I love you too man, but I think some of your facts are a bit off. There are lots of 4RT's at the club level here in the US, not many at the Nationals. Dougie switched to Beta then Gas Gas about 4 years ago and not sure but I don't think he's ridden the British Championship in a while.
-
Beta is a sweet bike. Easy to ride, good grip. Beta quality. Weight advantage minimal.
Montesa 4RT same but with EFI. Big advantage. Honda quality. If the few extra pounds bother you then ride without a purse.
Either way you win.
-
Does anyone know how many were built ? Were they all 175 cc ?
-
Congrats on your first event. ITSA new era.
Laying out 50 sections seems like too much work.
Glad you guys learned how to post links. Cheers
-
Nice vids. Thanks for posting. The poor rider at the end hopped his rear wheel right out of the section in a turn that was big enough for a lorry!
-
Well done to all involved. BYE BYE AHRMA!
-
Right. We should be so grateful that AHRMA does not EXCLUDE us. We are welcome to be treated as second class citizens.
Take your seat in the back of the bus. Glad you guys had a good time.

Those things make a TS better. Whats weird is that you want to make the TY worse,...........but like I said its your bike and its a free country.
-
Woody makes some very good points here.
If you don't think equipment makes a difference they why put modern on tires? Ride them old hard nasty ones.
It is your bike, obviously you are free to do what you want with it. If you want to cut up a perfectly good 2004 Montesa and put a snowmobile engine in it, that is your right, just don't call it a twinshock or expect to ride in the same class as a TS. Our ITSA Series has a class for homemade Specials, that is where these "mongrels" belongs. Most of our local clubs over here have very few rules regarding TS.
-
Some of the UK boys have done 'em. Are you gonna ride it in the NATC?
-
A well written set of rules for bike mods is all that is needed for any TwinShock series.
Let guys modify their bikes with common sense : modern tires, shocks, fork internal mods, porting, lightened flywheels, brake linings, handlebars and controls, modifies peg location and geometry etc...
A well prepared Twinshock is much nicer to ride that one that is 100% original and yes it will make a difference in your results. If 2 decent riders are close in ability and one is on a well prepared bike and the other is on a totally stock bike the one on the prepped bike will win.
Maybe there should be a 100% stock class with no mods for those that want it. Would you run old hard tires?
A Mono converted to TS is absurd and should not be allowed. An Air cooled Mono class would be good. Lots of those bikes out there.

We all have our opinions and you can wear whatever helmet you like (even a pink scooter helmet) BUT when it comes to recomending safety equipment I always tell folks to buy the best.
I can remember when there were no trials helmets available and people wore hockey or basesball helmets and thought they were good! So I am glad to support a company that makes a helmet designed and tested for Trials.
For my street bike rides I just bought a new Shoei helmet and paid over $700.00, my safety is well worth.
Shoei TR3 for me.
-
The best quality/best protection Trials helmets are The Shoei TR3 and the Arai Hyper T. In the US you can find them here
-
Are post 78 Twin Shock bikes still banned ?
-
Hey Amos, where can we write and vent our feeling to ahrma about their attitude towards post 79 Twinshocks.
AHRMA = American Hypocrites Refusing (TS) Motorcycle Access
-
AHRMA riders are great people.
AHRMA has lots of great volunteers that keep the series alive and kicking.
Contact your local organizer to see if they will let you ride exhibition/no points. They are more open minded thanAHRMA the rule makers.
AHRMA board of directors have a very strange idea of what the sport of TRIALS is. I am trying very hard to be nice.
-
Some of us are not AHRMA members but are still interested in Ed's comments. Any way they can be posted here?
The Woodstock VA event is not canceled, it's just no longer an AHRMA event.
-
Looks like the new Twin Shock class got off to a good start with 5 entries. The winner/ Dustn Ginder beat over half the support riders on modern bikes.

Tony, what is the address of the Aussie site you speak of? I'd like to see what the great minds down under are thinking. Cheers mate

Interesting responses. I posted the question because here in the USA Twinshock Trials are growing and I wanted to start a discussion about the STYLE of section people want in a TS event. I also wanted input from overseas because of their experience.
The question was about "what STYLE of section". I feel that the style of section should reflect the era of the bikes. This means the bikes will be ridden the way they were intended to be ridden. Some folks agree with me.
The style of section also can ease the pressure on the scoring/rules. Straightforward sections can be a plus, most of all fun/enjoyment. Vintage MX does not use a Supercross style track because it would not be much fun.
Hey MotoVintage! I read your all your posts (the deleted ones too). I intended no offense in using the term "hip hop". It was just a figure of speech. What ever problems you have with hip hop music and the people that listen to it are yours. I ride modern and vintage. Your personal insults are are your problem too. I have some very good friends in Texas Trials and have ridden in Texas many times over the years and I have been treated with nothing but hospitality and sportsmanship. Maybe you are the exception to the rule.
-
Should Twin Shock events have sections in a traditional style or should we join the hip-hop crowd?
-
Nice to see another TS series start up. There are lots of affordable bikes out there waiting to be ridden. How many event in your series? Did Shan ride?
-
All this AHRMA BS bums me out. SO, I look HERE to cheer myself up. These guys sure look like they are having fun.
Trials in the US is soooo small and Vintage trials is even smaller. Lets make it fun while we make it grow.
Dave, how easy do they have to be? ITSA has a Novice class. Sections can always be set up for different skill levels.
NATC sets up sections for National Championship and Senior 65 (age) all in the same setion. If they can do that, I am sure that ITSA can set up sections for the AHRMA boys.

I think the name you are looking for is Eddy Kessler from TX. Mickey Kessler was a National Motocrosser from the 70s.
