  1. If it happens again open up the bleeder to see if your retaining pressure in the caliper. (front or rear)

If you are then your piston (front or rear) is not returning all of the way and opening the compensation port. Back off the adjuster and retry.

If your not retaining pressure then its mechanical and not hydraulic. I am assuming that you removed the rear wheel? Make sure its straight... If its asquew then it will drag on the caliper. Make sure that the front axle and forks are not spread appart as the left fork holds the caliper. Loosen the axle and let the forks relax.

For best performance go for a ride creek mud ect... but just to get them to stop dragging something is up.

Sorry guys, but as you are not LOCAL, I have no way of monitoring the wear and tear on the Chinese goods, yourself, or the minder to see which one lasts the longest!!!

    Local no I guess not

    But LOCO most definately.

OK serious questions, Is there a US importer? How much gonna cost? Is there really 3 bikes to be tested by riders?

I would be interested to find out how well they hold up and some pics of said reliability and testing would be nice.

    :o

I think we have to go to texas for to see the xispa zippy. I think huffy bicycles is looking for a poster child. You might want to hit up Walmart.... Hmmmm lets see Texas or Oklahoma in January or Michigan..... Hows the clutch in your truck? If not then we will have to take the Miata.... :rotfl:

  3. This Topic was not to get your attention !

Which Andy were you trying to get the attention of if not the moderator?

I dont mean to press but the mans name is in the title......

-Now this is a trials site and i have never riden an Andy Trials Motorcycle (get your mind out of the gutter)

-I have never ridden AT Andy (there probably is a town out there) (now they can post the results from the Andy property when its up and running due to this topic)

    - have never heard of a trials skill called Andy (however if i ever develop an unusual manuver i might just name it Andy for his efforts on this site and in rememberance of this topic) (that manuver may end up in a 5 knowing me)

Next time name the topic "Andy Don't Read This"

He responded to me promptly the other day on a silly question.

Thanks Andy for the quick reply and thanks for taking the time.

I have been guilty of airing dirty laundry here in the past. I dont think any body less of it and we all get to that point especially if we think we have been ignored. Its not nice but give the guy some credit. We have it easy as users.

  4. Sam,

You gotta admit it does look cool!!!!

Did we mention ALL WGASA members need the tattoo?

wait wait wait since i am sorta kinda ish president of wgasa and i dont like needles..... well if its for the cuase and if we get me drunk enough then maaaaayyy be.

Mxpasp dont be alarmed.... We are a bunch of goof balls who love to ride. If we dont see you this weekend or at bent fenders 23rd then ann arbor is the 30th. Come ride!

  5. I wouldnt give up so easy on that.... Before you buy a whole new top end bring the bike to a small time local bike shop or even better yet a machine shop. They may be able to remove that bolt in bike using an easy out. If they need you to take the cylinder off its better then replacing the whole thing. If it came down to it you would probably be able to use your old piston anyway. If your in the states give Ryan Youngs shop a call. www.rypusa.com

  6. This post has been up since 6:43, if it were a GasGas the wheels would have fell off by now!

    I think he is right!

If it were a Sherco it would still have the training wheels on.

Thats the first thing to come off of a GasGas. You dont really need em the bike ballances itself.... good call copemech

  7. Hi Biff,

I've never heard of this happening in my 15 years of riding/fixing GG. Only reason the gears would seize together is due to excess heat probably from lack of oil. In the older motors, I always ran with 700ml of Pennzoil 10 weight mineral, following dumping the original contents (when hot). You may also have a problem with the centre muffler (silencer) as sometimes these were sited quite close to the top of the clutch case, right where the kickstart shaft is, and may even be rubbing on the top of the case, heating it up.

The gear shaft would likely be case hardened only, so perhaps when you had it turned down the machining may have gone through the case hardening layer, or and more likely, when the gear/shaft heated up and welded together, the heat would have destroyed the case hardening.

I'd recommend a new shaft and both gears, yes, the number 11 too, they don't cost much and it may have also been damaged by the excess heat. I have seen these gears (number 11, trinquette) have their saw tooth gears rounded off as though the gear was not correctly hardened in the first instance - it was easily filed back into shape to last out till a replacement was available.

    Bye, PeterB.

I have been working on these things for just about as long. The orginal reason why this happened was that the kick starter came out when the bike and its rider failed at an obstical. The bike landed on the kick starter and started to come back and engage. At that same moment the bike went wide open away from anybody to shut it down. The bike finally stalled when the kick shaft ciezed and came into the foot peg. Its one of those freak one in a million accidents. We have new shaft and gear on the way. I think that we did go through the case hardening and we tried to go the cheap route orginally with out putting too much thhought into it. I think you guys were right.

  8. Well, since the cat is out of the bag, 3 bikes of the initial shipment will be allocated to local experts for testing and evaluation. The package includes everything needed for competition at NO cost! All you have to do is show up and ride!

Wheels, brakes, tires, batteries, levers, grips, mudguards, bearings, clutches, dildo, fuel, travel costs, food, beverage, fanny pack, hats, baseball shirts, black boots(military), knee pads, gloves, Wranglers and helmet!

If you don't like the bikes, you or you fat minder can go screw yourself! He He He! :icon_salut:

Any takers for a full factory ride!

Oooooo full factory ride???? I dont think that i would canidate for the xispa poster child. Unless they want their poster child stuck under a bike. I am on the bottom of the expert totem pole.... Hmmmm put my name in the hat.

  9. Now the pro is a bit different than the jt or txt but on the jt and txt the line comes infront of the swing arm like this.

I have an old line in the correct routing like your bike should be. Yeah its tight but this is what it should be like. Above the swing arm, around the front then in and thru.

  10. It is not correct. Sorry about my delay in reply. The hose has to go to the outside of the case not the inside of the swing arm. So to fix this you have to remove the swing arm bolt and pull the swing arm off enough to slip that hose to the outside. I promised a photo and i totally forgot. I have a large posted note stapled to my forehead to go take a picture of mine as soon as i get home. ouch.... I get out of work at 6pm eastern time. Again sorry about the delay but the hose goes on the outside of the swing arm not the inside like yours is routed. It will sneek by the kick start and brake light switch around the end of the swing arm.

  13. Why did he quit scorpa?

I am not sure if he quit scorpa or scorpa quit him..... Acutally guys from NY (jriley) want to chime in here.

I used to live near mike before he bought tryals shop from florida (early 90's) He had a great importer ship for Montesa and in the 80's (when Montesa was in limbo) he was the importer for the aprilia climbers. Mike runs a great shop in a very small town burried in the hills of Centeral New York. The only other business in town is a gas station and a blinking yellow light. He lives for this sport and lives on the sport. Who knows this may be his chance to take on another importer ship but importing bikes is a head ache. If your ever going through new york stop on by his shop. He has a lot of water falls to ride on as well. :icon_salut: gotta love those water falls.

  14. Yamaha put trials on the global map. They are the clubmans bike. Since 98% of the trials world rides at the club level i feel that they were the most important.

ty80 and ty175 in the 70's were the first and second bike of so many riders.

In the 80's the mono ty's were the hot ticket.

You could walk into any dealership and get parts. (here in the states thats extreemly rare for trials)

In 1992 my father and i walked into a dealership in northern canada. There was a brand new pinky ty250. Yamaha forced the owner of the shop to take the bike. He had no clue what trials was and sold it to us for 800 bucks canadian. In my opinoin i applaud yamaha for pushing their bikes into the world.

  15. mxasp,

    Welcome to trials centeral!

If your in mid michigan i am assuming the lansing area ish...?

We have a group called mid michigan trails based out of chelsea/vermontville. The property owner out there is named Aaron. He speratically comes on here but i know that he rides about twice a week minimum. That bums me out because he usually beats me.

I live in Dearborn but ride in flint with my club about once a week. I am not sure exactly where you are but i also ride here in dearborn about once a week as well.

We also have a bunch of guys out near traverse city and grand rapids. We only have members as far north as gaylord and as far south as south bend indiana/ Goshen indiana. With that being stated i can help get you intouch with somebody to go riding with. Tomorrow we have an event up just north the pallace of auburn hills. www.motatrials.org next saturday i will be up in flint getting ready for our trials. Welcome to come join if you want. There are about 60 die hard trials riders in michigan and another 25 or so who come out just to play everyonce in a while.

    Email me biffscell@yahoo.com

  16. With Ryan being peed over the big ones, not sure about the parts situation!

Well if they are that similar to the sherco then the parts may already be here....

We need to disect one of these things. Untill then i think the rumor mill will be running three shifts.

    --Biff

  17. hahahahaha you know your probably right that recycled atf is not the best.... (joke)

You bring up a great point. We probably did loose the harness on the shaft. hmmmmmmmmm

Yeah we put oil back in. I found out when tearing it down that he was using the pro oil amount orginally (350cc) and not the txt (600cc). I put it to the 600cc that was needed.

I bet your dead on cope..... BRILIANT! ok off to order some parts (again with my tail between my legs in defeat)

    --Biff

I can see taking a family there and having the convinence of being near it all and away from it all....

I will do it again some time.

  19. Ever have one of those days when nothing mechanical goes right?

    I need help....

Actually this is my buddy Marcus's bike from germany but it is a 2004 txt 280 not a pro.

I used to have a 2000 and have worked on many so i should know this but since the bike broke twice i am looking for others who may have had this problem.....

Ok get to the point Biff...

Have this pdf link up when reading this http://www.gasgas.com/Gas-Gas-Media/pdf-s/kickstart.pdf

You have the Kick starter shaft. You have the gear that free floats on the kick starter shaft mated to the clutch basket gear.

About 2 months ago this gear welded itself to the shaft durring a trials. See attached pdf link number 8 welded itself to number 9.

Upon tear down i found very little oil and a whole lot of water. Sweet (i thought) it was a water pump seal. Easy enough.I was able to press the gear off of the shaft but destroyed my press in the process.

So after a huge parts debockle we got a new gear (number 8), new water pump seal (shaft looked good), gasket for case half, new c clip (number 10)

The shaft (this maybe where we went wrong) we had turned by very experienced machinst here in detroit. (We both work for automotive companies)

Well we put it all back together and it ran for about 15 mins before the shaft and gear became one again.

That being stated has anybody out there in gasgas world had this problem. If so then did you have the problem happen twice?

I think we are at the point where we need to replace both the gear and shaft together but we noted that there is no bushing and both of these materials seem to be the same and since there is only oil splashed here i can not see how they would fail again.

This never happened to me on my 2000 and i had that apart a lot.

    Thanks in advance....
