it was ever released. So much so that people thought it was outdated and yesterday's product before you could even buy one.

  3. Hello there fellow gg riders. Had a bit of an issue with the Mrs bike last week. She has had more slipping clutches than reasonable for a 2012 250 ridden gentle. Going into clutch number 4 last weekend she was prepared with the shurflex fiber disks. The problem is the are about .5 mm thicker than the OEM discs. Now I know the target is 9.75-9.85mm and I would have taken even 10mm.

The used OEM discs were 1.75-1.9mm thick but these new ones were 2.3mm thick. We didn't have enough of thinner steels to make up the difference so I tried to mix and match old and new but that didn't fix our slip even at correct height. We eventually tossed in all of the new thick clutches and had a hard heavy digital clutch as expected.

When I got back to her place I went and got her a pre measured pack online and convinced her that the 35€ a liter elf 75ww with synthetic eye of newt and frogs tears was the culprit for repeat issues.

So did she buy the wrong pack or has anyone else been sent a thick set too?

  4. Online.... No you won't find much. If you call around you will find stuff. Spark plugs on the kroo were short and weird so when you find em snatch them up. Having stuff shipped from Europe isn't as bad as you might think. Most countries there have 19% tax but that gets removed when shipping here so that balances out the shipping. Post in the fabric section and call USD parts dealers for who has what.

  5. What they make as income and a happy life is not linked in many regards. Us "Mericans" know people who make money, are miserable and pose a good life with big things. This causes many Americans problems. Its causing other countries problems too when trying to follow this model.

If they are smart they will bank and invest their money. They should create a bubble that will elevate them to the next level. IMHO Jordi has done that to the T. Sammy Miller has done that to the T. Mick Andrews has probably traveled the US and drank more beer and stayed with more people who have been happy to have a celeb in their house than most people I would ever get to shake hands with.

Income comes with checks and balances. Happiness and accomplishment are those checks and ballances.... You can't put a price tag on. Put a price tag on not knowing your boundries. What will a Raga or Bou company bike look like. Pretty exiting when you think about it.

  6. So as I prepare for a two week vacation in Europe starting this week I am reflecting on some of the cool things I will be missing and what I need to make my way to when I get back.

In Michigan this weekend near Ann Arbor (Go Blue!) we have the crew from Whitmore lake aka Metro Trials putting on their event:

Also this weekend in Columbus IN is Stoney Lonesome... Epic property with a two day event that will leave you tired and a great smile on your face.... :D

Then almost as soon as I get off the plane I'm off to just South of Lansing for the Michigan Vermontville event Mid Mich. (face left hand palm forward and point to the middle of the palm for the map) Epic two day....

Thinking about this Kentucky event.... Vintage baby vintage!!!

Then to cap off the season in style come to the A.M.A. hall of fame. Yes we get to ride at a Museum property!!! How cool is that? Lets see if I can draw a bunch of Michiganders down. Thank Trav D if you see him for helping make that happen.

I know I am missing a ton of events here but in the EU I will make up for it by riding the Mrs bike at AMC Kerzenheim.... if she lets me. :D

Where are you all riding??? Anything fun coming up that we might or might not miss?

  8. Wow you have walked in so many of our shoes. Great post! Trials is a very personal struggle. I've been riding 31 years and I still get those first lap jitters. At the end of the day you are just out there to have a great time? If you lose focus on that you will be miserable. Find a way to relax and enjoy that ride!!! You have the Team WGASA spirit.
