Putting Freixa on a Scorpa and expecting him to podium would be the same as putting Dougie or Fugi on a Scorpa and expecting them to podium...
It would never happen.
He has to much talent and must be commended on have the balls to switch camp and get back in and mix it at the top end.
Even if Beta are only giving him a cut lunch and a carton
Freixa has done the right thing.

Alan on the subject of petrol prices and living in a big country Australia, driving 450 to 600 miles to our four State title events,we are now on $6 a gallon or $1.30 / litre.
Makes us envious of the trials in UK.
-
Just where do you live Billy....
Sounds like my missus.
-
Hey Bille,
Was Susie a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke.
-
Settle down Andy.....
You ain't got Kylie
She's mine!!!

I think you will find that pretty much all the engines have this idle knock, some more than others.
Have had each Sy250 since 2001 an have had this characteristic as part of the deal.
Have used Motul 800 at 100;1 in the first three bikes 2001,2002 and 2003 with no problems.
The most annoying thing I found in using this oil was it quickly gummed up the exhaust, which in turn changed the crisp sweet exhaust note to a more doughy restricted blat. This was due to the low revs mostly used by the machine in the way I practiced.Just does not get hot enough to burn the oil
The seals of the middle resonator unit where the header pipe and rear muffler enter and exit were seeping unburnt oil residue continually.
To put your finger into the rear exhaust hole would give a black wet oily result.
The other thing I would mention is I would replace the spark plug every three months and always it came out as black and sooty as ....
Over the last two years, again with new bikes at the star of each season, I still premix premium (98) unleaded at 100;1 but am now using Motorex 2T Speedmix-Low smoke.
The difference is dramatic.
All the above problems have been eliminated and the motor stays crisp and sweet.
To now stick your finger in the exhaust there is only a light black soot ,no wet oil residue.
It may be worth looking at the condition of the oil build up in your exhaust system to see how it looks.
The whirring noise when you release the clutch is the gears.
My 2004 bike sounded like a Formula I.
The bikes that really sang a song with gears were the Aprillas in the early 90's.
I agree with DLS dont go changing needle heights till you have tried these suggestions.
The other thing that does come to mind is has the needle height setting been altered from its standard setting by the previous owner?

The difference between the "Racing" SY and the non touched up SY is very noticable from tick over right through to peak revs.
The best way for you to get a feel of the extra torque is to advance your timing progresively as Brad has mentioned,or borrow a Racing to feel the difference.
The most annoying thing I found with the Racing was its ease of stalling the motor at tick over. This can be kepted at bay by winding up your idle .
Obviously your skill level and ability to put down traction with the torque you gain will sway you to either keep advancing your timing or set about fitting a lightened flywheel if you feel you need or can handle more poke,or just remain with the settings you are more comfortable with.
The type of setions you ride (wet and slippy or plenty of traction)will also come into play.
After riding my 2004 Racing with timing retarded to original mark,(which made the motor quite docile, even with the lightend flywheel) and I had flywheel weights made up to experiment with my 2005 SY Racing.
The weight used was 260 grams which is around half of the total weight the Scorpa factory remove for the Racing SY flywheel.
I left the timing at the advanced position of the Racing and found this very comfortable over all.
Must mention that the Racing feels lighter and more nimble to the English version.

Andy,
Could you please post a link for this seasons riders in
WTC in their respective classes.
Ta.

Hi Korky,
The engine in your 98 Scorpa (Easy) is not the same as SY Scorpas produced from 2001,these are powered by a Yamaha engine.
-
Thanks for all your replies....
plenty of good reports certainly gives me a lift along.
Totalshell I will ave to get your surgeons name ...the one who gave you the heart replacement..cause if I have to sell the bike it will break the one I got.
Bikespace when I pick my game up a bit probably need a minder so dont go off to Canada till I get a chance to do a few rounds over your way.
Cheers

Had some pretty grim news.
Hoping for some positive feedback...
Not only do they want to cut me up,they also insist on selling the trials bike and replacing it with a pushie.....may as well just f#@$%*g die.
Is there anyone out there who is still riding or knows of anyone regularly still competing in trials after hip replacement.
-
BJ,Let us know what the lad thinks after putting in a few hours on the newy.
-
You need a water pump protector,
You need to get fitter as you will not be stopping to fix things.
Get out of here Dabster or you will need a coit protector.
-
Well come on Dabster dont keep us guessing
Is it Dougie or Joa.
-
Have they presented the bike with the colour and graphics it is to be released in.Has anyone a pic if it is decaled up.
-
jj,
Dreaming won't help...
Buttons won't help...
Practice practice practice,
Thats how to achieve, and it won't happen overnight.
-
I think its time to get a new one bf.
Never had to replace a set yet,so can't help with any tips.
-
PRW,
It was removed with a bit of bother, best to ring Nigel Birkett for instructions if you have trouble.
Once removed, I had a piece of 2mm steel shaped to the size and angle of the original actuating arm, pulling up short of the end threaded section where the adjusting screw is positioned.
A hole was then drilled so that the new reinforcing sat piggy back on top of the original.
This was done so the new weld would attach to the original weld,(for added strength)then also weld together around the outer seam.
Be very careful you have the exact angle for clearance between casing and muffler before doing the final weld.
Should never let go again if done correctly.
-
On my 2004 last year I lost the feel of the clutch over a couple of small afternoon rides.
It turn out the weld that holds the actuating arm on the shaft that goes into the engine had cracked. When the clutch was engaged it only gave partial travel, the arm flexed down,(scraping the case) which gave an abrupt engaged or disengaged action..
Is easily fixed ,but be careful to have it correctly positioned when you take it to be welded.
-
A ride off between the two riders on section 1 or section 7 would have been a much more exciting finish to their days ride, with every one watching to apply a bit of pressure.
-
-
Your right about that Nigel,
Who in their right mind would settle for less than the real thing.
Hang on....I thought Sherco was a replica Gas Gas.
-
The previous comments say it all...It really is the complete package for the ability of most riders.
Had Yamaha bikes since 1976 and changed to new gassers from 96 to 2000.
When the SY 250 was released in 2001 the first ride reinforced why I love the smooth, predictable non aggressive characteristics of the Yamaha motor which combined with the superb Scorpa engineering make it hard to fault.
Have now had the five SY 250's and have both the 2006 250's on order.
The worst thing about owning one is there is not to much happening in the Trials Central SCORPA section because every one is out riding them...not fixing something else that has grounded them.
-
Australian Importer has indicated SY 250F will arrival in December with the 2006 SY 250.
-
Any lightening of the flywheel will reduce crankshaft momentum at low rpm which in turn will enhance your chances of an easy stall.
