That Sunday drop off scared the p out of me. On my second loop i smacked my helmet into that over hung rock pretty hard after the landing. It really wasnt that bad but very scarry to think about. Just do it dont think about it. --Biff

I just realized something here. Florin timed out on section 12 in the last loop had a 3 took a 5. Then he ended up loosing the day by 1 point..... Oooooo so close you could have tasted it!!!!! That is great competition right there. Smage is a spot on rider. Nice work! --Biff

Looking at sundays scores Cody got me by only a couple of points. DARN! one less 5 couple less dabs story may have been different. Such is life in the world of trials. Hats off to the TI team for putting together a great trials. Even with the rain there was a surprising amount of traction. Tons of fun. Pat had a pretty bad crash on 12 on sunday on his first loop. Andrew looked tired but the kid kept going. --Biff

I have a tough time with the heat and humidity but i am one of those snowed in people. Detroit will be -30 in the winter at its coldest where we are usually 0-20 for most of the winter. In the summer it gets up in the 100's for a couple of days but this city is 90% pavement next to a lot of lakes so its a dull humid heat. So I have to cross train both ways. If its 35 degrees and raining I will ride. If its 0 degrees i will ride. If its 90 degrees i will ride. Your body will adapt but if it can not then it will shut down. You really need to know your limit. --Biff

Alan, As it turns out there is a Us Natc National this weekend in Dayton Ohio. So be prepared to get the die hard ahrma crowd. It is always an unfortunate thing when you have two trials landing on the same weekend within 4 hours from eachother.... what to do what to do. That is the kind of anxiety i can deal with. hahahahah keep yer feet on the pegs! --Biff

Thanks for the input guys. I took what i was already doing glue but added wire to the outside of the grip. As my handlebars seem to find the ground often and at high velocity i realized that i had a lot of dirt under the old grips. If i keep that dirt out of there i probably have more of a chance keeping them alive. The wire on the outside seems to have really helped this weekend. The other part is not crashing. I did to much of that trying to save a dab oops now i have crashed this weekend but i am pushing myself so its all good. Thanks again! Keep up the feed back. I am making a list here. --Biff

Good thought on the altitude training! When I was a kid my parents and I went out west and we rode a trials near Donar pass. I remember almost passing out and puking! Thanks for the answer guys..... I am replacing my grips in the normal last minute fasion today. Upon talking to my buddy this morning he said that he uses paint??? to help attach his grips. I conventionally use Glue. I have in the past used mechanics wire but always end up cutting my self after a long trial with the sharp end comming out from under the wire or comming untucked at the wrong moment. I tried searching for a previous post on this but couldn't find one so i thought i would start one. What do you use to attach your grips? Thanks in advance. --Biff

Brian is correct. Stopping and hopping didnt become the norm until the mid 80's. Rules allowed stopping and hopping back then because it was not easy. As the bikes evolved in the late 80's and early 90's hopping backwards became the norm because it was a challenge but once the skill was mastered it be came over done. In 92 in a world round i watched a guy make 6 attempts at a hill by backing up. It took about 10 mins for him to get through the section. That is when they started to implement time limits. Eventually it was still a free for all being able to hop all day long forwards sideways what ever. Stick with the the basics of the bike erara. If your going to contest prepared to get shot down. --Biff

Durring the season I eat a bananna every day and durring the event i take 99mg potasium supplements. I have been doing this two years now and it really helps me. If i drink tons of beer the night before i ache all over but ehhhh i am not so inclined as to make me 100% every event.... Try bananna's for a week and see what that does. --Biff

So there I was feeling good about my ride on the gasgas last monday... (memorial day here in the states). It was my birthday on the 31st comming up and I was surfing on line thinking about what massive project to take on next. I was on the local craigs list and what did i see!!!! Honda tl 125 trail bike... (not trials yep described it as a trail bike) "Has a problem with the kick starter one way. Has the parts no time to fix. 300 bucks...." Well happy birth day to me! I offer him 200 cash and he accepts with the warning that "it goes really slow are you sure you want it?". hahahaha of course i reply! I pull up with the gasgas in tow and he comes out all excited to see a trials bike. He starts raving about trials bikes and how cool they are... I ask him if he knew that he was about to sell me a trials bike. (thinking in the back of my head that i may have screwed my self over on the price) "Whaaaattt? thats not a trials bike!" He replied.... Sure enough tl125 k2 1975. Push it 6 feet pop the clutch in 3rd and it purrs like a kitten. I have it here at work and started removing the jug will start to spread the cases this week..... I thought it was a good story. I hope you enjoy. Chao --Biff

Just an add on to this. I am here in detroit at less than 1000 feet. I know sipapu is over 8000 but is the event over this altitude? If i am going it seems like i would need to rejet. gasgas 300 pro. I should be probably posting this in gasgas and probably be calling motomex to get a better idea. But i thought i would ask if any locals were around online. Thanks in advance. --Biff

Here in the states you may want to convince metro racing to make some swm jerseys. http://www.metroracing.com/ They advertise in ahrma and have tons of brands. I have an swm jersey from 81 that my dad got with his bike. I will take a picture of it tonight and post it. Its beat up but may give you an idea of what was avialable. --Biff

If you are thinking of a ty 350 yamaha then carb jetting, Reed block with different stops, and a jug is all that is needed. I ciezed a pinky 250 when i was a kid doing something stupid the day before an event and swapped over all of the above from my 86 ty 350. The fly wheel is also different but i liked the rev of the 250 flywheel. The head fit from the 250 on the 350 head. If your talking about a 350 honda..... I dont know of one in the states. --Biff

According to the Sherco parts book I only see one spring on the left side and it looks like paoli uses one side for compression and one side for rebound. Is this correct? Weet, My dad is 75 years young and rides trials every day.... your never too old for this sport. As you can tell from the rest of the sport there is no weight limit.. A guy your size will never break a Montesa. They are over built and all of the "Big" guys out here in michigan ride them. Size helps with a beginer rider. The bike will feel more manageable and if you need to push the bike you have momentum on your side. Keep your knees out and have fun.
