    Air Filter

Hi guy's, I am doing some usuall maintenance to my gas gas and i noticed the filter was getting a touch dirty again, the last time i cleaned it and re oiled i used proper air filter cleaner. But i used it all last time, i was wondering if some sort of engine degreaser would do to clean the old oil and muck out of the filter then let dry and re oil. I was thinking of using Gunk or jizer as these are readily available in Shetland. genuine air filter cleaner would need to be ordered and i was hoping to do it tomorrow. Would any of these degreasers damage the filter in any way or are there any household products that would do the same job?. Cheers Steve
  3. Hi, Try checking the stator pick up for the fly wheel make sure it is clean by rubbing it with fine emery paper and the gap is correct between the pickup and the flywheel. Mine was really dusty when i took the cover off i blasted it with an airline and that helped too. There's probably more to check but i'm not too sure, i'm sure someone else will be along with more answers. Apart from the usual suspects like a broken wire there can't be too much to go wrong. Good luck Steve
  4. Make sure the air filter is clean, check the float height is correct, i spoke to gas gas UK and they told me to set mine to 17mm ( i think,i can't remember) 125 may be different "best check with gas gas", check the stator pick up on the fly wheel is clean and set at the correct gap, they condensate in there and can corrode giving a weak spark. Thats the things i was advised to do because mine was the same, refusing to start, but now touch wood she starts great hot and cold. Good luck Steve
  5. Hi there, I am a long long way off from being good enough at trials to give advice, but a small tip from me is, try using a scaffold board on it's edge. That way you can get a bit of decent height but if you don't clear it the board falls over. The only pest is i keep having to reset the board but once you've sussed it you can add pieces of wood to add extra height. Steve
  6. I am loving that , i want one. The red head is a nice touch, the gold frame...nice, the black plastics oh yeah, now where's my wallet..oh yeah..maybe next time
  7. Hi Jon, Thanks for that, i'll try that tomorrow. Would you say that the oil should be halfway up the sight glass while upright or nearer the top of the sight glass. Your advice is always very much appreciated. Steve
  8. Hi guy's, I'm doing an oil change on the bike and replacing whatever was in her to AFT, my question is, how much ml of oil do i put back in, some site's say 350cc and others say 500cc and so on. It gets quite confusing, there was only about 350 ish ml that came out, well i'm assuming that because the container i had placed underneath her was in the wrong place and some of the oil is now a nice big stain on the my garage floor. I might leave her to drip into the container overnight. Oh and one gas gas site said 500cc for the 2004 txt pro, are they different somehow? Cheers Steve
  9. Hi trialsnutterman, thanks for that. I'll defiantly keep up the practice and i think i'll have a play around with the shock on the preload side like you have suggested. The pro's make it look so easy when they are hopping on top of obstacles trying to get the right position for there next jump etc, they seem to put in so little input but the bike hops around no problem. I would love to be able to do a fraction of that. practice practice practice Cheers, Steve
  10. Hi guy's I am trying to make the rear shock as springy as possible to help with bouncing the rear end around. I've been practasing in the garage and i can get her to bounce to the left not too bad but i cant get the hang of bouncing to the right for some reason. I know it probably all comes down to practise and technique but i set the screw on the shock with the + and - to the softest and that helped alot but i was wondering if there is any other way of making a stock gas gas sachs shock springyer ie would screwing the two rings on the body of the shock up and down affect the bounciness of the shock. Cheers Steve

    Won't Start?

Hi txt_280, just to share a tip with you that people on here told me that worked for me is to lean the bike to the left (as in basicly lay the bike on the ground on it's left ) just leaning a little to the left did nothing with mine but if you set her over until the fuel starts to run out of the over flow pipe then lift her up and try starting her that way you know the carb bowel is full. Worth a try bud Cheers Steve
  13. Thanks Lowbrow, i'll keep that in mind while i fill the top hat. if the gaskets here tommorow that will be tommorow nights job cheers Steve
  14. Hi Stork, thanks for that just what i was looking for, very much appreciated Cheers Steve
  15. Hi guy's, I am renewing the clutch slave seals while i have the engine casing off to do the kick start mechanism. I have watched the gas gas videos on you tube about bleeding the brakes, etc using a syringe at the bleed nipple. My question is do you have to hold the lever in to let the fluid pass into the master cylinder or do you slowly pump it or just leave it alone and watch for the fluid to rise up into the master cylinder. I'm going to be replacing the leaking seals in the clutch master cylinder when they arrive too. Thanks Steve
  16. thanks for that Jon thats a great tip about the dot 5 i'll definatly do that. I'm being very carefull about all washers etc and have been studying the gas gas videos on you tube, there very easy to follow, perfect for me lol. Thanks again Steve
  17. Hi guys, yes your all right, i popped the cover off to find the spring wasn't located properly and was bent by whoever was in there last. Its slightly chewed the kickstart gear but the dealer i bought her from is kindley posting me replacement parts. As for the dragging clutch i mentioned in another post they are also sending me a master cylinder repair seal kit as i seen oil leaking out at the resivoir. so hopefully that will sort that, i have ordered new clutch slave seals and will replace them at the same time. Thanks guys Steve
  18. Hi guys, thanks for the advice and thankyou postmanpat for the offer to pm you i may have to do this. I hope there's nothing wrong as i've just bought her about 2 weeks ago and with the snow i've not really had a chance to try her out. Seeing as i'm in shetland i bought her from a dealer over the phone after i saw advertised on the internet and got a courier to deliver to shetland. They assured me she needed nothing apart from a new rear mudgaurd which they supplied they told me all bikes left the shop ready to trial as they fixed any problems before they were sold. Cheers Steve
  19. Hi guy's, As the title says i've noticed if you lean the bike to the left slightly more than upright the kick starter just goes down over and over again but if you hold her upright or lean her to the right the kick starter engages fine. Is this normal? I leaned her over whilst standing next to her tonight to the left and turned the kick start manually and it did catch a little. Thanks Steve
  20. Thanks for that Jon that clears that up. Cheers, Steve
  21. Thanks for that Jon i'm going to look into the larger start jet. I was wondering " i may be wrong" i think i read somewhere that people have a hot start mod done to there bikes. What does that entail. sorry for all the questions Steve
  22. Hi Jon, So the Dellorto on my bike is a much improved carb compared to the older PHBH and i would probably be wasting my money if i were to replace it with a kehin, have i got that right? if so thankyou very much for sharing that advice with me as this will save me a couple of hundred pounds on a carb that i don't really need. Speaking of drilling out starter jets, is it possible to buy the larger bore jet and just swap? Thanks again for your prompt replys, Cheers Steve
  23. Hi Peter, thanks for the tip i'll definetly try leaning the bike over next time for bit before i try starting her. What i worry about is my previous bike the fantic had the dellorto carb which was worn out so i replaced it with an oko from classictrials which made a huge difference as i was told the dellorto's wore out quite quickly, so i was thinking about some time later in the future perhaps getting a kehin carb to replace the dellorto. Thanks for that Peter. Cheers Steve
