Yeah I remember him as a riding when i was a kid checking nationals too. I guess its a strech to say that he is one of us since he has more skills then my team put together but he was and still is one great guy. Needless to say but its nice to see exposure when it is due. --Biff

I was at vintage bike days a couple of years ago on my txt 280. I had ridden the demo and wanted to cool off and go for a ride. So I dawned my usually atire (shorts and flip flops) and went for a cruise. I stopped by to watch the moto x and when I went to leave i missed the kick starter and the end of it went into my calf about 2 inches. I toughed it out and have a scar to show from it. Im dumb so i still ride in shorts and flip flops often.... --Biff

I know that we are all members on this side of the pond of that little organization out there AmA. We also get their little magazine that promotes legislation and government stuff and some Harley rides though our beautiful country. I usually flip through it and file it promptly after realizing that our sport has very few articles and that we don't see many people coming down on us trials riders. Its nice to see that they still recognize us and our pro riders out there to an extent but this month I found to great articles that are related to trials! Due to copy right laws I can not post them but page 58 has a nice little blurb on Curt Comer and his stellar year.... Go gasgas! And happier news is the beef embargo motorcycle thing that our government was thinking of passing. Way to go AMA! Page 18. I know that they had a part in the process and I feel that this organization stood up for me and pointed out one of us. Hats off to that. --Biff

I can't see how this will fly... and april first is far from march first.... The natc rule book makes no mention of this and if they do relase this rule then they should get on that with a confirmation..... I won't ride what the pro's ride and they would get extreemly board riding what I ride. This sport is all about ability. I agree that its not fair that I don't have any abilities but I can only blame neumerous beers and my tv for keeping me in front of it. I couldn't agree with you more Cope. The Dunlop and Mich are the best in the mud and wear just about the same. I can't tell the difference. Up here i get them from Tires unlimited Which is not as good as what other people are posting here but I get them next day because I am close. I noted that these prices have gone up a lot since enduro guys have been paying attention. On a side note. It seems that the enduro guys have been bringing back the Pirelli hour glass tread pattern Trials tire. I remember these being oem on the Aprilia's back in the day. I had a few on my ty350 back then. Are they legal any longer? I don't think so since they are not block style but can some one confirm. I loved pirelli in the front because it seemed to grab on anything especially in the mud. Nylon is a thermoplastic and not a thermo set plastic so it can be heated and formed to an extent. However are you sure that this tank is nylon? I don't know thats why i am asking. Nylon swells with fuel and water. I thought that these were Polly Ethelyn. Regardless both can be heated and moved a bit. Don't go nut and try to keep it below 350 degrees. Most nylons melt around 450 but get soft around 300 degrees. PE is about the same with temperature if not slightly lower in temp. Regardless most of these tanks have a memory so if you heat and move it don't be surprised if it bounces back to where it was in the future. Probably after you have set it into the frame. This is where Zippy's pry bar is most usefull. Get her in there! Enjoy the new frame. --Biff

I love my 04 300 and I ride it just about every week for at least 4 hours even in the winter. In the summer i am on it twice a week at least for about 10 hours per week average. I change the oil every 2nd or 3rd ride. I have to lube the swing arm bearings about every two months. I clean the air filter when its dirty. I would rather prefer riding it than working on it and thats why I ride gasgas. I am riding expert here in Michigan so I do break levers and tear grips but I can't mention many times when the bike didn't let me ride. So for a bike to learn on 300 or a 280 would be perfect. You will note how the 250 will feel under powered especially out there. I rode my 300 up to the top of castle rock a few years back (he he don't tell the town) and it did fine with no jetting change. You would want to change your jet up there but local guys like eurodirt would be able to help you out. With a trials bike you will find that you will not beat up on the machine as much as your other bikes. 10 hours a week speaks for mine. One tip. Your nature will tell you to hold on to the bike when it gets away from you. Don't do it. Let it go. It will be fine. I will be in Englewood then Vail next week skiing. Tell them to turn on the snow machine for me. --Biff

Why would sherco put a water passage through the base gasket? Is the water pump inlet or outlet cast into the lower case half? I guess a close look at one would probably explain that to me. I'm just afraid of catching something.... I know that one of the case half bolts on shercos are used to drain oil. Does a case half bolt go into the bottom end on a sherco? A lot of 2 strokes out there have acess to the bottom end for pressurization and checks of the crank seals. This may save you the hassle of removing the jug again if you haven't already. --Biff

Yeah i dont have them any more either. About 2 or 3 crashes and they become floppy then another day or two of riding and they were done for. 250 dollar lesson learned. The bike looks very trick and clean. Running in the snow is like mud for me but with studs i cant imagine. Some day i will follow suit. Have fun! --Biff

Yeah it was 23 here this morning too but it had a minus sign in front of it. I had an hour off for lunch and came home today. I left the car running and when i went back out the car was thawed but it thawed just enough to freeze the door seals back to the car door jam. Thats a first for me and I am a life time northerner. Wow great job David! If you cant beat em give em the flu. I like that! We have that great old riders move all the time here in michigan. It totally has you change the lay out of your trials to accomodate but at a certain point you try not to change it too much. Our intermediate class has our seniors in it. We usually get about 90 points from our lesser riders and 2 to 0 points from our moved down seniors. It poses a problem for us. --Biff

Jon and Cope may both be right. If you don't let the piston retract fully it won't open the compensation port or the "By-pass port" as they call it here in this picture. Generically this is pretty much how your ajp looks inside too (except for one port instead of two shown here). Here's a tip. With the cap off you should get a squirt out of this port when you pull the lever. If you don't then the piston is in too far in and the piston is not pulling far enough back to get to this port open. Yes there are rebuilds out there for this that come with a new piston orings and spring. I wouldn't get orings from the hardware because these are specific for brake fluid and larger than what is needed orings will cause it to stick in the bore. The cir-clip can rust at the end under the boot and cause the piston to stick in the bore too. --Biff

So let me break this down by region.... East coast north-- Yeah its snowing there too huh? Any indoor stuff going on? Any planned travels? I used to ride in the snow and make a groove then try to ride that groove time after time. (mud rut training) Snowboarding and skiing must be happening out there by some of you. GO patriots! East Coast south-- My glimmer of hope is another fun in the sun two day. Its florida. Its bike week. Its a great time. Im the pastey white dude on the beach half naked at 55 degrees out. (thats tropical for me) (no pictures please). For those of you who have not been. Its great and at hard rock this year. I hear ahrma will be in greensville? bummer. Still on the fence about getting there. Cope the daughter and fta group would both love a visit! TTC is staying busy from the sounds of it. Keep it up Dan! Ron2 or 3 evo's are probably keeping you busy. South-- Ok texas and Arizona we know its like 75 obnoxious degrees right now and that you have perfect traction and all. Hmmm that could be it. Did you rise your bars too? I 6.0 feet and have ridden scorpas and montesa with set bag pegs and feel hunched after the mod. The engine is very smooth but i was not doing anything crazy. --Biff

Any of the modern 280 290 or 300 bikes can get away from you. The 300 is definitely on the high end of that. In low rpm twisties they all feel the same. If you get it what you will notice is that no matter what your situation if you twist the throttle it will go... with or with out you. One piece of advise, if you aren't going with it let it go. It will be fine. If you hang on it will take you to places you may or may not want to be. I had never been able to pull a wheelie in high gear in any other bike but this one. Im a bit power hungry and love mine. --Biff
