  1. Hi guy's, i checked the compression on my 250 txt pro and it was reading 150 psi. I thought that seemed a little low so i replaced the old piston etc with the S3 piston kit. The barrel looked visually really good, no signs of wear at all but the old piston had signs of blow by. So it's all been replaced and i would say run in "it's had about 6hrs worth of running" i also deglazed the barrel with wet and dry (carefully) although it wasn't to bad in the first place.

However now iv'e done a second test to see if the compression would be up and it's still the same. Baffeling.

Held throttle full on etc while kicking her over.

I'm thinking to ask my mate if we can check his 2009 beta evo 250 although that might upset me if his is way higher.

touch wood my bikes running great anyway but i'm interested to see what it should it should be at.

  2. I did not think fitting a new front tyre could be so awkward. Took the old one off no problem, cleaned up the rim and tape etc and proceeded to refit the new tyre. I thought i had it on right, last night and when i went to fit the wheel back on the bike i noticed some of the tyre had not popped on properly and the same at the other side at the opposite position. So i let the air out and put fairy liquid around the rim and pumped her up to 70 psi to get her on all the way around. It say's max 33 psi so i was expecting a big bang lol. Anyway when i let the air back down to 6 psi it slips back off the bead. I've pumped her up again to 70 to get it back on allround and let it down to around 40 again and left it to sit. I washed all traces of soap off now so do you think if i leave it at this pressure for a day or two it will dry up and stay on the rim when i release it down to 6. Or is there something else i need to do.

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

  3. Thats a pest. The excact same thing happened to my mate's 09 beta evo it was just outside it's warranty by a month or two. He ended up buying a new shock.

    Must be a weak point.

If you have no success with souring a replacement i wonder if these guys could drill the adjuster out and replace it. Never dealt with them myself but could be a cheaper option than a new replacement ( if it can be repaired ) hopefully it can

  4. aah, that's interesting. I did a search and came up with people that had cut the mid section open to clean it out, but i'm not sure if that was the older type with the triangular mid section.

I dont plan to go that far with it though, but cleaning it out your way sounds good.

I was pleased to find when the head came off, the barrel was in good order with no visual signs of wear. Just evidence of blow by from the rings worn probably past the service limit.

Thanks for your reply sectionone

  5. Hi guy's, i'm in the process of putting a new S3 piston kit in my 03 txt pro.

While i'm at it, i'm decoking the front pipe etc. The mid section looks quite sooty inside.

Also the paint is a cracked and flaking slightly so i intend to sandblast the outside of it and respray with high temp paint.

Is the mid section hollow or does it have a permanent packing in it too. Seeing as i'm going to paint it can i heat it with oxy acetylene to burn the soot out.

    Cheers.

  6. that is strange, mine is a txt pro 2003 if that makes any difference. I assume yours is too, i think they changed the clutch case's on the 03's onwards perhaps you have the older type on yours.

But i'm not sure now, 400 is what i use and like i said it's 3/4 up the sight glass.

Sorry i couldn't of been more help, perhaps someone else on here will have a better idea

  7. Surley, one of those new parts will cure her  . Not much consilation but atleast this is happening while your getting over your hernia and not spoiling riding time.

you'll both be good as new soon :)

  8. Hi Gordie,

thats a relief your stator's in good order :DB) , Here's hoping you'll get her sorted shortly. I've been plagued with little snags lately, getting there though, New water pump parts on the way for me and hopefully get out on her at the weekend.

    Best of luck mate :D

    Keep us posted

  9. Hi Gordeee, yes my kokusan is a bit more simple to work on. It's a job trying to get the ohms readings that your looking for especially if you doubt what your doing to get them.

Steve is probably your best bet to point you in the right direction.

When i called WCW they told me to test my stator with AC volts and he said i should be getting at least 10v when kicking over, when i kicked mine over i was getting between 30-37v after the rewind i thought that was maybe excessive but when i referred to a motocross and off road handbook written by Eric Gorr state's

Quote from the book "The output of the generating coil can be tested with a multi-meter set to AC volts. At the average Kick-starting speed (spark plug removed ), the AC voltage output of the generating coil should be at least 45 volts." so if yours has been showing only 7-9 that may be your problem there.

In any case i'm sure Steve will point you in the right direction. Good luck

    Steve

  10. Hi Gordeee, electrical problems are the worst, your ignition is different to my Kokusan but i'll try to help where i can.

Hopefully yours is more straight forward to fix than mine was, i had a look on trialspartsusa http://www.trialspartsusa.com/diagrams/DUCATIdigital2005.JPG to see if i could find any thing that said what the ohms should be, but there's none there :D

on the diagram it only shows one yellow coming from the stator, so i assume thats your live feed and the stator is earthed through the engine case so i would assume if you set your multimeter to ac volts ~: and connect one to the yellow and the other to earth and kick her over you should get between 10-45 volts which would indicate that was operating properly.

if you set the multimeter to ohms and check the Green and White coming from the pick up that would give you an indication of what it's doing.

Fortunately i was told that stator's and, or pick ups very rarely fail on the gas gas . I was just unlucky.

I wish you had Kokusan ignition then i could help alot more as unfortunately the ducati appears to be a different set up.

I won't go on about West country windings as there not much use in my book, But Steve Hardaker from Bradford ignitions in Spain http://www.uk-motoplat.com/ is an absolute genious when it comes to stators etc.

If your getting no where with your cdi then defiantly give him a call, could save alot of head scratching, and he's a really nice guy to talk to as well.

I really hope you get it sorted soon though

  11. not had the bike long,,,and with other bikes i have had in the past i have never had the case bolts vibrate loose before,,,going to order a new seal,,,and check the bolts after every ride,,,,,the way its going i think it is going to be a very short relasionship with the gasgas,,,,fingers crossed for my first trial on it this weekend...tom

Nah don't say that, just think of it as your ironing out the creases. you'll feel alot happier after you've had a little while :D

Shercoman2k8, this is getting freaky lol

  12. That is SO freaky, the excact same thing happened to mine. I wasn't going to post anything about it after all the hassle iv'e had with my bike latley. Iv'e had to order a new gasket though for mine, infact i ordered two from different suppliers just incase one was late delivering before the weekend, i'm going to adjust my gear lever spring and replace the seals in the top hat while the clutch cover was off. i did a quick check on the clutch finger height and seemed to only get 14mm so chances are it will need replacing in the near future. Unless it goes shortly it can wait till the winter months. I was so happy to have my bike running again i took it out for an hour and came back only to find gearbox oil everywhere. Sod's law eh!

you would probably be worthwhile ordering a new one for yours just incase.

  13. Thanks tt5th,

yes i was really starting to pull my hair out, if they had done the job right the first time i would not have had to go through this. I was close to throwing the towel in, as if the suspected parts were, in theory "good" then i was totally stumped.

The bike starts so sharp now, you can feel it fire when the kick start is only half way down. So although they rewound it back wards i suppose they at least did a good job.

As far as i'm concerned if the stator was correct the first time then the pick up module would have shown voltage and wouldn't unnecessarily need changing saving me time and money.

I'm going to call them on Tuesday and see what they say about it.

Really chuffed she's going again :D

Bradford Ignitions is the way forward, if only i went there in the first place :D

  14. IT'S ALIVE,

right i spoke to Steve at Bradford ignitions (motoplat) and i can't stress how much of a help he was. After weeks of posting parts back and forth to WCW and getting nothing more than a lighter wallet, a 5 minute phone call to Steve had my bike running.

Steve from BRADFORD IGNITIONS told me to swap the two blue wire's comming from the stator at the multi plug around as he suspected it had been rewound backwards and the polarity had been reversed and hey presto instant spark, bike fired first kick and ran great.

MASSIVE praise to Steve and i'm going to call WCW on tuesday and see what they say.

    This is not over yet.

    I'll keep you posted

  15. Well, i got my Stator and new pick up attached today, bolted it all up with great enthusiasm. nothing missed everything connected. Kicked over with plug grounded on the head and .......................................................NOTHING.

This is really starting to hack me off now, did the volt and ohms tests again i was advised to do by WCW the first time and still getting the same readings as before. Even the new pick up is still not showing a current, although a mechanic friend said a standard multimeter wouldn't be able to pick up the ...pickup voltage and i would need a peak voltage tester to check it.

So my only real possible check to do now is to ask my friend with his gas gas if i can swap stator and pick up again and see if that works again. Apart from that i'm just hitting a brick wall.

Does anyone know of any trials breakers that i might be able to get a second hand stator etc as a new one only come as part of a package which consists of stator and fly wheel coming in at over

  16. Hi,

i'm not sure if the raga comes with a different carb from a Dell orto, but if it is, it's most likely dirt in the carb perhaps causing the floats to stick or the plunger that the floats rise up to when the carb is full of petrol to not close properly, in any case it's probably just needing a clean.

And yes i would think it should have a pipe attached running away from the carb to under the bike to drain fuel away from the engine in case it were to fall on it's side.

Get a can of carb cleaner and if you have access to compressed air even better.

If you have not stripped one before, once you get it open by releasing the single bolt underneath it's not that complex inside, nothing will fall out apart from the floats and just make sure you noticed what way they went in.

I hope thats of some help to you :o
